Improper shutdown on Satellite U840W

Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite U840W laptop (Windows 7) and after about 15 minutes of inactivity it stops. When I go to start it again, it goes through the process of 'improper shutdown' and Windows does a check for a solution.

Is this normal or is it a setting I need to look?

Any help much appreciated.

Would it be possible that your laptop has been preloaded with Win 8?
You reinstall Windows 7 using a clean Windows 7 disk?
If so, have you installed all the drivers Win 7 driver Toshiba page?

From my point of few, it would be possible that the laptop turns off due to low battery.

Does the laptop powers off all on battery? Or when it s connected to the power outlet?

It would be also possible that turns off due to power management settings (or the parameters defined in the ECO utility)

Your comments would be greatly appreciated

  • Satellite U840W - clicking the icons/applications - nothing happens

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite U840W-10J, have had for about 20 months without no problems so far. Without warning and apparently at random times, my laptop loses its ability to launch any application. If I select an application icon from the menu start/work station or to a file in a folder, nothing happens. Applications that are already open when the problem affects work very well, if I close them I can't reopen. My office then goes black and my desktop icons disappear, everything except the Recycle Bin.

I can only restart the computer by pressing the power or by using CTRL + ALT + DELETE key. My laptop is restarted it will then work as usual for a period of time before the same thing happens again. I use Windows 8.1 and I have McAfee Internet Security installed. The problem started about 2 weeks ago.

Any ideas or support would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hi Iwan

According to your message the laptop together problems might arise due to some malfunction of the system/software... I think that no one will be able to tell what is the problem with preinstalled system, but you can try to solve the problem of cleaning the registry and operating system.

    How?

I could recommend one freeware tool called CCleaner... this software was already mentioned in the different forum discussions and it helps you to clean the registry and remove the temporal files stored...

In the event that this software does not help, try to repair the system using Windows 8.1 repair solutions: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2A03ES0000R01.htm
The "Refresh" option could be the key here...

But in the worst case, if you would not be able to resolve the problem by using the "refresh" option, then you could try to recover the laptop using the Toshiba HDD recovery... "Reset your PC" would be the next possible step...

  • Satellite U840W PSU5XA - Win 8.1 installation and effective use of SSD

    Hello.

IM in the hope of a solution to the two questions.
The second that I suspect is caused by the first.

    Satellite U840W PSU5XA-001006

Has started getting the BSOD with various defects.
The most persistent has been IRQ LESS or not EQUAL - iaStorAV.sys

Many hours of research and I can't find a solution or post did the extension "AV" the iaStore.sys...

So I have provided zero factory (BSOD) issues have persisted.

So, I Clean installed Windows 8.1 directly above everything and removed all previous records.

I noticed that the system was not working all utility brand TOSHIBA factory etc. and seemed to be much slower. I suspected that this was caused because of the 32 GB used SSD as Cache has apparently been bi-passe and now everything worked strictly on the 500 GB HARD drive. I don't remember BSOD, but the system has been significantly slower on the start-up and performance.

(SIGH), I even once reset to factory settings, and it gave me back TOSHIBA utilities such as gas stations of the brand.

HOWEVER, the BSOD remained, and once the upgrade to windows 8.1 MAINTENANCE of files and settings, the iaStorAV.sys error is returned (specifically when closing lid in mode "standby") forcing the CRITICAL error and force the system to restart instead of awakening from sleep.

Note: Windows is a legitimate copy of MS, so it's not the question. More strange, it's that 8.1 installation had run at least 8 months no problem before sudden BSOD Page file and iaStorAV errors. Readings and messages have believe me MS Updates to bee the culprit here for the start of these issues.

I read a similar post regarding RAID CACHE PRIOR to 8.1 Windows Installer. My intuition tells me that these two can only be related. that is if windows was incorrectly installed RAID cache, CACHE is not in strored properly and causing BSOD. Im a beginner at this stuff, so be patient...

What I really want to know is, how now can I Factory Reset Windows 8, make it positive to the 32 GB is used as CACHE and help etc. fastboot, then pass safely to 8.1 Windows?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ATTEMPT of THINGS ALSO: TSRI and RAID re - install, memory (success), updated BIOS to 6.70, Diagnostic fast storage re-installed drivers

    Thanks in advance,
    Mr. frustrated...

iastorav.sys is part of the technology Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver.
The BSOD appears to be related to this pilot and is therefore the first step which I recommend: update the Intel rapid Storage Manager driver.
The latest version should be available on the Intel driver page.

