Impact of Exadata database

Dear gurus,

Please share your valuable comments what will be the impact on database queries and sql on Exadata full rack when disk_asynch_io = false and filesystemio_options = asynch or setall?

As of now I have not test machince on Exadata to test above scenerio, so just wanted to know your point of view? Pleae share.

Thank you

Jihane Narain Sylca

All right

When you use ACFS as the file system that is basically like a dumb file system, you lose most of the benefits of Intelligent storage. Therefore, it is quite possible that dbwriter will return to the use of the standard i/o system calls to access the files on acfs. Note that you referenced

All the right questions... Welcome to the world of Exadata.

These are questions that could get into a lot more detail and discussion than a forum post. At a high level, you certainly don't want delete all indexes on Exadata. However, you need to index and an indexing strategy will change on Exadata. After you move a database from one not Exadata Exadata environment you are probably more indexed. Indexes used for OLTP transactions real - looking one or a few lines among others will usually quickly with an index. The index used to avoid a percentage of records but always returning number of records can often be moved. On the index depends on the nature of the workload and your application. If you have a control on the index, then test your queries and DML with the index (s) invisible. Check your implementation plan, the columns io_cell_offload in v$ sql, smart scan wait events to ensure you get intelligent analysis... and see if the smart scan is faster than using the index (s). The real-time SQL Monitor is an excellent tool to help with this - use dbms_sqltune or grid/cloud control.

Parallelism is a great tool to help still speed up queries and direct path loading operations and can help prompt smart scans... but use of parallelism really depends on your workload and must be controlled using DBRM and the parallel init parms, possibly using same parallel declaration put on hold, so it is not overwhelm your system and cause concurrency problems.

If you have a mixed environment of workload or consolidates databases on Exadata so my opinion is IORM plans should certainly be implemented.

Licenses of the impact on several databases

We want to create a separate database for one of our departments, we do not want manage their calls and call volumes, in our Technical Service.

Infra allows this, but what is the implications of the license when you do.

Do you need a key to separate license for users on the new system or it will pick up the license on the normal system file

and deduct the totals of this licenses when new users connect?

    Hello

We asked VMWare this question last year. Basically, you are allowed to install VSM systems as much as you want to test/development purposes but each live/operational system requires it's own license (from a license point of view).

    Hope that helps

    Hi Sameer,

This topic has been discussed on this forum last month, with some good ideas:

    Exadata version

Also note that the V2 and X 2 have gone through several rounds of material during their life, so not all machine V2 have the same CPU features, for example.

It's a matter of enforcement, not a question of Oracle.

Oracle doesn't care what time it is, or when the weather changes. Your applications, however, can occupy. If you use SYSDATE to fill a line and depend on the date later to be unique or to indicate that the actual command lines have been inserted, changing the date on the server, in particular, he back off, could cause problems for your application. Your application has problems running when daylight saving time to save changes?

  • Exadata - databases how?

    Hi members,

Exadata has amazing hardware specifications for eg - even the smallest config - Exadata X 3-2 c RAC has:

Storage servers 3 DB 2 with very large storage, pci cards, faster servers infiband network etc...

    Now my question...

    (1) if these materials are used to only run a DB (which can actually be requiring a high-end configuration)?

    (2) what is the real meaning of 2 DB servers? You can use it to implement two node RAC [Server assuming 1 DB for a single node] system?

    (3) these DB servers can are accessible individually to run in a heterogeneous environment of the databases such as the use of 1 DB for 1 database server...

Or is it just a plain pre-configured, "no changes could be made" system?

I'm just a beginner so please help me to clarify my doubts...?

    Hello user12054962,

    (1) if these materials are used to only run a DB (which can actually be requiring a high-end configuration)

A quarter rack gives you two database servers.  You can run a single database, or several, depending on your choice.  The main factor governing the maximum shadow of databases is generally the amount of memory on the servers, so I wouldn't say thousands of databases running on a single server.

    (2) what is the real meaning of 2 DB servers? You can use it to implement two node RAC [Server assuming 1 DB for a single node] system?

You get two physical servers that are running the Oracle database software.  You can indeed set a node two RAC system, and this is the most common configuration.

    (3) these DB servers can are accessible individually to run in a heterogeneous environment of the databases such as the use of 1 DB for 1 database server...

Altogether.  Or just run several databases on your two-node RAC system.

Oracle RAC documentation has more information on the differences between the servers, clusters, instances and databases.

    HTH!

  • Oracle EXADATA database

Hi, I'm doing research on which impact would be in my (ETL) application to Oracle EXADATA.

How, where can I find information on this topic?

