In El Capitan disk utility doesn't resize

Hi all

I tried to resize (external) hard drive partitioned with the renewed drive to El Capitan utility.

It was a disappointing experience.

What happened with the councelling software? It's anything but councelling.

My 2 TB drive was divided into 2 partitions, data and Time Machine two 1 TB. As already mentioned, it is an external drive, because internal 500 GB SSD is not enough. Some entries in this support site suggest that disk utility works best if you start from a USB key, but I'm sure that's not necessary when you want to repartition a drive non-bot.

I wanted to make the Time Machine smaller partition (because it safeguards only a small part of the internal SSD, 1 TB is too). After a while, I discovered that this could be done by dragging a small circle in the size you want. So far so good, after application of THE reduced my Partition of Time Machine.

After a while it was over and I tried to enlarge the data partition. This was not possible. "Slide" was on the wrong side, it could be used to reduce the data partition (and it was almost impossible to touch and not fear..) After a while, I discovered that the free space, I thought I created was actually a new partition. Delete this partition automatically enlarged the partition of Time Machine to its original size. I tried everything I could, but there is no way (I found) I could do this work.

I use the disk from the command line utility to achieve what I wanted.

Sorry, but "What you thought Apple?". This isn't what I expect of you. Please, please, deport Mr. Ivy and hire someone who knows that "beautiful!" = good job. "

Walter

TJA Walter,

Apple is niet alleen gebruikers yesterday.

I good feedback sturen aan Apple met suggesties of bugs: wordt in ieder is read, maar meestal niet beantwoord.

Friends: 'clean' dat, dat I ten koste van andere partitie (altijd) niet groter maken good tweede was er ook in of 'oude' DiskUtility.

I would friends groot mensen: when I merdere partities would is dat 'gemodder' met cirkel irritating en niet erg appreciated.

The problem started with my iMac (10.11.6) slows down. I rebooted, it worked fine for a while, and then the problem comes back. I tried three times to use disk utility, but every time it's the same thing: the start box appears on the screen, i. by "tap" first aid, then... nothing. Nothing at all. I then tried to force out the utility disk, but for some reason any Force Quit option suddenly didn't work. Everything I had was the ball Beach and the non-functioning du box. So what's happening? Virus (I have Trend Micro, but nothing is perfect)? The age?

Uninstall Trend Micro anti-virus software. It is not necessary on a Mac and is probably causing the problems you describe with disk utility.

Third party software anti-virus is not necessary on a Mac and cannot cause problems.

  • El capitan | disk utility: 'format' is missing

    Dear mac'ommunity.

You also have 'format' missing from disk on the new el capitan utility?

I wanted to fix my external drive. with googleling I discovered, I have to 'clear' the external drive and rename it. After that I should click on 'format' to set the password. but where?

    need your help! Thank you!!!

The format of the volume is selected to delete. Click on the clear button, and then choose a format. If you want to specify a password encrypted options, for example OS X Extended (journaled, Encrypted). You will then need to choose a password.

  • Disk utility doesn't work anymore?

El Capitan, is it me or you?

Have had Boot Camp with Windows 10 races, and now I'm trying to delete the partition created by the Boot Camp Assistant.

No matter what I do, its only possible to me formatting of partitions and do not remove them, which makes them not partitioned so that I can extend the OS X.

The old tool was easy and simply point and click on, but it throws a bunch of different home, errors when I try to make something simple, simple.

It doesn't matter, if I click on to disklevel and use the partition button. The partition is stuck. It was even possible for me to format it and install the OS on the new partition, but it... goes... not...... delete the old.

Am I the only one to go through this? Even trying diskutil with noformat %, will not work.

All you want to do with created partitions BootcampAssistant should be done with BootcampAssistant and NOT DiskUtility.

  • disk space disk utility

I'm really getting fed up with the OS x team. They killed another great utility in El Capitan "disk utility". Now it won't let me create disk or partition of any player images. It gives me the following error:

"(null)" doesn't have enough available space to create the 'Home' disc image file Choose a different volume at least 125,49 GB of available disk space to continue.

I intended to create the image of the score by one user profile (the user was not logged) on 2.7 TB of free space on the drive connected locally. I also tried a different destination drive (SSD) with about 300 GB of free space with the same result.

Anyone seen this before? All solutions?

They are really kill this great OS. If they continue to do so, I will give up this ecosystem in the same way I did with Microsoft 10 years.

Some time ago, they said they're going with OSX UI to iOS. If that's true, then I better start watching another OS until they completely freeze my workflow.

    Great job Apple!

Just because you don't know what you do does not mean that there is a problem with disk utility.

Hands on with disk in El Capitan utility

(El Capitan) utility disk - partitioning a physical disk

  • Disk utility will not let me click on the partition.

I've updated to El Capitan, disk utility since refuses to let me click on partition.

Accidentally, I partitioned my disk flash before I updated and so I need to cancel, because now I have 200 MB of storage on it.

I tried using terminal but I have been unable to fix this way, too.

Can someone help me with this?

    Thank you

Make sure that all your files are backed up. Accidents happen and I'd hate for you to lose all data.

Are you trying to repartition the boot disk? If I understand correctly, your hard disk is currently partitioned, and you need to recover a single correct hard drive?

You can't repair the disk hard while you use the hard disk. To get the partition on a single disk, boot from the recovery disc.

