Uninstall everything except an antivirus/security program - runninng several versions (even just have installled) can cause all sorts of problems such as freezes, crashes, corruption and other things. Once done, see if the system works better.  Don't forget, most AV programs require a special and just removal tool cannot be uninstalled as other programs (or it does not work and leaves behind the remains that are causing problems).

Let's see if that helps.

Good luck!

  • In the start-up procedure, how can I remove "press ESC to access the Start Menu" when the machine hangs at the HP logo screen?

    Hello

I am running 64 Win7HP on a laptop HP dv3, processor Core 2 Duo 4 GB DDR2 Ram, 320 GB HD, just as it came out of the box when purchased directly from HP replaced EXCEPT Vista OS with 64bits Win7HP.  Machine worked fine until the LAST update of Windows, where during the reboot, I got to the HP logo screen and in the lower left corner of the screen appeared the statement (for THE FIRST TIME) "Press ESC for the Start Menu."  Pressing Esc translates into another command "press Esc...".  Break. " When you press ESC, you get a black screen until the machine goes to sleep UNLESS you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. If you press the 3 key combo, it will continue to start and brings you to the screen of your password for access and then operate nicely, until you turn off the system. So, how can I get rid of the superfluous instructions and get this thing here where he turns and goes directly to the screen of password without intermediate steps?  Restore points are long since gone for immediate access to the front last Win Update.
The answer may be simple, but until now it has escaped my low range.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Creyn1,

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.

According to the description, it looks that you are facing a problem when connecting, he would be grateful if you can answer this question in order to help you further.

Do you receive an error message or error code?

I suggest trying to boot in safe mode and check if it helps.

Start your computer in safe mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If its working fine with safe mode then put the computer in a clean boot state, then check if that helps you

Put the computer in a clean boot state and check if any third-party application is causing the problem, as the start-up boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: Once you have completed troubleshooting, perform the steps in the step 3: to reset the computer as usual.

  • How to access the start menu? F10 is ignored. ESC is ignored.

I have a HPE175z running a new installation of Windows 7 Home Premium.  I want to change the startup parameters.  When the system boots, the screen tells me that < F10 > give me access to the configuration.  F10 is completely ignored.  A message tells me later < ESC > will give me access to the Start Menu. < ESC > is also ignored.  Similarly, I have try all the keys are ignored - nothing interrupts the boot sequence.  How can I access the start menu?

The problem is that no key during the boot stopped the boot process and allowing me to enter the installation or startup configuration.  I swapped keyboards and the problem disappeared.  Apparently, the keyboard did not have during the boot sequence.

Thanks to all those who had a suggestion.

  • Cannot access anything in the Start Menu.

Original title: problems with Start Menu...

Can Hi anyone help here please... I can access is more things in my Start menu, Control Panel, My Documents. My photos, my computer etc, etc, all died in the start menu. Whenever I click to open these things I just continue to get an error report, I scanned for virus etc but the sweep came clean... Thank you... Jon T.

    Oh heck - here's what I'd do:

When the Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) is wrong (especially when right click), begin to suspect third-party add-ons explore extension.  You can also see some errors of NAT (DEP, Data Execution Prevention).  DEP errors are reported when XP will be threatened by a program and XP stops threatening program.  XP should never feel threatened by the Explorer Windows (or Internet Explorer) to less that some add-on is the cause.

Those who would be the Explorer extensions that do not belong to Microsoft.  This means that extensions that you have added.  Solution Explorer extensions are generally well and installation of certain applications will install extensions from Explorer solutions for you, give you a choice and sometimes they can be added without your knowledge when you install the new software.

Solution Explorer extensions are sometimes added as a new right-click option, you see on folders and files (like the scan of this file, open that file, play this song).

If there is something in particular that you do during exploration that you know will be the cause of the problem, which will help focus on the problem and the help that you suddenly know, when you have found and corrected.  If you can get there when you want it, make an adjustment and then there is no message the next time you don't do anything, you do, you have found and corrected.

First of all you need a way to see what modules explore you have installed now and a way to turn them off (not uninstall them) so you can understand that we are at the origin of the problem.  You can have a lot of extensions not installed Microsoft don't even know you about.

Download ShellExView here to see what Explorer extensions you have loaded:

    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/shexview.html

ShellExView does not install anything on your computer, simply of runs and displays.

