Impossible to erase driv hard iMac

I have an iMac 2007 I try to delete it, just to make a new start. Nothing to save, just want to go to the Mavericks, I have on a USB key. Any tips? 10.6.8 now running.

Clean Install of Snow Leopard

Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

1. start the computer using the Snow Leopard installation disc or disc 1 that came

with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.

After the ring, press and hold the C"" key.  Release the button when you see

a small gear appear under the dark gray Apple logo.

2. once the load setup program select your language and click continue

button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.

After charge OF select hard drive entry in the list on the left (mfgr. ID and drive

size.)  Click the Partition tab in the main window of THE.  Set the number of

partitions to one (1) from the Partitions of the dropdown menu, click on the Options button

GUID, click OK, and then select define the Mac OS Extended format type

(Logged, if supported), and then click the apply button.

3. when formatting is complete FROM and return to the installer.  Move forward

with the installation of OS X and follow the instructions included with the installer.

4. Once installation is complete your computer will restart in the Setup

Assistant. After finishing Setup Wizard will complete the installation, after which

you will use a new installation of Mac OS X.  You can now begin the process of updating

at the opening of updated software and installing all recommend updates to bring your

current installation.

Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo. You can then try to install your USB Mavericks.

The upgrade to the Mavericks

To upgrade to the Mavericks, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks

  • worrying/weird doc installed at the top of my drive hard iMac

a weird text document has suddenly appeared at the level of the base ('root'?) of my internal hard drive, over Applications, library etc files. Given news today on the ransomeware via Flash Player vulnerability, I wonder if I should be worried...?

titled '%%8C % 80% FD E79', it was "created/modified/last opened' yesterday - and very oddly, when I try to trash, I get a"Finder wants to make changes. Type your password for this purpose"dialog box. Of course don't get that, or try to open the doc text, I've never seen Finder no matter what but something Trash when I do. By reading the information, the file is 92 bytes (4 KB on disk) and has been created/modified last night at 23:17. And sharing and Permissions under name/privilege - system (read & write), 'wheel' and 'all' (read-only). Not to recognize the last two, are these positions of privilege typical I don't recognize? And what (or who) is "wheel"?

I remember another strange behavior of Mac spends about the same exact time last night. While I was successfully streaming TV Live (on site Time Warner) on Chrome, I tried to access my Gmail on another Chrome window and a message "your computer is offline." Web page Ditto w/other attempts. But the TV stream was very good, my router box lights all flashing in line/OK and SysPrefs network and security showed I was indeed online, never met this front either. If again installed on my hard drive - I can't Trash without entering my system password - this doc strange, unjustified has something to do with it...?

Please help, very worried until I don't know if I should be worried about it or not, thanks.

Apart from your hard drive, you have bad stuff installed: CleanMyMac. You must get rid of it - it cleans so that it deletes the components required by the system. You have also Avast installed - you must uninstall. The rest of the report is missing.

Now, regarding your hard drive: you can try using disk utility to repair, but it may be on its way. You must ensure that you have a backup NOW that the drive can fail at any time. After that, try to fix it-if it is not repairable, then it must be replaced.

  • PSE 8 fails to run on the new drive hard iMac after Time Machine backup

I had to have my iMac drive replaced the week last in the replacement of the Apple program. After installing the new drive, I restored the whole Machine on the new drive Time backup. Most things work perfectly, but I get an error message when I try to run PSE 8. The error is 150:30 of error indicating "license has stopped working". I tried a number of things to correct this as described in http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/error-licensing-stopped-mac-os.html, but found that most of the FlexNet referring to article data does not exist on my machine, so I am unable to complete the recommended steps (I did the hidden files visible). Also the Flexnet files do not appear on the backup volume. When I try to reload the software with the original disks I have just the player to make some noise and then eject it. All the other CD/DVD to work as usual. Very welcome ideas

Download PSE 8 on trial download site and use your current serial number to activate it:

  • Lightroom cannot import photos from disk hard iMac and extern library

Using the trial version I can't import pictures from the library drive hard iMac and extern. Libraries are gray and do not react. Why? And what to do?

