Importing saved Windows Mail folders in new Windows Mail program

I'll have to re - set up my Windows Mail after the death of my old hard drive. I am trying to import my old files from my Windows Mail Backup in my new Windows Mail. I was able to transfer the former folders of the backup but when I go to import it recognizes not all files. The error reads: "no messages are located in this folder or another application is running...". "I read several threads and it seems I also have to transfer via a file called folders.dbx, but it is not a list. I did a complete search on my C drive and nothing. How can I get these old records imported without this file?

Thank you!

Windows Mail does not dbx files.  Copy the store directory of all message on the desktop of the new machine.  Then right-click on the file and go to properties and make sure that they are not read-only.  Then go to file | Import | Messages in WinMail and choose the format from Windows Mail 7 and point to this directory.   See also here for general information: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm

If you can not always get messages in folders, you can create a new folder in WinMail and open it so that it displays a list of empty message.  Then, open up one of the subdirectories containing eml files in Explorer and drag an eml file on top of the list of message empty folder and drop and you will see it is embedded in the file.  Once you get a job, you can drag and drop all eml files at a time, as long as they are only the eml files.

  • Winmail.fol can't import to Windows Mail

    (1) I exported my Windows mail message in a folder.

    (2) I've reformatted my computer and then re-installed all programs.

    (3) I imported my e-mail Windows messages.

Mistakes: After importing, I see my mail folders (Inbox, sent and other), but the folders are empty.

If I open the backup folder, I see my folders (Inbox, sent and other) and in each folder, I see a file called winmail.

How to open these winmail files so I can access my saved emails?

You messages must be kept as discreet. EML files in the subfolders of the folder that you exported to.  If they aren't there, they cannot be exported properly.  If they are there, you can drag and drop them in Windows Mail.  In addition, you can search for. EML files which, again, can be move and fell into Windows Mail.

  • How to import my Windows Live Mail email messages in mail for Windows 8?

Before that I have upgraded Vista to Windows 8 I exported my (a few thousand) e-mail messages to save them in a folder.   Now I would like to import to Windows 8 mail.    How do I do that?

I had the same problem, although in my case, I was trying to transfer data to a new computer of Win8 from Win7.  I wanted to just transfer my files, e-mail and contact groups, as I did with previous updates.  According to technology Microsoft Office response that I talked for about an hour, Microsoft does NOT provide a way to import data from Microsoft previous E-mail programs (windows live mail) to any application of Win8, and you can't do that with Outlook.com either.  Basically, Win8 with all tiles or such is not really a basic messaging application yet.  She told me that I have to do is to get a copy of Outlook or windows live mail on the Win8 Office part, then run as a Win7 machine.  This seems to be the best answer, until Win8 is more mature.

  • How import from Windows mail emails.

I recently bought a new laptop and I use free email of Windows that comes with the computer.  I used this program on my old computer (I think it's Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail).  I exported my old emails and a subfolders and I would like to import to my new computer, but there is no option to import.  Nothing under the settings and I can not find the file menu in the new email (used t be on top right).  I exported the email fine but the screen in this new laptop (which has Windows 8) is very different.

    OT: Import emails

    Hi Said,

You will not be able to import the mails in the mail, instead of this application if you have e-mail messages in your Windows live mail, you can synchronize your mail app outlook.com e-mail so that all emails in the outlook.com e-mail appear in Windows 8 Mail app. As an alternative, you can also install Windows live essentials in Windows 8 import back the mails that you exported and use for reference.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have other problems with Windows in the future.

How to import emails from Windows mail to Outlook.  I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 and want to use Outlook 2002 for email from Windows mail program is no longer usable.

    The following versions of Microsoft Outlook are fully supported on Windows 7;

    • Outlook 2003
    • Outlook 2007
    • Outlook 2010 (when it came out)

It is recommended to always update your version of Outlook directly after installation to take care of any question of incompatibility which have been corrected.

    Previous versions
    Another version of Outlook is not supported on Windows 7. Although you may install it, any compatibility issues is not corrected. For example;

    • Outlook 2002/XP works on Windows 7, but it has the same problems remember password when using Windows Vista.
    • Outlook 2000 cannot be installed in Internet Mail Only Mode (IMO) and must be installed in company/workgroup (CW Mode) Mode to prevent a mistake wab.dll.

I can't get emails from my default mail on windows 7 now I have a new laptop with windows 8

  • Windows Vista mail program does not export the files all contacts

After I exported my contacts from e-mail in vcf format windows in a new folder on my desktop, I noticed that NOT all contracts are present in the new folder.   If the contents of the folder, I show the long side windows messaging contacts which I exported the contacts I see some (to be precise, 256) are missing in the new folder. I exported 3 times, each time in a new folder and get the same results. I see that some of the missing files are group folders (apparently Windows Mail does not export to group files in vcf format) but the other files are simply not in the contents of the desktop folder.

How can I get all the files AND folders in groups to export correctly?

I was going to say that if you were interested in the migration of these contacts to another Vista computer, you can simply copy the file C:\Users\username\Contacts to your USB and then copy it to the other computer. Which retains all the attributes, including groups.

For any other use, you're stuck fairly well with help of VCF or CSV format to export/import. Sorry, I have no idea why so many contacts are missing when you did.

There is another method (roundabout). Install the free Windows Live Mail program, which will automatically import all contacts from Windows Mail. Be sure to select the option Live ID when prompted by the installer of Windows Live Mail. Therefore, you can keep all your contacts in perfect sync with other computers running Windows Live Mail, and you also have access to the contacts on any computer connected to the Internet by simply go tohttp://contacts.live.com and sign in with the same Live ID.

You said the following: " " Windows Mail is not for the export of groups. If you'd tell us what you intend to do with the exported contacts, we are able to offer a workaround solution. »

    My answer:

I want to export my contacts to a USB key that I can take with me and be able to view them on any other PC. I have already established that if I save as the original file extension IE .contact ,, I'm NOT able to view on a computer that is running the Win XP operating system because who uses the email program Outlook Express and the file extension is .wab. I have not yet tried view the contacts vcf on Win7, but as I understand it, I should be able to view the contacts to vcf on that too.  My problem is that I'm missing 256 contacts after I export . I understand that windows Mail export NO groups, but there are only 9 groups from my list of contacts. WHY other contacts don't get exported? I'm doing something wrong and if so, what?

I appreciate any help you can give.  Thank you and have a nice day.

  • How can I access my emails after the death of my PC. I had a pc using Windows Vista and I served my Windows Mail e-mail program.

Disaster of Windows Mail.  Where are my emails please?

How can I access my emails after the death of my PC. I had a pc using Windows Vista and I served my Windows Mail e-mail program.  The computer has stopped working so I removed the hard drive, put it in a case and now use it as an external drive.  My new computer, I took possession of the Documents and Settings folder, and I'm looking for emails.  I followed the path, Documents and Settings / / AppData / Local / Microsoft / Windows Mail but there are 2 folders, backup & stationery as well as a few small files.  Where I could hide my email? Please, I beg you.

There should be a directory called local folders under the message store and eml files organized into folders named after the directories under this directory are.  They may be hidden files, so make sure that you have enabled the display of hidden files and folders under control panel | Folder options | View.  You can also try to search *.eml, because messages are stored as eml files.  See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm for background.
