In the Security Center window updates Windows automatic lights.

In Control Panel > system > automatic updates indicates power is on.

Hello Randy,

Tell me what shows another XP Security Center!

Check on some key Windows services using the services (services.msc) management console.
The following services may NOT be * Disabled * in the startup type.
Automatic updates
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
Cryptographic services
Remote procedure call (RPC)

You use the Start button > select RUN and type in the Run dialog box

services.msc
AMD, press OK.

They show a manual or automatic startup type.

Here are services and their startup types:

Automatic updates... Automatic
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)... Manual
Cryptographic services... Automatic
Remote procedure call (RPC)... Automatic
The system restore service... Automatic

Tell me how you are.

If all these services are displayed as I pointed out, you can make a visit to the Windows updates and you can get the updates successfully?

If not, you need fo provide details.

  • The "Malware Protection" part of the Security Center Windows has stopped working.

When I start my computer, I get an alert from my Windows Security Center that Windows Defender is disabled (it isn't) and that my anti-virus is turned off (it is not). All other sections of the pole security running OK. This problem started about 25 April 2010. I have Vista 32 bit Home Premium, I have Spyware Blaster, Windows Defender, and Ad-Aware, I was using Panda Cloud antivirus. When the problem started, I uninstalled Panda and installed AVG free. I also installed Malwarebyte s anti-malware. I have run in normal mode and in safe mode and not found anything. I also ran Windows defender. The only modification made before the surfacing of the problem was that I've updated Spyware Blaster to their new version. Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Hello Poppyw,

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers Site.

As Windows Defender features Protection actions in real-time against spyware, the problem may be due to an installation of another product that also offers anti-spyware protection.

To resolve this problem, you can perform a clean boot to determine if a background program may interfere.

To do this, please see the link below:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

You can also view the link below, provided by the software vendor with information about the installation of AVG:

  • Windows could not start service Security Center, Windows 7

I am using windows 7 ultimate in my laptop, but whenever I try to open the security service windows to open action center located on the menu to the Quick Launch bar, it generates an error message stating:

"Could not start the windows Security Center service.
    No error number.

You can try the steps below and check if the problem is resolved.

Try to manually start the service from the Services Management Console.

For the Services console type in the find field, then press ENTER. You will need to click continue if you are prompted to open the Services window.

After the opening of Component Services.
    Click: Services (Local)
At the bottom of the window there will be two tabs, click: Standard
After that will appear a list of services, including Security Center

In this window, you must locate the Security Center service do a right click it and go to Properties, select Automatic, and then click apply , then select Start.

If your Security Center turns off automatically after a few seconds or minutes, proceed as shown in the following post:
COMBOFIX WORKED FOR ME! in Windows 7
My symptoms were the same as above. Only when affecting the automatic Security Center service, and the startup, it automatically set it to homes disabled after a few seconds or more.
    This solution worked for me,
-activate the hidden administrator account by following the steps on this tutorial... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/
-Once finished activating in the command prompt, to bookmark the websites for later use and log on to Windows.
There is now an administrator option in the logon screen.
-log on to the administrator account open a browser and open this page again.
-Click on this link below and download to your desktop... http://www.combofix.org/downloadlink.php
-disable your connection and internet anti-virus software.
    -Now run combofix.exe
A window will appear and many scans will take place. It will take some time. Finally, the computer may restart. When this is the case, log back in the administrator account and Combofix will resume running for a little while. Do nothing until the log file appears automatically.
-Restart your pc and you log in Administrator account.
-now set the Security Center service back to automatic, then click on apply. Then, click on start and ok.
-Restart your PC and you can now log in to your normal user account.
Everything should work now... Well, it did for me.
If you want to disable the account again, you can do so by following the steps to disable in the link above.
After HAVING finished with "Combofix" you may have to restart your computer once more, and then go to "Security Center" again via "Component Services" and Activate and Start Security Center. This time, it will work for good.
I hope this helps and good luck!
  • Security Center and updates of Windows do not work on Vista laptop

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron with Vista 1405E.    The Security Center and Windows updates do not work.

I ran Norton Utilities to clean the registry and I deleted Norton Antivirus (completely, following the instructions from Symantec on the phone), but nothing has changed.  Any suggestions on what could be the problem?

    Thank you

Should I remove S * PERAantiSpyware from my computer?

If it is not necessarily - free SAS, but if all were fine with your computer (and it's not!), you should not have installed SAS because MSE includes a component of anti-malware.

Should I install the [definitions optional updates offered by Windows Update MSE]?

You pouvez install them but this is not necessary - assuming that MSE is installed & working properly... but I suspect that this is NOT the case!  See this FAQ: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/74e507b8-f6da-4eca-8ce7-d1aca7d3f1ba

[Microsoft] Security Essentials is related to the Security Center?