Restart the computer and press immediately on and hold command-R until you see a loading bar, and then release the keys. Once the recovery disc starts, choose your language (if it asks you to) and then again open disk utility. Now, select your hard drive and delete the extra partition. It should tell you "this will not affect your files...". "but if he says that you will lose all data, STOP. Make sure that you remove the extra partition without data on this subject. I'm guessing that it's called "Untitled 1" or something that affects unless you named it something different.

If you have several volumes on a device, and one of them is running out of space, you will be able to expand without losing the files it contains.

To enlarge a volume, you must delete the volume that comes after him on the device, and then move the end point of the volume you want to enlarge in the freed space. You cannot expand the last volume on a device. »

  • Windows 8.1 with Bootcamp installed in El Capitan. Do not delete with Bootcamp so I used the disk utility. Now, Windows always tries to start with an error, the 'other' space illustrates.

Long story short, I installed windows 8.1 using Bootcamp, went very well. I was just curious how it would go.

in any case, tonight, I decided to delete the Windows partition (Bootcamp Partition), and I got an error in Bootcamp that says "sorry couldn't do Mac OS partition a new»

With that I went to the disk utility and tried to partition the disk on a partition again, which it did, but now I have 40 GB of "other space". I literally have nothing stored on this computer, until I installed Windows 8.1 which was not there.

Also, when I start it up I always get Windows start first if I do not hold Option, then it goes to the blue screen, obviously because he's not here.

I started to recover, tried to fix it, verify, erase free space, etc.. I'm running a MacBook Pro 13 "128GB 2015.

On a Mac of 2015, the disc is divided into a group of logical volumes and Volume for OS X, and a partition for Windows. If BCA fails to restore it correctly, the part of Windows do not get properly gathered in the LVG/LV. The other questions you have, it's that there are remnants of the Microsoft your EFI partition Boot code.

To solve both, the easiest and safest method is

1 backup OSX and all of your files - use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .

    2. boot into Internet recovery (CMD + Opt + R) - OS X: on OS X Recovery - Apple Support .

    3. click on Utilties-> disk utility and erase your entire internal drive.

    4. restoration of OSX and your files - use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support .

This requires another external drive that can accommodate TM backup - backup disks that you can use with Time Machine - Apple Support .

  • Creating image using disk utility

Hi - I am trying to create an image file of and CD Audo to later burn multiple copies (I own the rights on this CD).

The process I use is to load the CD in the drive SuperDrive, open disk utility and select the disk in the sidebar (curiously, the drive itself is not there, just the disk). Can I go to file = > new Image == > Audio CD Image. Select a destination, Format: unalterable, encryption: no) and click Save.

He done much work slowly disk reading and writing of the file (Audio CD.dmg). However, if I try to open the file when it has finished, it said "no mountable file system" and if I burn it to a CD - r disc resulting almost blown my speakers with the sound. To check, I tried with a commercial CD as well - same result.

I'm doing something wrong here. He doesn't know he used to work in previous versions of the utility.

    Hello

There is a little powerful 3rd party app called 'Burn '. Older applications, it's works well in El Capitan as well. If you decide to download and install, you will need to go to preferences > Security and privacy to allow him permission to run for the first time. After that, he will not ask you again. It is simple and easy. Create .iso and burn. Create and burn data/audio CDs and copy CDs as well. There are a few 3rd party applications which are worthy of Mac, and this one is. The name of it, is once again, 'Burn '.

    Bravo!

  • Alternative to disk utility?

Disk utility El CAP is severely paralyzed.  So many things are either missing or not friendly.  I'm talking about the GUI disk utility.  I know that you can always do things in the command line (terminal).

I'm not talking about be able to check and Fix permissions.  It was convenient, but this isn't the only thing missing.  Many bases are messy.  You can't resize the window or column.  It makes you think, perhaps, that you can, because you can place the cursor and try, but it doesn't do anything!  You're stuck with a column where you don't see the full name of discs and if you have a long list, you should continue to scroll down.  It's so frustrating.  You must be able to resize these things.

When I upgraded to the start, I made the mistake of trying to partition my hard drive (I had done many times in the Mavericks all the way back to snow on another machine).  Well well, after this debacle, which yes - 'green' user error, I had to get a merger encourage education!  Without the Debug menu, you don't see all the partitions on your drive either!  The sector of partition was easier to understand the circle which bounces and is hard to even type a number in the box. It also makes those of us with CD/DVD drives to redouble efforts to do the basic things.  Thank God for a few good 3rd party apps that make it easier / simpler.

I searched around, and it seems that some people re - install Yosemite disk utility.  I am not experimenting quite that far.

So good another program essentially useless included Apple they probably let die instead of fix.

So my question: is another type of GUI utility disk program out there that can be used?  More importantly, one that works similar to the old disk utility.  Just a simple little utility app?  Any recommendation?

Please, I understand that I can get a large number of functions using Terminal Server.  But I don't want to do the things that I used to be able to do in the GUI.  Thank God, I can learn to do, but some people should not have to use the Terminal.  This is not a post on how to do a certain function.  I just want to know if anyone has found an another disk to GUI utility.

    Thank you!

Soft Software Raid, but I don't like not third. I keep a Mavericks and a volume of yosemite at hand starting and use one or the other.
