Impossible to get Firefox to remember passwords

Recently, I had a total crash. Reference Dell should replace the entire machine. On the older machine I was running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit. Now I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. On the older machine Firefox asked if I wanted to that it to remember the password. On the new machine that does not happen. "Remember passwords for Sites" is turned on. I'm not running in private browsing mode. I had to give up Firefox and go back to IE. Is not a happy choice.

Have you moved all the files from the old computer to the new computer or did you start with a new Firefox profile?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

  • Do not click on the reset button on the start safe mode window or make changes.

It is possible that there is a problem with key3db and signons.sqlite files that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.

In the Firefox profile folder, rename the files key3db and signons.sqlite.

You can add .old files (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) names or move them to another folder to make it possible to cancel the action.

You must define a new master password after renaming or removing the signons3.txt and all the currently saved passwords are lost.

If that worked, then you can delete the renamed files that are no longer needed.

  • Is there a way to get Firefox to remember the password on a site that was chosen as "never" or "not now".

Remember passwords works OK for a new site. I have been using a different password manager and did not want Firefox to remember passwords, but now with sync option would get Firefox to remember passwords once connections, I marked "never" or "not now".

If you chose 'not now' it should ask you every time. The only time where it is not supposed to ask is if he did not remember a password, or you have already told him 'never '.

Despite everything, go to tools-> Options (or editing-> Preferences if you do not see 'Options' from the Tools menu) click the 'Security' tab, and then search for the [Exceptions] button and click it. You will see the list of sites you said FF never to remember a password. Select the one you want, or all of them, and then click the [Remove] button.

Revisit the site, and when you enter the password and press enter or click to connect, it should encourage them to remember this password.

  • Is it possible to force Firefox to remember passwords?

As many have complained, there is a growing trend for websites prevent browsers, including Firefox, to remember passwords. It's absolutely maddening. Like most people, I have the order of 100 passwords, and thanks to the idiots, an excess of zeal IT guys who need to justify their own jobs, we are forced to constantly change the ridiculous combinations, impossible to remember symbols and numbers. (Everyone really get their accounts stolen because some hacker sits down and tries to guess their password? Somehow I find it very, very hard to believe.)

First world problems, I know. However, my question is simple: is it possible to force Firefox to remember passwords? Maybe an add-on or an external program any? I know there are programs of password manager, but last time I checked, those who were practically worthless and did not support working as well as the Firefox built-in to remember passwords. Thanks for any help.

Hello Andrew, Yes, you can either install an addon or use a bookmarklet to work around this restriction.

in a next version of firefox, this feature will also be integrated directly in the browser: http://www.ghacks.net/2013/12/24/firefox-29-save-fill-autocompleteoff-passwords/

I would like firefox to save my password on a site, because I always forget and need to make a new. but any firefox never propose to 'Remember password' on this site for a reason. can I do remember for this site?

No, sorry, a bookmarklet (if that's what you try) is a JavaScript code snippet that hacks the page open. Running it in a different tab won't help.

I have not tried these bookmarklets myself, but to run it, you copy the code to the Clipboard, right-click on the bookmarks toolbar and choose new bookmark, then passed to the location. You can give the bookmark any name you like. usually something short works better.

This happens on all websites, or just this one?

If there is a key icon located on the left side of your address bar, you can click this option to open the password prompt again.

If there is no key icon in the address bar, it is most likely because the site is configured to redirect to another page or a domain. Once you are redirected or navigate to another page, the password dialog box will disappear.

Unfortunately, if this is the case, nothing you can do, as the redirect is probably in the codes of the Web site. The only option would be to try to stop the redirection Web site by clicking on the button stop in the address bar.

You can also try temporarily turning the accessibility setting that prevents the redirection of Firefox Web sites. This can be changed from the advanced settings in the page options, on the general tab.

Let us know if it works.

Note: If you stop the redirection page, you probably to reload the page after you have saved the password, in order to allow the site load the appropriate content. If you turn on the warn me when forwarding setting, you will need to disable this feature, after you save this password, so that the website to function properly.

You just did something as simple as to delete your cookies.
When you connect to these Web sites you check 'Remember password'? Or not it does not save your paper in even with it checked.
You will just need to resave your journal in the cache by checking the box 'Save password' on Web sites as you go on. (Who will save your e-mail/username as well)

  • Impossible to get Firefox to recognize the profile saved on the new computer.

I just installed a fresh copy of Windows and I want to transfer my old profile for this installation of Firefox. I'm in Firefox 4 on my new computer and my old. I copied the xxxxxx.user of my folder AppData/Local/Mozilla/Profiles folder on my flash drive. Then I ran the Profile Manager on my new computer and created a new profile. Finally, I copied the contents of my original xxxxxx.user file in the new folder of xxxxxx.user (I do not just copy the old profile folder in the profile of the new Firefox installation, only the data folder). When I loaded Firefox, however, it seems fair that I had installed fresh and had not yet done something with it. I would really like my history on this new PC. Thank you.

    AppData/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles

This is not your profile folder, it is a secondary file that contains the cache and fast loading files and is linked in the main profile folder. You want the main is here:
