    original title: error 0x8007054F code: could not install SP3 for Windows XP because of the Filec:\windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys being open or being used by another application. "Internal error."

    I tried to install Windows Service Pack 3 for Internet Explorer8. When you try to install this "priority" update, it begins the installation process, and then returns could not install Windows Service Pack 3 due c:\windows\system32\drivers\acpi.sys file is open or in use by another application. Internal error 0x8007054F. The only thing I have running in this case is the Internet (where I go to get the update) and the windows installation progress. What should I do to get past this problem? Please help me...

  • Just installed SP3 for XP - now many of my icons are generic "executable", including MS Apps

    I finally just installed SP3 for XP and will have proplems with my icons.  Many of my shortcuts desctop now have generic icon for an executable file, and I can't get back them to the icon on the right, even using TweakUI.  This includes all applications of MS Office 2007.  Are still not working the icons to launch the application, but I can't retrieve the appropriate icon.

    When I right click an icon of 'good', I get a full menu of options, including those installed with other applications (like adding a archive, WinRAR).  With a "generic" icon, I get only the default list.

    When I choose Properties for a 'good' icon, the target lists the full path to the .exe file and is editable.  I can also click on the three buttons at the bottom.  With a 'generic' in the properties icon, the target is simply the name of the program (Outlook 2007 lists "Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007") and is grey, so I can't change it.  In addition, the "Find target" and "Change icon" buttons are gray.

    Finally, the files associated with these applications have also lost their icons and now show just generic file icons.  However, double click on these files still brings the correct application and the 'Type' is always listed correctly.

    Any ideas on how I could fix this?  Thank you!

    OK, I thought about it... and feel kind of stupid but I did not before.  In any case, I posted the question, so I'll share my answer - the long version.

    During my first install of XP on my machine, I did a 10 GB partition which would be fair for the operating system.  After a few years, it became clear that it was a little too small, this partition began to fill.  When I first tried to go to SP3, I didn't have enough space on this partition to complete it.  then, I moved some files on the main data partition.  One of the folders, I moved a C:\WINDOWS\Installer.  I didn't know that this file was required for some of the icons on my desktop .exe.

    Anyway, I moved everything back to where it belongs, and now everything is back to normal.  Learn something new every day if you're not careful!

  • DVD player doesn't work after installing SP3 for Windows XP.

    DVD player doesn't work after installing SP3 for Windows XP. That it disappeared from "MY COMPUTER". Device Manager sees it, but there's a yellow exclamation mark over it. See the BIOS of the motherboard and it still works in the BACK. I know SP3 is a collection of updates, but I'm not sure that is my problem. I suspect it's one of the more recent cause I have Windows automatic updates is turned on. Thank you.

    I guess Xp 32 means 32-bit?

    You install sp3 via Windows update or you manually download sp3 and try to install it? If you have not tried to install it manually we will give that a shot. Download sp3 from HERE. Save the file to your desktop for convenience. Double-click on the file and choose run. Make sure that you disable all malware/spyware/antivirus before installing software.

  • Computer Toshiba laptop does not start after trying to install SP2 for vista 32 bit

    Tried to install SP2 for vista updates, it stagnates at 12%, message saying a problem has been detected and windows has been closed to protect the computer. At the bottom of the error message screen, it reads, technical info-stop OXOOOOC1F5. Windows doesn't start at all now, has tried running safe mode, pilots seem to load, then it returns to the screen error message with the same problem said. Nothing seems to work, tried same recovery disk came with the computer, it says it is loading files, then it returns also to error message screen. Computer came with vista pre-installed, so I don't have this drive to try. Someone at - it solutions? Very frustrating, how do I search problem when the computer will not start at all? Help!

    Follow the info below to try a Startup Repair:

    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.

    If yours falls into the category above, download the ISO on the link provided and make a bootdisk of it.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista repair disc.
    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
    There is not a disk of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    You can install software for windows vista 32 bit on a 64 bit system

    Source of confused, between the header and the body of the post, as you ask your question.

    Vista 32 bit OS will work on a computer that is capable of with Vista 64-bit OS.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    You can install most 32-bit software on a Vista 64-bit operating system, with the notable exception being the anti-virus programs.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-AU/Windows-Vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions
    Most of the programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows works on 64-bit Windows version. The notable exceptions are many antivirus programs.
    Device drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows do not work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you try to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows
  • Impossible to install PS Elements 10 64-bit
    Hello
    I bought Photoshop Elements 10. The package contains the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. 32-bit works well under Windows XP and 7. Today, I've disabled the serial number and wanted to install the 64 bit version on my new machine for Windows (64-bit) 10.
    After inserting my serial number and I got the message: "incorrect serial number. Thiès is not a valid serial number. Go back and insert the again serial number. »
    Then I installed the 32 bit version and serial number was accepted as a valid number.
    My questions are:
    1. Why does consider the 64-bit version my serial number as not being is not valid.
    2. How can I install this version?
    I look forward to your suggestions and thanks in advance for your kind attention.
    PES 10 is 32-bit only.
    If you try to install first 10 items, which requires a serial number different than pse 10.
