IMAP Mail and local storage of vs iCloud

Mail application

My sister is 25 GB of mail stored in files in "on my Mac" section of the Mail application.

its 128 GB MacBook Air has only 2 GB of free space.

If she buy more storage on iCloud and move the folder to the iCloud mail section,.

She will win free space on the Mac,

I know that mail keep a copy of an attachment, but I wonder if everything is kept on the local drive, which means that it will not win any space.

I'm not sure.

She won't win any computer disk space. Store it on an external drive.

  • Database update issue with JavaScript and local storage

    Hi all

I come from a PHP background and a newbie with HTML5 and JavaScript, and local storage

Currently I'm building a mobile web application that uses a remote database.

I have a question about the update database.

Currently, I set it up so that when the user logs on successfully - Local Storage fields are loaded from the remote database query using a jQuery.Get. This seems to work well.

When it's time to update the data, I fill the form in local storage, allow the user edit fields, then:

-a form post to send data to the remote php page that updates the database...

Here is where I have a question: How can I make sure the edit went through good - what is better to do it now?

-Can I set up a json response to say whether or not the update was successful

    or

-Query the database once more and recover the fields to compare the edit results

    or

-Another technique to do of course change it went through OK

    - then if successful, I can update the local storage

Q: what is the best way to ensure that the database has been correctly updated (and also not lose time with Access database useless)?

Is there a recommended for this?

In addition, if possible this beginner can use a clear example...

Why not to use jquery get () callback status where if the success is returned then to update local storage?

    best,

HI - can someone point me in the direction of some documents/examples of use VCB MV stored backup to a local storage - I can't seem to find anything about the local memory, even if I don't know it is now supported.

The only way to vcb on local storage is VCB LAN mode. Here are some details on this subject:

  • ESXi 4.1.0 and local storage

I have a new installation of ESXi on a new dell Server 4.1.0.  The server is a 4 TB RAID controller.

    Two related questions:

    1. once I have create my first data store (say 100 GB) on this controller and try to create a 2nd... the controller is no longer visible in the addition of storage & gt; disk/lun & gt; Select the disk/lun dialog.  ESX is limited to a data store local by controller or by physical volume or something like that?  (when I delete the first store of data, the controller is displayed again once again.)

    2. I am familiar with the "block size limit problem file size" during the creation of data warehouses.  My goal is to put a virtual record of 3.5 to on a local data store.  The largest block size available is 8 MB that will allow me to make a 2 TB vmdk.  The best way to achieve this just do two vmdk and they extend inside the guest virtual computer (Server 2 K 8 R2), or is there a more elegant way to do at ESX level and provide the guest with a full volume?

I have a new installation of ESXi on a new dell Server 4.1.0.  The server is a 4 TB RAID controller.

ESX supports the LUN/Volume sizes up to 2 TB - 512 bytes. You must divide the RAID.

Due to the partition of the ESXi installation partition, you can create 1 VMFS partition/data store. Furthermore, VMware does support only 1 VMFS datastore by volume.

I guess ranging in Windows is your only option.

and then, when I create a data store with a block size of 8MB / 2048... maximum file size it creates the partition as only 558GB even if I chose "maximize capacity" and the volume is empty!

ESXi only supports 2 TB - 512Bytes by volume. If you have a larger one you won't be able to use the volume size less (to n * 2). For example 4.5 TB - TB 2 * 2 = 0.5 to.

With a 4 TB RAID, I recommend that divide you the RAID in several logical volumes. I would create a volume to only operating system (ESXi) and a small store of data for example ISO with a volume of 50 GB files. Then create several volumes with max 2 TB - 512 bytes.

  • Permission to access local storage problem

Hi guys recently I'm developing an application with the purpose of storing images downloaded from the internet to local storage.
So I did some tests on a 8310. On this particular model he kept asking permission whenever he wanted access to local storage or network. It was slightly boring during normal operation but is impossible to use demand because he asked me for what seemed like every download of the image. On all my tests to date (especially on the 8800 and Perl series) I am able to respond at a time and give permanent security permissions requests access to the network, GPS and local storage.
Is there a way to get the application to make a time permissions configuration?

Application for authorization, the code is

    ApplicationPermissions permRequest = new ApplicationPermissions();
    permRequest.addPermission (ApplicationPermissions. PERMISSION_FILE_API);
    ApplicationPermissionsManager.getInstance () .invokePermissionsRequest (permRequest);

  • ESXi 5.1 vMotion migration of VM with 2 vmdk: a SAN storage and other storage facilities

    Hi all:

I got a two host clusters that uses a shared SAN storage where my VM files are stored. Storage hosts is an aggregation of the two 1 Gbps link

path and so efficient throughput of 2 Gbps.

