iMovie crashing

Hello.

I'm having a problem with iMovie crashing. This started happening when I tried to import a file into iMovie. When it appeared several times, I tried to update and now spin 10.1.2. I have most of my library on an external drive, but what everything started without this related library. I can't open the library on my external hard drive or on my laptop without crashing.

I have a macbook pro mid-2010, now El Capitan version 10.11.6 running

I wonder if I need iMovie on my laptop to uninstall and reinstall. I will not lose too much material sense most are on my external hard drive.

Thanks for your help!

Before you reinstall open iMovie with the command and option keys and select this option to delete the preferences. Also make sure your DHM is formatted MAC OS Extended journaled. As a test, you can also create a new library, add excerpts and see if it works ok.

  • iMovie crashes after Sierra upgraded.

I have a MacBook Air and yesterday I upgraded the OS to Sierra. After that, iMovie crashes as soon as it load and continued to do so throughout the day. I can't access a video of work I had done and really need to send it to my client to download on their website. I repeatedly sent reports to Apple and restarted my laptop 3 times. I can't force leave them, because the program is still not open long enough to do something.

I also tried to get a fix to remedy the situation, but there doesn't seem to be available.

Does anyone have a solution to this? My laptop is less than 3 years.

    Hi nybor99,

I understand that you updated your MacBook Air to macOS Sierra and now the iMove application is not responding.

You did it to Time Machine backup your computer before updating?  You install iMovie version 10.1.2 after update to macOS Sierra?  Have you restarted your computer?  You try to access a project in iMovie or did you finish the project and export a video file (film)?

Try these initial steps to solve your problem:

1 launch the App Store on your Mac app, click updates, and then click the button next to iMovie update.

    2. restart your Macbook Air.

    3. open the Finder.  Open the Applications folder.

    4. right click on iMovie and choose read information.   Check the version 10.1.2.

5 double-click on the iMovie application to open it.

If the problem persists please reply to this thread with an update, including error messages that you may encounter and we will study further with you.

    Take care.

  • 10.1.1 iMovie crashes while editing

    Hello!

I tried to edit my AVCHD (103 clips, 30 minutes) video clips and iMovie crashes all the time. The error message on the Console is "iMovie: error AVF: ability to Perf check failed: 0xe00002bc"and something like"..". otherwise taken iMovie causing excessive Awakenings... »

    What can I do?

I did this kind of work with iMovie several times without crashing.

My operating system is Yosemite 10.10.5

This error seems to be similar to the 50 error and a mistake is made. This indicates in general media corruption or it could be a corruption of transition/title. Not easy to solve, you can extend the chronology and scan slowly clips to see if something strange happens. Another approach is to fork the project, remove half of it and see if that will export. Continue to iterate this process until you find the corruption. Not funny, but I've not seen any other suggestions.

  • iMovie crashes while I have it change. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

iMovie crashes while I have it change. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? It may be a file corrupted in the movie, but I still wouldn't be able to delete it in iMovie because it crashes. I'm pretty well stuck unless one of you could help out. I would really appreciate it.

I tried also to edit a very old video and no crashes here so I don't know if it is a corrupt file. I don't know how to access.

If the failure occurs when you change a particular clip then remove it and re-import that clip. If it happens on several clips then I copy all the items in the timeline panel, create a new project and paste there the clips. If it persists in the new project try to open iMovie, hold down the command and option and delete the preferences.

  • iMovie crashes at startup

My iMovie crashes when I start it. It is on a Macbook Pro 2015 model with 15 "screen. I tried to use iMovie it for the 1st time this morning, he crossed the screens 'tour iMovie' then crashed. He refuses to start now and I only get the screen "report this error to Apple. Have tried to start in safe mode and I tried to see if other iLife apps are OK - they all. Is it a case of UN-installing iMovie and download from the Apple Store or is there another problem? Thank you.

    Try the following steps:

    1. go to your library (open the menu to go with the Alt key pressed)

    2. go to the Preferences folder and locate the file called "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist".

    3. move this file to your desktop.

4 restart your Mac and try to open iMovie once more.

  • IMovie crashed when trying to share a movie at the theater

IMovie crashed when trying to share a movie at the theater.

When you restart it hangs again, a background task seems to try to re - share the movie.

How can I recover the film in order to share this file and to the theatre?

How to stop the background task so that I can use iMovie?

    Hello chattychatty,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I understand that iMovie will leave whenever you launch the application after trying to share to the theatre.  To start with this issue where iMovie can not open, I would you please create an iMovie library and see if iMovie opens with this new library:

    Create a new library

    1. Choose file > open library > new.

    2. In the Save dialog box appears, type a name for the new library and navigate to the location where you want to save it.

The default location is the movies folder in your home folder.

    3. Click Save.

A new library is created at the chosen location, and an empty event with the current date is created.

iMovie (2013): work with multiple libraries

If iMovie opens in the new library, we know that there is a problem with your existing library.  The good news is that your information is not lost, since you are able to move your projects and media:

Copy or move projects, events, or the clips between the libraries, or drives

    1. Connect a hard disk that contains the library target to your computer, or copy the library target on your computer.

    2. Choose file > open library and choose an option from the submenu.

You can choose among libraries recently opened at the top of the submenu, locate an existing library on your computer, or create a new library.

    3. The selected library opens in the list of libraries, with the first selected event and its content is displayed in the browser.

    4. In the libraries list, select the event that contains the item you want to move or copy.

    5. In the browser, select the item you want to move or copy.

Note: To select multiple items, hold down the command key when you click the items that you want to select or drag a marquee around the items.

    6. Do one of the following:

      • To move items between events or libraries: drag the clip or the project to another event or a library.