If you use the Toshiba Recovery disk or the HARD drive recovery process, you will get the same system and State of the laptop computer as on the first day of purchase. In this case, the system must be configured correctly.

But if you have deleted or replaced the HDD / SSD in the past, then the RAID configuration is lost and must be rebuild with special tools / software and the procedure.
This can be done ONLY authorized by the service provider.

By the way: the upgrade to win 8 to 8.1 Win has been very well described in this Toshiba HowTo doc:

  • Satellite U840W - disc cannot be displayed in disk part operating system does not start

Yesterday I tried to boot my laptop Toshiba Satellite U840W (PSU5XA-001006) and it came with no bootable device - please reboot

When I try to view the disc in the part of the disk, it cannot see that the USB key that I use to try to reinstall Win 8. In the setup of windows 8 I can't display the installation discs. I can't run the recovery because I don't have a recovery disk and repair does not work as it says that the disk is locked.

Don't know what I can do now, would be grateful for all those who had suggestions.

Of course, there is a problem with the internal HARD drive.
If it is not listed in the BIOS (BIOS first page) then the HARD drive died and that's why the system cannot be found.

I guess that in this case, there is only one solution: HARD drive needs to be replaced and the system must be installed again.

  • Satellite U840W - no RAID on BIOS option after PC repair

    Hello

I bought a U840W of August from a British seller on eBay (although I live in France). After a few months of work perfectly, he had some water damage, and I sent it to Toshiba for repair. Apparently because my warranty was valid in the United Kingdom, they gave to CONTROLS for repair (a company that sells PC Toshiba parts). They changed the motherboard (I think twice, because I had to send it because the fan was not working and they said they changed the motherboard again).

So after getting it back finally with the fan, I notice that the startup is very slow (30 sec instead of 10), and also, it was a bit slower. So I update all my drivers and notice that the caching SSDS does not work (using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology technology), initially, he showed the SSD as unknown but then after completely with diskpart, it showed as available (for storage, but not for caching) ", this means no acceleration tab).

So after reading a lot, I enter the BIOS and see that I have had no RAID option for the SATA controller, only AHCI and compatibility (IDE).

Don't you think that they put the wrong mother with RAID disabled?
My BIOS version is also 6.90 and I find only 6,80 BIOS for my computer, don't you think they have access to the latest version of the BIOS, or simply that they have put another motherboard?

Is it possible to downgrade the BIOS to 6.80 (I don't know if it will help to solve it but maybe)?

I didn't contact Toshiba on the phone because it's quite expensive, I preferred to ask your opinions before here.

    Thanks in advance

    > Do you think they put the wrong mother with RAID disabled?
    No, I don't think so.

As far as I know after a replacement of SSD or HARD disk on the Mobile Satellite U840W the RAID mode is configured and TSRI (quick start of Intel technology) is not available.

To rebuild mode factory RAID, RAID mode should be rebuild and TSRI must be activated using special tools.
But as far as I know that this can be done by the maintainer agreed Toshiba.

You should get in touch with the guys once more and must explain the cell phone number.
I guess they should know how to solve this problem.

  • Hinge broken on my Satellite U840W

    Hello

Any who have experienced problems with Satalite U840W broken hinges.

My hinge broke 2 weeks before the laptop was 6 months.

Toshibe service won't change it under warranty, even laptop have not been abandoned or in our treated means - normal opening and closing. Laptop is more or less without stain.

I can see in several forums that there have been previous problems with hinges satelitte, but cannot find any information on U840W.

    Thans for all assistance.

    Gert

    > I see in several forums that there have been previous problems with hinges satellite, but cannot find any information on U840W.
Occasionally someone reports on these issues, but on this forum, I think you're the first person who has this problem with the Satellite U840W. To be honest I don't know what to say on this subject.
I understand you, but service must follow the rules defined by the manufacturer of the laptop. If there is not any general problem with hinges on certain model of laptop, I imagine that they are skeptical about it and do not want t in the case of warranty repair.

Now, this is a bit complicated. Have you wondered how you pay for repair?

  • Satellite U840W - adapter LAN network simply disappeared.

