In the notification area, volume, network and power icons have disappeared. When I go into properties, in the area of system icons the same selections are grey, when I click on them that no check mark. How to make the grey selections to become black (active), so when I click on them the check marks appear?

Try these steps and check if that helps:

** Turn it back on. Sometimes a reboot will solve this problem.* *.

1. close all programs and stop the laptop.

2. remove all power supplies (battery and power cord)

3. empty the remaining power by pressing the power on button for 30 seconds (even if you have no power).

4. put the battery back and start the computer

5. once fully loaded, right-click on the system tray and select Properties.

6. This will bring to the top of the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" dialog box. The "Notification area" tab.

7. at the bottom of the tab, is the area 'icons systems. " There is a checkbox for "Power". "check" the box and click on apply or OK.

Also update your graphics card drivers.

It works! Tanks a lot Johnny D.81!

  • Volume, network and power icons disappeared from the Notification area

For no reason that I can discern, I started today and these 3 icons are missing from the notification area. I want that they come back then I right-click the notification area, went to properties and arrived at the tab Notification area. Forthose icons 3 checkboxes are grayed out and I can't select them.  What is happening with this? Why? Anyway I can fix this?

This is the first time that this has happened and I've had my computer for 1.5 years.

  • Lack of Volume, network and power in the Notification area icon

All these icons have disappeared randomly my notification area...
I went into properties, to see if they have checked, so they go, BUT it shows that only the clock has a check mark in the box and the network, volume, and power will not let me check boxes.
    How to view again?

AHA, that's good. I restarted my computer until you sent me this link, and it worked.

  • The notification area: Volume control freezes

In the properties of the taskbar and Start Menu, the Volume/clock/network and power supply are checked to show in the notification area.  Sometimes, Windows Explorer stops responding and when it is restarted, the volume and network icons are missing from the notification area.  I can run a registry fix and sometimes retrieve the icons, other times I have to reboot to get them back (I can't get back them via the properties because they are gray).  Sometimes, only the volume control stops working.  Once again, I can sometimes get the volume control work by launching a registry fix.

Now, here is the solution I found.  If I go into the properties of the taskbar (notification area) and uncheck CLOCK, my volume control never a problem, not Windows Explorer stops working.  I can run for days without any problem of Volume or Windows Explorer.

But as soon as I'm back at the helm of the properties and turn the CLOCK on in the taskbar, my volume and Windows Explorer problems all over again.

I've renamed TIMEDATE. The CPL and the system re-create it.  The size is 698 kb (714 240 bytes).  It is identical to the one I've renamed.

Is this a known problem and is there a solution?  I'm just short without the date and time displayed in the notification area to avoid the problem, but VISTA should not have this problem.

I'm closing this.  I think I have a problem with Firefox.  Uninstalling Firefox results in days that I can run without any problem.  Firefox reinstallation the problem to reappear.  Especially, when I close Firefox, the process is still running and the parent.lock file is not deleted.  I have to restart (the icons disappear after reboot), delete the parent.lock and then restore the icons, but updating the registry (TRAYNOTIFY).  So I restart Firefox until the next shot.  I think I'll start fresh (this isn't my main PC)

    Hi, Omer,.

You are using a wired or wireless network?

This problem may occur if there is more than one wireless network set up on your computer.

If you use a wireless network, I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall the wireless network and check if that helps.

    1. Click Start and select Control Panel.

    2. open the network and sharing Center.

    3. click on manage wireless networks.

4 remove all wireless network listed in this list.

5 restart the computer and you reconnect to your wireless network.

Keep us updated on the status of the issue.