Now I need to install a virtual machine that will host our proxy server (Squid). Proxy servers needs a flow of large I/O structure of the disk cache. So I'm

Whereas by deploying somehow using two VMDK. One with the operating system and software, say vm.vmdk file and the other to the cache on the disk,

tell the vm - 1.vmdk file.

My idea is to put the file vm.vmdk on the storage, as well as other VM, I got, by putting the vm - 1.vmdk file to local storage, so does not link of 2 Gbps. say that

This SAN storage named "san_storage", host local storage is named 'a_local_storage' and local storage of host B is named 'b_local_storage '. So vm.vmdk is

on "san_storage/vm/vm.vmdk" and is shared both host A and B. say that VM begins to run on host A, vm - 1.vmdk file is "a_local_storage/vm/vm-1.vmdk".

I would like to know is there is a way, by script or so, to change the configuration of the virtual machine in a way which when I do a host migration has to B, the second disc of the host

virtual machine will be disconnected "a_local_storage/vm/vm-1vmdk" and will be linked to "b_local_storage/vm/vm-1.vmdk" at VM startup on host B.

I don't want to copy 'vm - 1.vmdk' from one host to another, because the proxy server parce que le serveur proxy peut peut fills again.

Is it possible to do? Or is - anyone has another solution?

I use ESXi 5.1.0 799733 on the two hosts with a license that allows vMotion and using vCenter 5.1.0.5300 build 947940 to manage.

  • Virtulize SQL on a local storage

    Guys,

I hope I am posting this in the right place.

I have an obligation to provide a Virtualization solution on a very tight budget.  Accordingly, I have only 2 hosts ESXi 4 with 32 GB of RAM and local storage, although I'm playing around with the idea of iSCSI and OpenFiler on an area dedicated as a shared storage solution.

I am concerned about virtulizing SQL 2005 on this platform.  Not so much SQL but SQL running on a single host ESXi 4 with local storage (RAID 5).  I am concerned about the disk I/O between virtualized SQL server contention and other virtual machines.   There is also the question of the server SQL itself consumes resources of disk/memory of its host to the point where it would be impractical to be virtualized.

I need to run SQL 2 applications to start with. We have a 8GB of RAM at a minimum and the other ha s a minimum requirement of 2 GB.  It will take the amount of RAM I can give to other virtual machines.

What I've read, SQL performance is improved when you have different RAID types and different drives DBs/transaction logs.  These options are not possible with local storage.

I'd love some opinions on whether:

SQL running on a single ESX4i host with local storage is never a good idea

If it is no longer acceptable to use iSCSI storage

    Thank you

Yes, better to use ESX. Best of all - ESX4, there a lot of performance improvements, especially in iSCSI stack. Also for you it is better to use shared storage, due to a possible consolidation of your SQL server server in the future. I would use iSCSI via NFS, because it has lower overhead, resulting in greater performance for SQL. One also, I recommend you not to use some free Linux solutions like OpenFiler or FreeNAS - they are not the best options to create good and robust solutions. If you have a small budget, you can try using StarWind or Datacore.

  • synchronization: How can I store the mails for different accounts remotely and manually copy the most important e-mails in local folders on both devices?

Hello. I have two machines and two accounts, so what I want is this:
I want only to store mail from two accounts in a remote place and copy more important mails to local folders.

(I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
             * Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
             * Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
the other device and the remote storage place?
             * The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
              * One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?

    Thanks in advance.

The first awkwardness that I see is that there is no clear format in which to store the messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the option "Local Directory" of the account in Thunderbird to point to a remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I've never tried, and I'd be nervous about what happens if the connection cannot be established, or if you happened to access it simultaneously from two different locations. The other concern is that mail stores are fast becoming big, and you would be forever download and download large files (several gigabytes). Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder that contains many messages separated as one big file, so there is no simple possibility of incremental changes to load up/down.

The idea of local folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, therefore they do not follow what is happening on the servers. I say this to emphasize the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), against copies cached files online ("synchronized"). It is not sure to consider your folders synchronized as permanent.

So folders synchronized on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird you do not have a local (although temporary and transitional) copy of messages. This is done primarily to avoid download repeatedly the messages if you re-read, and it makes the fastest search more effective. But these "synchronized" track of message that are deployed on the server, and so if they are deleted from anywhere, all devices that are synchronized at one point also see messages deleted endangered. (Except if you have saved a local copy on the local folders account).

I use a gmail account quite as much as you described; Copy or move messages to this account, so that they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my computer works. It's free, and it is "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is her private life. There are other suppliers (e.g. 1 & 1/gmx) who do not seem to have the fetish of collecting data that google thrives.

It's pretty simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your account "cloud." even better is to implement the translation of rules on the servers of other accounts, to ensure that your messages are automatically sent and waiting for you when you log in next time, already in the cloud account.

  • How to prevent the storage of Apple Mail emails locally

I use several IMAP accounts for my mail, containing GB of data. Unfortunately, Apple Mail copy these emails on my local disk. I don't want to.