I need to connect my laptop Satellite U840W via Ethernet and I can't find the LAN controller, it worked fine but it just disappeared from one day to the other.

I have download the drivers of many times but still nothing appears.
Any tips? Is it possible that the ethernet card may be broken?

    Thank you

    Hello

You mean the LAN controller isn't listed in Device Manager, not even as an Ethernet controller or an unknown device?

Hmm, looks like a malfunction of the LAN controller. But it's really hard to believe
    What is the BIOS?
You have default t it? Check this box

However before speaking with a technician, I recommend you to reset the computer laptop back to settings factory just to check if the same question of LAN appears using the preinstalled image of Toshiba.

  • Satellite U840W-C9S - Windows 8 installation and effective use of SSD

I am trying to install Windows 8 on my Toshiba Satellite U840W C9S.

It has two disks: * HDD (500 GB) * and * SSD (32 GB) *. Originally, my computer has Windows 7 HP, and, as I understand it, SSD has acted as a cache, so that Windows has been installed on the HARD drive.

I installed Windows 8 at the disk and started looking for information on the ssd as cache usage.
But it turns out that you must set the SATA RAID mode in BIOS, but I don't have the option here.

This is why when I install technology Intel Rapid Storage (which is used to configure the SSD as cache) there is no option to use the SSD as cache.

It is clear that my computer used to treat the SSD somehow. The question is, how can I use SSD + effective + (not only as another hard drive, but as cache, for example)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    > It turns out that you must set the SATA RAID mode in BIOS, but I don't have the option here.

This option isn't available in the BIOS because the RAID is still active / active.

To use the QuickStart, you must follow these steps:
-Firstly the Intel IRST utility must be installed
-Now go to the disk (win key + X-> disk management) management and format the SSD drive. In this case the SSD will be visible in the Explorer (windows Explorer)
-Now right click on the SSD drive, choose Properties and here you should find a tab (don t know exactly how its called) that contains the option for the quick start

I hope that this will be functions, otherwise there is no other way to effectively use the SSD drive

  • Satellite U840W-10J - noisy fan and the version of the bios

    Hello

    more top of the machine when you run tempro said new version of bios is available, the link to it is [Satellite U840W BIOS 6, 40 - WIN | http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 2 & selSeries = 198 & selProduct = 7570 & selSh ortMod = null & language = 13 & selOS = 40 & selType = 4 & yearupl = DST & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = all Machines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = all & selectedLanguage = 13 & type = 4 & page = 1 & ID = 84640 & DISO =-1 & driverLanguage = 42]

But when I go to the bios, it says the version of bios is already 6.4 - which is strange since the release of this version of the bios date is 10/07/13. And I don't know that I don't have day of the bios for this version this month :)

Why does say new version is available?
Would be - that there's a newer version available, that only that it binds to an evil?
Even if I download and try to install it, it says that this version of the rom is the same.

Second question is noisy fan, most of the time is at very high speed (and because of the odd design, when the laptop is open, screen - which becomes really hot fan).
Since no other laptop I used make these noises, if I really need to update for the bios? But which version?

Health Monitor shows the 77% fan speed - and I'm not playing games or whatever it is, cpu is always below 10%, I m doing nothing, just a light browsing can turn up to such percentage. What I've noticed, is that it becomes this top still when HARD drive this is - like application installation, download updates, etc... I have download the latest drivers intel to drive HARD, all drivers are more recent. Or is it only noisy due to bad design (fan blowing on screen), and I can use it for heavy work and just have to ignore the noise of the fan?

Last updated driver to trackpad kills finger double scroll btw, so, maybe you guys could solve the problem too? Since I had to go back to the old version.

BTW, the machine is only two days old

I think that you should not be confused on BIOS. Maybe there is a problem with Tempro. This process runs automatically and it is possible that there is a technical problem. If you have latest BIOS is OK so Don t you worry about this. Just continue to use your laptop and don t change anything.

What about cooling fan? Cooling fan is controlled automatically and according to the temperature CPU cooling fan works more rapid or slower. When you play the games you need more performance, so use leverage plan high performance. For each day of activities, use the balanced power plan. It will reduce the CPU usage, but it will be good enough for low level activities. What you can try is to change the options for the method of cooling. You can find it in the advanced power options. It should reduce fan cooling and portable activity should run quietly.