    Thanks in advance

As says the famous phrase: "Exadata is still Oracle!
In other words, your application will most likely work the same as before - but 10 times faster :)

Seriously, you gave us too few details to say something specific.

A single point: ETL has generally flat files involved. You would put them in DBFS on Exadata.
If you have not yet heard about this: it looks like a regular file system for your ETL process, but it spans disks (almost) all storage servers.

  • Exadata database on solaris Server

Is running on the DB Exadata server is Solaris is big endian or little endian? This answer needs to pronounce on the conversion required when migrating to exadata endian.

    Hi Tycho,

I n ' think there a solaris exadata. they want just to know if he gets one if it can migrate direct big-endian to big-endian. Unfortunately "endianness" is a chip architecture proerly and not the operating system where the chips intel x 86 were always little endian unlike any tokens of risc architecture.

I think that the only big endian chips from intel were probably xscale, Intel i860 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia i860 and i960 itaniums.

  • Exadata X 5 extra processors enable eighth Rack

    Hello

We buy Exadata 5 X 8 Rack. He has 36 central units.

Oracle representatives told us that, if necessary, other 36 CPU can be activated by administrators (total will become 72 processors).

Please, can you tell us if it is easy to light these additional 36CPUs, later, because we need?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

    I know, it's for Oracle Exadata Database Machine X 5 - 2

    • The Minimum cores per server is 40% of the physical hearts
    • Maximum cores per server 36
    • You can get

    10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26,

    core of 28, 30, 32, 34 or 36

I suppose that for your situation, you will have 18 leading to 36 threads,
Then, you can proceed to 36 which lead to thread 72,

Anyway, the answer to your question is Yes, it is very easy,

He activation just new carrots, (without change of phy or add)

    E.g.

    DBMCLI > DBSERVER ALTER pendingCoreCount = new_number_of_active_physical_cores
    Then restart the server

    Good luck

  • How to learn Exadata? Didactic material useful and practical pointers practice?

Several times I was asked this question on the best way to learn Exadata. You want to get expert advice about this. Please comment.

    Thank you

    Aerts

    Aerts,

For more well rounded learning, I recommend the "Exadata Database Machine workshop" course of Oracle University.

The books already mentioned in this thread is a good complement. But you'll get the most out of the course.

Because of the uniqueness in how work storage servers I do not believe there is no publicly available VM Exadata.

    I hope this helps!

We are trying to install EBS 12.2.4 on 2 shared node APPL_TOP & single DB node. The default DB is 11.2.0.3, we expect the upgrade to 12.1.0.2

After upgrading DB to 12 c, we have a plan to convert this node 2 CARS & migrate the db to Exadata machines.

Could you please help us know the Metalink migration of 12 c to exadata & 12cRAC with 12,2 EBS on Exadata.

If possible please let me know your suggestion to achieve this.

When the Oracle ACS team built an Exadata machine based on the excel workbook that provides to the customer, they don't let not the spare ASM disks to use for the future ?

    Question2.

In a configuration of Exadata X 3 - 2 (full, half-board or 1/4), how can I determine the raw storage from the command line?

For example: for a half rack X 3-2, there are 7 storage servers. Each with 12 disks each a 3 to in size. That is to say 12 x 3 = 36 TB per server. But I know only from reading the specification. How can I determine this command line?

    Hi J.Kiechle,

    (1) the 12 drives in each cell are divided into 3 sections.

On the first two discs of that internal 30 GB is used for the operating system. the rest is used for the RECO (20%) and groups of disks of DATA (80%) (DATA is on the outer part of the disk).

On the other ten drives the internal 30 GB is used to DBFS and the rest is used for the RECO (20%) and groups of disks of DATA (80%). (If you opt for local backups RECO and the DATA will be distributed at 40%, 60%)

So in all the cells of the disks in the Group of DATA disks will be an equal size and location on all disks by avoiding an imbalance of IO. That there is no hot spare, you wouldn't be able to thus generate an imbalance of IO.

    (2) raw disk capacity is can be found in the total_mb column in v$ asm_diskgroup, but as part of it is used to reflect the ASM data I think more useful to ask for net capacity.

Please log in to your preferred as a DBA Exadata database and run the SQL next and after the release.

Guest "details of volume of the DSO."

    Select the name,

    Round (TOTAL_MB/decode(type,'NORMAL',2,'HIGH',3,1)/1024) total_GB,.

    Round ((HOT_USED_MB+COLD_USED_MB) /decode(type,'NORMAL',2,'HIGH',3,1)/1024) data_use_GB,.

    It is possible.

You can interconnect the Exalogic to Exadata Database Machine machine and take advantage of the high bandwidth of the InfiniBand fabric for demand for communication of data base and low latency.

For more information, see the technical documentation for Oracle.