After you launch ShellExView (shexview.exe double click) and acknowledge the security warning, adjust the column widths, so you can see everything clearly.  Under Options, choose "Mark non-Microsoft Extensions" and extensions not Microsoft will be pink, clear, but on some systems, which is a difficult color to see, so click on display, choose the columns and move up or move down in the column of Microsoft is narrower upwards (Mount) so you can see on your screen without having to scroll left and right.

Click on the header of column called Microsoft to sort display (by clicking on the column heading in Microsoft) then all the non Microsoft extensions are at the top and easy to see.  They will say 'No' since they are not Microsoft extensions.

Non-Microsoft extensions would be things you have added (non-Microsoft) and are what you should be suspect.

You can also Google the name of a suspect add-on and see if there is any success on the mistakes of the DEP and what other people have done about it.

    You can Google something like:

    Explorer XP crashing

You must complete your suspect on behalf of adds on.

See what kind of search results hits you get and are looking for solutions or situations that sound like yours.

I'm not a defender of trial and error, but I can't think of another way to do...

Right click and disable the non Microsoft extensions one at a time (or maybe in small groups of 3-5), keep a list, so you can enable them again later if you wish. The result of the change is immediate and no reboot is necessary.  Test your failure condition.  If the Explorer starts to act normally, you'll know that some extension you just disabled in this group of 3-5 is the culprit, then you can start to enable them one by one until the Explorer fails again.

If you recognize all the extensions that have been added or recently downloaded, start with these first.

Disabling the extension does not uninstall the extension - it is just disabled.  You can always enable it later, so keep track of things by writing them down.

Disable them one at a time or in small groups (to make things go faster) until your right click does not generate an error, and then restart and try again.  You have disabled the last extension would be suspicious.

You can also disable all non-Microsoft extensions, restart, test your fault condition and allow them one at a time until you find the one that generates the failure condition.

If you have a large number of extensions, you can disable them is small groups, 3-5 at a time instead of 1 at a time until your system starts to behave.  When it does not, you will know that the problem is one of the extensions of this small group and you can enable members of the Group at a time until the problem returns, then the problem is with the last extension that you enabled.

The hope is that you will find extensions that is causing the problem and then you can figure out what on this subject - either uninstall it or see if you can get an update of the author of the extension of their web page.

I have not your problem, but I can when you toggle extensions, the extension is immediately disabled, so disable an extension does not seem to require a restart, but if you think that you have found the problem, I reboot and repeat the test in any case to be sure the problem disappeared.

If you post your non-Microsoft extensions list, maybe someone will recognize it as a potential problem.

If you find the offending extension that's the problem, please let us know what it is that I can add to my list!

  • Cannot access Internet and all programs on the start menu. How to get rid of a virus on windows xp

I was recently given a hand computer (compaq I tthink) so I'm not clear about all the fancy stuff to the extent of the ect CPU... but I know it has windows xp pro. in any case, a friend used my computer and for some reason any felt the need to download a program called 7-zip. Now, my computer is screwed... In the start menu > all programs, everything has disappeared! And I can access the system restore in normal boot and safe mode, but the window remains empty, we never really gave me the opportunity to use it. Oh and I can't get online in normal or safe boot mod either, what can I do?

Original title: how to get rid of a virus on windows xp proremove a virus from windows xp pro

    Hello

    1. Why do you think that the computer is infected with the virus? See you pop - unwanted ups or odd behavior of all programs?

2 have you made any changes to the computer before the show?

    3. did you run any online scanners to remove infections?

    4. What is the antivirus installed on the computer program?

Method 1: Run a scan antivirus on your computer.

    www.Microsoft.com/Security/Scanner

Note: If infections are detected during the scan, there is a risk of data loss because infected files will be deleted.

Method 2: Safe mode with networking

Step 1: Check if you can browse the Internet with success in Mode safe mode with networking.

Networking Mode safe mode starts Windows in mode safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

A description of the options to start in Windows XP Mode

Step 2: Put the computer in a State of boot is a way to know which application is causing this problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

Step 1: Follow the steps in the link below to do the same thing:

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as shown here:

Step 2: To configure Windows to use a Normal startup state

After you have used the boot is a way to solve your problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    1. Click Start and then click Run.
    2. Type msconfig and click OK. The System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.
    3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.
    4. When you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

    Method 3:

Create a new user account and verify if you are able to access the program in the start menu.

Try to connect with a different user has administrator rights account and then create a new user account.

For more information, see these links:

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot access the Start Menu - 6 Ultra

I realize there are other threads on this problem but mine is a little diiferent.