    Play around with these options.

  • Satellite U840W-10J - won't play DVD or blu - ray without black bars

Hello Toshiba people friendly and helpful.

Are you coming to my rescue once, but I fear it may be trickier.

I have the joy of uber-beautiful widescreen which is a Satellite U840W - I want to use all of the 1792 x 21:9
768 resolution for DVD / Blu - Ray. I use a Samsung Toshiba SE-506 as the Blu-ray/DVD, but I don't know what software to use.

I used VLC and Powerlink DVD 10 software provided with the Blu - ray player, but so far, everything is not just the black border at the top and bottom, but it has also massively chunky black bordered on each side as well - certainly not what you want.

The two pieces of software want to display at a resolution of 1024 x 768, which is why so much real estate is wasted.

I got the impression of Toshiba that I would be able to use all the horizontal resolution and cut the top and the bottom - but no solution I found to this day allows.

Interestingly, I tried to use Windows Media Player, but that does not even recognize that there is a DVD in the drive ready to play.

Help me obi-wan-kenobis, you're my only hope for sanity.

Thank you very much in advance
    Alan

    > I also finally has get blu - ray works.
    Great!
I think you can also use the Windows Media Center (for W8n 8) but this part to win 8 must be purchased separately.

    > Also, no matter who ever got 9 hours autonomy of one of these computers yet? 6 hours, if you're lucky...
The reference of the battery (Mobile Mark 2012) says that you can run Notepad on battery (4 cell battery) for about 5 h 15 min... Up to 6 hours is a good value for you.

  • HP Envy 5534: Improper shutdown, cartridge delivers, paper jams

I tried to print something, and I put the paper in (which was already very slightly bent) and you press on print. While it was printing, all of a sudden unusual noise you could hear then I pressed "Cancel" and the warning that "there is a paper jam it' came.

I lifted the door to cartridges that come after the door to scan and went out the paper, the paper had a few small holes in it and has been ruffled. Then I tried to print with another, less wrinkled paper and he said ' the following ink cartridges need to be replaced: HABs. I thought it was a mistake, so I tried to take the cartridge out and put back in. He also said that there was an obstruction or jam, he asked me to move the cartridges along the metal tube that they were on and moving back again in the animation. Place the cartridges were certainly in the clasp evenly in a good way, and the cartridges that I returned permanently to the extreme right were he went into a slot. There was a sticky white substance on the tube, so I cleaned it with tissue paper. I tried again, he says a 'transport' or something was unable to move. All the time the printer came with messages such as 'incompatible with the printer' among others.

I also looked into the mouthpiece with the pinching mechanism that reveals jams paper, to see if there was something that I had missed and he was not.

So, I tried to move the cartridges again, this time with the printer off, that he had instructed the animation (and I didn't realize to make), and when I turned on it even once, he warned ' improper shutdown. Press the button 'walk' to avoid damage ', so I did. Now I don't know what to do.

Please help, I know you massively! The printer is my source of life.

There has been no recent software or driver changes. My internet connection is wireless.

    Thank you very much.

The removal of lubrication is probably not a big deal, I wouldn't be able to replace at this stage.  Too much lubricant on the stem of transport can attract dust and paper fibres.  If at any time given the squeeks of transport when it moves from one side to the other, I suggest to post back here with a new topic and ask for advise.  Just a very small amount of lubricant, probably, it will be very good for the life of the printer.

  • Satellite U840W - Panel open - Power On - impossible to disable

I have a U840W satellite - the display is not a lock on the end, so would be powered in a laptop bag. I was able to disable this in the Toshiba system settings tool.

However, a recent update means that even if the setting is disabled, it will always turn on when the lid is open.

Any suggestions on how to stop what's happening, or how restore a previous version of the utility that actually worked?

The same happened on my laptop, so before I put it in the bag for laptop I proceed to a complete stop.

    Thank you

    I agree with Akuma.
It s certainly one overheating and cela occurs because the internal temperature is too high. All internal devices such as CPU, GPU, are running with a yield maximum all in game and produce high heat dissipation. This increases the temperature and leads to overheating.
I think your work cooling of modules with a maximum yield don t because they are blocked.
Please check if the dust and debris affect the cooling fans and if necessary use the jet of compressed air to clean these fans.

I think this should help to prevent the notebook from overheating more specific questions.