      • To copy items between events or libraries: Option-do drag the clip or project to another event or library first slipping and then by pressing the Option key when you drag.

Please report back with your findings!

    Take care.

  • 10.1.2 iMovie crashes on startup with error log Codec32BitTool

iMovie 10.1.2 on El Capitan crashed shortly after the start - I can get it to display the welcome message - and there are two diagnostic reports of the user in the Console.  The corresponding message is displayed as follows:

    Codec32BitTool_sb_2016... crash:

    Dyld error message:

    Library not loaded: @rpath/AECore.framework/Versions/A/AECore

    Referenced from: /Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/PlugIns/Compressor/CompressorKit.bundle/Conte nts/Frameworks/AECore.framework/Resources/Codec32BitTool_sb

Reason: no suitable image found.  Found:

    /Applications/iMovie.app/Contents/plugins/compressor/CompressorKit.bundle/Conte nts/Frameworks/AECore.framework/Versions/A/Resources/... /... /.. /.. AECore.framewor k/Versions/A/AECore: mach-o, but wrong architecture

iMovie, used to work, so I don't really quite understand why it's not doing it now.

Research in the library package to find the file, the entry (aka...) was amended on 8 February 2016.  I have no reason to suspect wrongdoing.  But I don't know what to do to solve this problem.

In the error message, it seems that you are missing a low level library.  Basic framework is part of the operating system.  You say 'used to work iMovie', but that was with the version 10.1.2 and El Capitan or is that when you use an earlier version of iMovie or OS?

  • iMovie crashes after update of the Sierra

I use a Macbook Pro of the retina from the end of 2014, 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Processor, memory DDR3 16 GB 1600 MHz with 398 GB of available storage.

    I'm running iMovie Version 10.1.1.

Today, I upgraded to OSX Sierra without any problem. I edit a very short time (16 seconds) movie and trying to export, the application crashed. I tried exporting as a file, export to the theatre and many other methods, but as soon as I chose a method of export, the application crashed.

I tried to turn off the computer and it has not changed.

It's maybe just a bug, and you may need to wait for an update until it is fixed. What you can try is a clean reinstall of the Sierra of MacOS.

  • 10.1.2 iMovie crashes while editing. Failed attempts to re - open. Open with the option key down key allows you to delete the preferences but contains a relative error incompatible graphics card will then appear.  With the help of El Capitan

iMovie 10.1.2 falls down during editing of a film, usually by doing something like adding a title or a transition.  Failed attempts to restart.  Try to reboot with the option key + command allow you to remove preferences.  Then either receive an error indicating that the graphics card is incompatible or the application block requiring a force quite.  Restart or stop the iMac translates the suspended system requiring a manual stop holding down the Start button.  Restart in Safe Mode and then the normal startup will allow iMovie to load.  But after a few minutes of work with the program, it crashes and scenario again.  I use El Capitan 10.5.11 on an iMac of 2013.  I deleted the iMovie app and reloaded it, no change.  Someone has an idea for a fix?

  • Update 10.2.1 IMOVIE crashes just

IMOVIE 10.2.1 update crashes when exporting media in the timeline, what gives?

    Anyone else have problems?

If I understand correctly, you have created a library and clips imported into an event in this library. When you add a clip from the browser on the iMovie editing blocks. Does it occur with all clips or only some? Can add you music or photos from the library of pictures ok or that don't crash as well? If you get the bat with the foregoing and then try opening iMovie, hold down the command and option keys and delete preferences. If photos and music work well and all the clips fail, then you have a problem with the library. In this case, to create a new library and copy your event into the new library. If only some clips fail then I would remove their event and re-import.

  • iMovie crashes?

This problem has been laying again for a few days now; A few minutes after work, on iMovie and any action I do causes iMove to freeze and I have to wait for a while until it starts to work again or force them to leave. I've heard that I need to delete the preferences (com.apple.iMovieApp.plist) file, but cannot locate the file on my Mac. I tried to restart my computer, checking for updates (I'm completely up to date) same opening iMovie using the Terminal file (iMovie > contents > MacOS) but the problem is back.

  • After the migration to the new sshd, imovie now crashes whenever I try to open a project. All other applications are very good.

Yesterday I installed a new SSD in my MacBook Pro 13 "unibody mid-2012 laptop computer.

After installation, I formatted the drive, install a new copy, El Capitan, then moved the rest of my Time Machine backup.

The computer works great, much more quickly than before. Everything works perfectly except...

After migration, iMovie now blocks whenever I try to open a project. Every time. All other applications are very good. I even opened the original library from my old drive, opens the library of my Time Machine backup and they all down when I double-click on the icon for ANY project!

The files are not corrupt because they have not changed. It doesn't matter which library I use, it crashes whenever I try to open a project.

So far, everything on the Mac works fine. Other applications of Apple, everything! Please someone help me solve this problem because I use iMovie on a regular basis and have SEVERAL projects open that I can't afford to remove.

    Thank you!

    Hello Jon Tompkins,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

If I understand your message that iMovie crashes when you try to open a project. I know the importance of your projects are as I like to use iMovie as well. First of all, I would like to check to see that iMovie will appear in your shopping list in the Mac App Store. If so, delete the app and then reinstall it.

If this isn't the case, so do not delete the app. Instead, follow this link:

OS X El Capitan: If an application crashes or closes unexpectedly

Who also advises to test the problem in safe mode. This article includes the steps to start your MacBook Pro in safe mode:

Try safe mode if your Mac does not end commissioning

After having tested in safe mode, restart your Mac again and allow it to start up as usual. Then test the question again and see if it has not changed.

    Best regards