Yes. Security Center monitors the status of the firewall, automatic updates and Protection against malware (anti-virus & anti-malware; applications i.e. Microsoft Security Essentials).

Translation: Since the Security Center still cannot be permanently turned on, there is a very good chance that MSE and Windows Firewall will not work correctly - despite the fact that we have now managed to get the computer fully patched to Windows Update and despite the multi-step fix, I had to make.

In your case, there are several possible causes for this behavior:

    1. your McAfee subscription and/or your previous subscription of Norton AntiVirus may have expired before that you did something;

    2. do not run the remove McAfee & Norton tools at the right time; or...

    3. misguided use of registry cleaners.

So, what can you do about it?...

OPTION A: MSE support could be able to help you. Residents of the United States (only!) should be able to open a support incident free of charge by e-mail via this page-online https://support.microsoftsecurityessentials.com/default.aspx?productkey=morrolaunch&mkt=en-us&st=1&wfxredirect=1

Note: After selecting your option, language (e.g., English-US) and clicking the button CONTINUE, click on the EMAIL button, not the FORUM button!

OPTION B (recommended): See the poster in this thread and follow the instructions of (my) WHOLE (to the letter and in order! ) to restore your computer to a State safe & functional: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/c44429fb-3f7c-4646-8529-5a97bb3cd0eb

If these procedures are outside your technique "comfort zone" - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the local computer, reputable and independent (i.e., not a 'BigBoxStore' or Geek Squad!) computer repair shop & let them do the work.

IMHO your computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local area network (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Wish I had better news for you. Good luck!

    Hello.

I have Vista Home premium SP2, 32-bit operating system. A week ago, I received a .rar file, Avira has said has been infected. I did not open the file, I deleted, ran a complete analysis of the system and assured there was no residue. Specificities of each:
    (a) it seems that my firewall has disappeared, and specifc messages I get when trying to turn on my firewall is: "could not start the Security Center service. When I run services.msc, I am not at all a security service, all I have is a security accounts manager.
    (b) when I try to activate Defender, I get the error code 0 x 80070424. «Windows Defender encountered an error: 0 x 80070424.» The specified service does not exist as an installed service. »

I tried 5 different Microsoft its difficulty, but none have worked so far. I also tried to reinstall Windows Defender, but Microsoft said that I installed it. All updates are underway. I followed the steps in this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968002 and no. chance either. I used additional resources and tried following these steps also, but all services have already started on my system.

    Can you help me please?

Some antivirus/security products may cause this error. McAfee, Norton, Windows Live OneCare.
ThreatFire are some. What antivirus/antispyware/security products do you have on machine now? And
who have you ever on it, even if you have uninstalled them? (These leave the remains that can cause some)
    strange questions.)

No, only the security accounts manager isn't Security Center.

The next method is to restore the missing Security Center service.

    http://www.Winhelponline.com/temp/W7-wscsvc.zip

Unzip the REG file and then run it.

    Then restart.

See if this will help restore Security Center application Services.

    Hello

    ·         Are you can change the Security Center service parameter by using a different user account on the computer?

I suggest you to make sure that Windows Defender is running. Follow the below mentioned articles and check.

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: I suggest you perform the clean boot and check.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to configure the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

Method 2: If the method above is not enough, then I suggest refer you the link try the steps and check if that helps:

How to perform an upgrade on the spot on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 & Windows Server 2008 R2

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2255099

    Note:

You can back up data to an external hard drive and no CD. It is essential to back up data even if you do an upgrade on the spot.

If you are using the original computer and the new laptop image, you will need to purchase a product key to activate the copy of windows installed on the laptop.

    Hope the information is useful.

  • Cannot depend on Security Center "the Security Center cannot start."

I'm afraid that my computer may not be protected because I cannot depend on SecurityCenter, would appreciate any advice, thank you very much.

Original title: when I try to activate the Security Center, I receive a message saying "failed to start Security Center" can someone tell me why?

    Hi Bluehound,

    • Since when are you facing this problem?
    • You did changes to the computer before this problem started?
    • You have a third-party security software installed on the computer

    Step 1

First of all, check if the Security Center service is set to automatic and started. To do this follow the steps below:

    a. Click Start.

b in the start search box type services.msc and press to enter.

    (c) in the services window, do scroll down to Security Center.

    d. right-click on it and click Properties.

    e. check if the startup type is set to automatic, otherwise it is set to automatic.

    f. click on the Start button, this will start the Security Center service.

    g. click on apply and Ok.

Check if you can enable the Security Center.

    Step 2

If the problem persists, you can also try to temporarily disable third-party security software on the computer and try to check if you can enable the Security Center. If you are able to start, you can contact the manufacturer of security software and check if you need to change the settings. Later, re-enable the security software.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

    Hello

Sometimes, it is a bug that occurs, especially after installing MSE for the first time. Restart the computer and see if the Security Center successfully, then reports that you are protected by an antivirus.