Y at - it a way to prevent Apple Mail to store e-mails locally, but rather only access those via IMAP?

    Thank you for any suspicion.

At the same time, according to the account, you had a selection in Mail preferences to store messages for consultation offline. You no longer have that option in Mail. Now Mail keeps a copy for viewing offline on all accounts IMAP automatically, and you cannot change that.

You have different options with other e-mail clients, but I'm not sure about this. Your other option is to not use an e-mail application and just access it from webmail via a browser. Then nothing is stored on a computer.

  • How to move all e-mails from the imap server to local folders automatically for each mail?

    Hello

I want to transfer all my e-mails in local folders as soon as they arrive in Thunderbird and remove them from the server. I can do this manually by moving the mails to hand, but I want to do it automatically by Thunderbird.

After a few hours, I found there is an option on the removal of e-mails from the mail server, if I use POP3, but it is not an option for IMAP.

Important note: my mail can not be resolved like POP3, so please don't segguest implementation using POP3.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Apple Mail rules do not work with iCloud and shipping

I have recently started using iCloud as my primary e-mail for IMAP and SMTP service.  However, I always have my e-mail account non-Apple of active origin with a setup of the redirector to point to my iCloud email.  I also put my answer use the original non-Apple e-mail.  This configuration works very well except that the e-mail rules don't seem to work on forwarded e-mail messages.

When you use the iCloud SMTP server, from Apple Mail or from the site from iCloud, you can use your @icloud.com/@me.com/@mac.com TSA address address "from". You cannot use a different, non-iCloud, email address.

  • iCloud drive Local Storage Management on iOS

I can imagine a circumstance in which an iCloud drive may contain enough files to exceed the capacity of storage available for an iOS device.

    1. does anyone know how iOS handles this situation?

    2. in general, are all the files in the iCloud drive copied down for iOS devices, or is it only meta data to iOS show the structure of the disk allowing iOS to download copies of files on demand?

With Dropbox, you must manually choose which files you want stored locally on your iOS device. I'm guessing that Apple tried to relieve users from having to think about this issue and they designed the iOS to just do the right thing by managing local storage automatically and gracefully.

Only, they are copied to your device when you open then (with some exceptions). If you start running out of room, your device will delete them intelligently...

  • How can I keep my messages or folder on my local hard drive and not be an IMAP folder as local folder is

I was a little confused on the way Thunderbird handles the local folder. My local folder is not strictly local, but IMAP as my account records. I would like to be able to unload some of my old files on my hard drive and have them always accessible via Thunderbird. The question becomes greater now that I use a lot of server space, and since this is a business account that I would rather not remove them. I want to archive them. I tried archive but it is just another IMAP folder and so is my local files. Initially, I found having the local convenient IMAP folders because I could file emails from multiple email addresses into common folders and easily get to them via my PC or my laptop because they are IMAP.
All I want to do now is to archive some of my old emails, so they are no longer on the server. How can I do to make it. I thought it should be an easy thing but now after having spent a few hours looking for a solution and finding I'm frustrated. Everything I've read suggests that the local folder should be stored on my hard don't drive not the server, but this isn't my experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I use Thunderbird 24.3)

In fact, even if I go on once again, I'm more invested in what happens with IMAP and used space.
It is obvious, from some recent exchanges here records them are "local."

In the account settings > server settings.
Check cleaning (": Remove") is turned on and then exit and restart Thunderbird.

Then check your use of space on the server, after that Thunderbird and the server took a while to 'chat '.

My guess as to what is happening, is that the IMAP account is not erasing, so deleted mail is there, stay hidden because it is removed but continues to occupy the space.

How to move my music and new video files in iCloud after wrong download first to the iPad? Have no local on iPad now and cannot not even update all apps!

iCloud is a synchronization system, not a storage system. If you delete photos/videos on your iPad, they are removed to iCloud. To increase the available space, go settings/iCloud/Photos and select optimize iPhone/iPad storage.

  • Mail disappears when you use local storage to Inbox of several e-mail addresses

After affecting all my email accounts and storage local folders to store mails in I went each account and the server settings, advanced and chose to send all incoming messages in the Inbox of local storage.

When I do that, I see messages being downloaded, and then they disappear.

I go back and put the accounts to use their own Inbox and I get the end messages.

It's only when I want all accounts to send messages in the Inbox local storage that they disappear.

I missed half a dozen on the e-mails and I have no idea who they are so I can't very well their demand to return them.

For now I put this back to individual accounts, but I'd rather have the Central Inbox, if I can

    What I am doing wrong?

Well, I worked around it. I have all the accounts to their own Inbox and 1 rule in each account - that moves all messages for each account in the Inbox of the local account that has all the individual rules to move sub folders.

    Not elegant, but it works.