At present there are no plug-in to import the new photo App. If you want your photos to display any edition already made in iPhoto/Aperture/Photos, it is better for export versions to the desktop or create new folders in the Finder. Then import duplicates in Lightroom. You can also include IPTC metadata during the creation of new versions.

  • Use iMac drive HARD internal for storage only.

I initialize my iMac to an external SSD. It makes my computer run faster. How can I completely wipe the drive HARD internal of my iMac and use it as a storage only?

This isn't a big problem, except one. Apple does not support this method as a permanent solution. However, you have an iMac of 2012. I have a Mac Mini from 2012. I used a 1 to LaCie Thunderbolt Rugged HD to do this thing very via the Thunderbolt port. It worked very well for a while. Personally, I started my primary internal HD for OS X and the LaCie Thunderbolt as external storage. For reasons of registration and so on. Recovery of the Internet, as well. I have not found any major difference in the "boot speed" between internal or external HD. I upgraded the RAM of 4 GB to 16 GB all. and BAM!

My HD Thunderbolt is partitioned as a time Capsule (1st partition bootable) and Mac Storage (2nd partition). The choice is yours, of course.

    Bravo!

Once started, open utility disk, go to the tab clear, select Mac OS X extended (journaled) format with Option GUID. Erase the hard drive. When you are finished, install Snow Leopard. Once completed, restart normally and set up your account using Setup Assistant. Then use the update from the drop-down list below to update to10.6.8. • reformat and erase/wipe hard drive

    Hi friends,

I'm about to make a donation or to throw my old Dell desktop that is running Windows XP, sp3 (what that is the possibility arises first ).  I'm sorry that I don't remember the name of the model (for the moment).  But anyway, what I understand, I need to delete all the data, to protect my private life of anyone who might want to use it after I'm done with it.

The research I've done, looks like I need to uninstall and remove programs, documents, pictures, music, etc., as much as possible and record everything I want to keep a cd drive or usb.  Then to start the delete process, first I have to reformat the hard drive.  After that, I need to "sweep" it.  I guess I wouldn't be surprised of this paradoxical terminology, but it IS annoying.  I'm talking about it wiping of the process which does not remove anything, but rather replaces the disk, at least a few times, to have my most difficult to recover data .

Could someone me directly to the appropriate instructions for reformatting the hard drive please?  Or if there is an article or something about this whole process, which you could link me to, that would be great.

Also, I looked for a program to make wiping.  There are those who are free and more expensive.  I prefer free, unless they are just not worth it.  All of you have recommendations for wiping program?

Actually, come to think of it, I could still be able to use the computer.  Once I refortmat hard drive, isn't that kind of start over with a clean slate as?  If I couldn't reinstall WinXP right back?   Or I wonder if I could install Win7?  My most recent computer running Win7, so I should have the cd somewhere.  Although this old computer has only 1.24 GB of ram.  So maybe not Win7, but even with XP, I could at least still use the printer that is connected to it.  (The printer and its software are probably too old to run on my newer computer.)  As long as I do not plan to use the internet, there is no security issues with this os to an old/old help... right?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi Brynn4,

Just to add to the comments of rdunnill, I'm guessing that you can't pay for a new operating system for a computer that is worth less that the license will cost you. My suggestion would be to wipe the drive and perform a new installation of XP if you have the XP Dell installation disk. There are many free utilities that can erase the hard drive safely. You DO NOT need to uninstall anything before formatting the disk.

Otherwise, I would restore the original hard disk image if you do not have a Dell XP disc.

And Yes, I understand that Microsoft ends in favor of XP, but there are many people who use computers for non-critical tasks that would be happy to put more than a few miles on your old desktop computer.
