  Make sure that Firefox is installed correctly.

  Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program in the folder of the application on your hard drive.
  You should not double-click the Firefox application to run from the disk image and drag it out of the DMG file instead.

  Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most of the modules.

  That may be a problem with the DDE.

  Try to undo and redo Firefox as default browser.

  Only happened today, no changes made to the system.
  When I click on a tab, the height of the Navigation toolbar icons icon decreases to a square for half a second and then returns to the height the deeper (rectangle). What makes the page below the menu jump bar. Rather distracting.

  If you close Firefox, and then start Firefox in Mode without failure, in the problem? To start Safe Mode, go to help > restart with disabled modules.

  Firefox does not at all. Would like to remove it and reinstall, however when trying to uninstall a message pops up that I need to first close firefox!   This can help if you have had the same problem as me on the occasions.

  Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar. In the menu that appears, select "start Task Manager". Along the upper part of the "Task manager" window, select the 'process '. You will see a list of running processes. Scroll down the list until you see Firefox. Select it and press the 'end process' at the bottom right. Click 'end process' on the warning popup that appears. Firefox should disappear from the list. Now you should be able to start or to uninstall. If Firefox does not appear in the list at all so this fix is not for you. I hope this helps.