I just replaced memory in both my Ultra 6 s. The steps were:

    Ultra unit has

    Deletion of records

    New memory installed

A run the memory test (past)

    Replacement discs

    Fact

    Ultra B

    Deletion of records

    New memory installed

Could not access the Start Menu to run a memory test.

Shared memory of unit A and B of the unit (with 'good' memory)

Could not access the Boot Menu

Blank placed in drive B and turned on.

Could not access the Boot Menu

    Disk spent

Has started doing a factory reset to unit B

I pulled the plug when I saw "pending RAIDar.

So it seems to B unit works fine except that I can't access the Start Menu.

I guess that the reset button does not work on Unit B or is it possibly caused by something else?

    Here is my MAIN question:

What should I expect when I put the original disks to unit B?

I noticed that Studio B was assigned to a new IP address, so I'm a little unsure of what to expect.

Ah, that could be just a bad reset button.

  • Weird black/window box after commissioning; "Explorer has stopped working". Error messages; Do not click on some things in the start menu; several McAfee icons in the lower sidebar...

    Where oh where can I start?  When I start the computer, my office is always in the background, but there is a pop up looking for black box thing.  There are no long enough for me to read what it says.  Something about system/Windows32 (not full title), then past to something else, even once too fast to read, disappears.  Then a window that says;

    • Online: 223

    • Error: 1% is not not valid Win32 SENSITIVITY
    • Code: 0

There is an option to run a 'this page with a script' or something to that effect.  If I choose Yes or no is not serious.

    Under this window is another

    "Runtime error!"

    Program:C:\ProgramFilesCyberLink\PowerDVDDXL\PDVPDXSrv.exe

Application has requested the execution in an unusual way.

On my sidebar on the right low in McAfee Ms red with white background icons, many of them until I sweep (no click) with the cursor.  They will disappear after the scanning, but then return.

When I click on Explorer or the window will Flash quickly on and outside, or should I get the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working".

I can get on explore if I disable all add-ons.  But it won't let me check yahoo IND. e-mail messages.

When I try to go to things in the start menu that look like we can help him, I'll either get the error messages or off quick flashes of a window.  When I went into Control Panel, nothing happens when I click on the icons.

When I went into the System Configuration. then click on services there are things that say that they are arrested.

    Hello Halima S,.

Thank you for your response.  I was checking things until I found your answer.  Do not be alerted via hotmail.  Somewhere in my files McAfee "View Log" I found that I was 'ping '.  What is crazy?  In the files for seven times in a row from 09:30-09:34 "SystemGuards have allowed a moment change on your computer."  Should I try to mess with this before that I have use the above tips or try your advice first?

    See you soon.

  • In Windows 7, after the application of SP1, I can no longer access my phone book from the start menu or use the search function.

I just applied SP1.  Until I applied this update that everything worked as I expected.

Since then, whenever I type anything in the search on the start menu, there is no result.  The only exception to this is that if I type in a full path, for example "C:\Program Files\", how I get a list of files in that directory.  If I type in everything that is not a path, as for example the letter p or the word 'paint', told me that "no element not corresponding to your research."

If I click 'more results', I get an error with a big red x box.  The legend is "search query: = paint", for example if I searched for painting.  The text is "Windows cannot find ': search query = painting '.»  Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. "I wasn't expecting this error box, but rather a window with a list of search results.
I have downloaded and run the troubleshooter of research - Mats_Run.search.exe.  It tells me that no errors have been detected and gave me the option to reset the search.  I did this, then waited a whole day to search for re - index, but the results are the same.
In addition, after reading a few other questions on the microsoft Web site, I've done different things which seem to as they should not work - I have turned me folder, active random registry settings options, etc..  Indeed, none of these things had an impact or shows something unusual.
Also, I can access is no longer my home directory from the start menu.  If I click on my user name that appears in the upper right corner of the menu start, the start menu closes and nothing happens.
There are a few other circumstances where I can't reach my directory.  For example, if I have an Explorer pointed toward a library, say "Downloads", if I click on my user name in the breadcrumb path, he will remain in the directory downloads instead of going to my home folder, as I expect.  Also, if I click on my user name in the Favorites list in the left pane of the Explorer, I would expect the Explorer window to access my home folder.  Instead, he remains in the folder where he currently resides.
As I said earlier, before applying the update it worked as expected.
Thanks a lot for your time!
