In the opening different file types that Windows Media Player opens indicating does not support the file type or the CODEC. Why? Help, please!

AT THE OPENING OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FILES WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER OPENS INDICATING NOT TO SUPPORT THE TYPE OF FILE OR CODEC. WHY? Help, please!

If you try new types of files that WMP is not pregnant then it will warn you that they only peuvent malfunction.

I got when I started to use video files to .ts format - he warned me, and then I told him to go ahead & try anyway, so he did and they worked.

If say you your WMP to try to use the format, then you can include the results in your response to the request of zig - zag for more info - make sure to specify what types of files they are.  Note the messages you get from WMP because it will give more information that just what file extension are files - video files can be, for example, the extensions of files .ts taking video & audio formats of all kinds such as mpeg2 or mpeg4 & mp3 or ac3.

  • Windows Media Player for Vista, does not play my avi files and says he has a codec error?

Came across this problem trying to put an AVI in powerpoint presentation for the school. I don't know how this happened or how to fix the error. The error indicates that windows media player is not the right codec to play the video. However, when I sent it myself and opend it upwards on another computer, which doesn't have powerpoint, it plays very well.

I did some research as to what a codec for windows media player, that's what code and decodes the video compression. However, when I tried to download the appropriate codec file, there is nothing. Not even useful workaround solutions.

In addition, went and downloaded quicktime and it could not read the video either.

Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated. Thank you!

    Hi DaisyReaper,

Are you able to play .avi files?

You can use your favorite search engine to download and install the latest codec for Windows Media Player. Subsequently, check if you are able to read .avi files.

Note: Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • I can't sync my iPod to Windows Media Player. WMP does not recognize the iPod and I can't drag music files between them

My iPod is connected to the computer and it works fine with iTunes.  But I can't get the music in Windows Media Player to iPod.  When I try to sync in Windows Media Player, it does not recognize the iPod, and I can drag files from WMP to iTunes or the iPod.

You cannot synchronize an Apple product in itself using WMP, unless you buy a 3rd party. You must use iTunes.

  • Media Player says it does not support the file

my Media Player says that he dosnt support file for videos of children? It allows to play, but some how it used now, im dumb, what should I do to change the format so thing computers can view them again?

    Hello

If I understand correctly that you are unable to read a file through Windows Media Player, because it is an error message saying that the file is not supported. However, you could read the same file before, is this correct?

Please post information for a better understanding of the issue.

    1. What is the format of the file you are trying to read or file extension?

    2. are you referring to a file played on a CD / DVD or stored on the computer?

    3. What is the exact error code / message appears when you try to play the file?
    4. What were the recent changes of hardware or software that are performed on the computer before the question?

You can deal with this issue

    a. file corruption

    b. incorrect Windows audio Codec

    c. the file (if it is available in the Windows media player library) is moved or deleted.

To begin to solve the problem by checking the Windows audio codec and the basic settings.

    Method 1

    Step 1

Windows Media Player invalid file Error Message Format

    Step 2

Error message when you type the name of a file to play with Windows Media Player: "Cannot open file."

  • Windows Media Player in Vista does not work. Installation of Windows 7 Home Premium will fix the problem?

Windows Media Player does not work.  Impossible to use slide show programs, can not open attachments that require Media Player.  Tried to update and couldn't.  Couldn't fix it.

    Hello

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-clickguest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions

If SFC detects the main problems it can't fix you may need to borrow a Microsoft dvd vista not an acer, HP etc. recovery disk and do a repair installation

read the below tutorial on how to perform a repair installation

  • Windows Media Player in Vista does not...

I tried to access online training videos and must use Windows Media Player to watch... but it doesn't.  I tried to figure in program files so I can uninstall and reinstall but it is not listed there.  I also tried to upgrade, but it says that I have a version see more.  I did a scan on it and it found 3 bugs cleaned but NOTHING works!  How can I fix something you can't find even listed?  He isn't listed as a program, but still, I get a message saying that I have the latest version, so I can not upgrade or install another version.

In Vista, Windows media Player is part of the operating system. It cannot be unonstalled, or you can install another. He lives and dies with the system.

  • Windows Media Player volume control does not work during DVD playback.

When I play a DVD in Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center I can't adjust the volume with the volume control of the program or main Windows volume control.  Simply sound 100% flight.  It's on a HTPC connected to an A / V recevier, so the only way to adjust the sound with the volume of the receiver control.  When I play any other type of multimedia (avi, mp3, etc.) in the two WMP or WMC in the program volume control is working properly.  The interesting part is, when I play a DVD using VLC Player or Cyberlink Power DVD the volume setting in the program as well as the main Windows volume control works correctly.  This leads me to believe it's a software is not a hardware problem.  I think that WMP and WMC using the same "engine" so the same problem knocking them both.

    Other info:

    Windows 7 64-bit.

    Windows Media Player 12 version

Audio is routed to the receiver via the digital coaxial

For what it's worth, this same problem occurred with the same exact material when I'm running Vista 32 bit.

All other software is the latest version with all updates installed.

Any ideas are welcomed and appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

    -Michael P.

    Hello

Reinstall the WMP and WMC application and see if it works very well.

    1. open the Control Panel -> programs and features.

    2. click on Windows to enable or disable features in the left pane.

3 expand the multimedia features, disable Windows Media Player. Click Yes to continue, and then click OK to exit. Then restart.

Note: If you turn off your WMP, Windows Media Center will be off either. You may need to reconfigure the settings for Windows Media Center after her reactivation.

    4. open or turn off Windows features turn on again. Functionality in Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center. Turn it back on.

    5. launch Windows Media Player, initialize the program.

PS: If you turn off your WMP, Windows Media Center will be off either. This does not happen when we choose to turn off MCE.

    ·        You are able to read these files on another computer?

I have windows vista and I want to play DVDs with Windows Media Player.  Everytime I put a DVD in I get error importing disk stopped working.  Do you have troubleshooting for me?

    Suzie

    Hi SusieStevens,

    (1) if it works well before?

    (2) remember to make changes?

    (3) what is the complete error message you receive?

Put the computer to boot and then check if the problem persists

Follow step 1 in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.
After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

Important: n ' forget not to put the computer to a normal startup follow step 7 in the link
