in win7 - how can I tell what guard disable my firewall?

using windows fire wall and turned on the fire wall - something is turn it off, click on warning and it turns back-what could be turning it off?

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply.

Look in Event Viewer for events related to the Windows Firewall. If it stops on its own there is probably something there connected to this subject.

What are the information contained in the logs of the event (Event Viewer)?

Kind regards

  • How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 upgrade copy corresponds to?

A few years back, one of my friends gave me his old computer running Windows 7.  I just had to replace the motherboard and processor on it, and when I went to reinstall Windows, I learned that the CD Win7 key he had corresponded to a Windows 7 upgrade version.  From what I could tell, I need to install an older version of Windows first, and then use the upgrade CD to return to Win7.  I installed Windows XP Home Edition and I tried, but the CD Win7 said that I had the wrong version of Windows to upgrade.  I installed Windows Vista and got the same thing.  How can I tell what version of Windows my Win7 update of that CD will modernize?

    Thank you!

Looks like the copy of Windows 7, you were trying to install from Windows XP Home Edition is a 64-bit version.

You will need to boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:
    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

How can I tell what version number of Medica Player I have in my PC.  My PC is configured to update automatically.  When I clicked on the 'ownership' of my Windows Media Player ted, it was created on 11 August 2011.  This means that I have the latest version (#12?) in my PC?

    Hi eaumng,

Launch windows media player, right-click on an empty space in the lower right of the media player, hover over or select help and 'media player' and that should bring up a page on the drive media of which version you are running. If you OS is xp sp3, you probably #11 is installed, and it is the most updated for XP version.

  • ESX 4.0 - how can you tell what physical NIC vswif is linked to?

    Hi all

Noobie question here, but how can you tell what NIC card connected to the service console? We have ESX server with 6 NIC cards on all of them and I need to be able to say what NIC is the service console. I googled my brains but no luck. esxcfg-vswitch - l does not show what NIC is on, because, I guess, we lack vCenter.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

network ESXTOP statistics may display a vswif-> vmnic relationship...

  • How can I tell what drive installed on firefox?

I use a fairly small SSD as my drive "C:". It contains the Windows files and it is, but I don't want to install all my programs on this drive. That's what concerns the second disc of 1Terabyte.

During the installation, how can I tell Firefox to install on the second hard drive?

Yes, you can select custom during installation Setup. But the vast majority of Firefox (wise disk space) will be the user / "roaming" area folderset on the same drive that the operating system is installed on – C: / drive. This is the default zone for the Firefox profile.

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/profiles-where-Firefox-stores-user-data

After installation, you can create a new profile on a different drive for your data Firefox and customizations.

    https://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/Profile-Manager-create-and-remove-Firefox-profiles

Before using chose the file to a custom location, you must create the folder and select this specific folder when you create the new profile. If you don't accidentally use the root folder, you risk losing everything on this disc, you will need to use an empty folder when you specify where you want the new profile.

And once you create the profile, in the custom location, do not "clean" what remains on the c: / drive from the original installation. You will need the file profiles.ini so that Firefox knows where your profile 'in service' folder

  • How can I tell what video card will be compatible?

Hi, I think I need a new video card, but I don't really know what the new card will be compatible with my computer, a m9077c of HP that works with Vista.I see there a Nvidia Geforce 8500 gt in there now, but looking for new to buy, I see things like (86JYAHG PVT XFX GEforce 8500 GT 450 mhz 512mbgddr2svideo/dvi/vga/pci-express16) for $35 , but then I just see alongside plain old GEforce 8500 gt for $111. What is the difference? I want just a replacement, it doesn't even have to be of the same brand, as long as this will work as well or better. How can I say that it will be compatible?

    You are the very welcome.

Make sure you first uninstall the drivers for your card current video and then instead of restarting the PC, stop it and install your new card.

Please post back and let us know how you like your new video card.

  • How can I tell what programs DEP closes?

I'm not computer savvy, but when I'm in my email in IE8 DEP ends frequently.  How to find the root of the problem?

    Hello

    ·         What email are you using?

    ·         What web browser you use to view the mail?

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. For more information, see:

    What is Data Execution Prevention?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-is-data-execution-prevention

Try the following methods and check the status of the issue.

    Method 1:

See the section "How can I prevent DEP from closing a program that I trust" in the link mentioned below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/data-execution-prevention-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 2:

You can also try tuning off DEP and check if it helps.

    Change Data Execution Prevention settings

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/change-data-execution-prevention-settings

    Method 3:

I also suggest you to download and run the latest Microsoft Scanner on your computer and check to see if it helps:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Hello

    read this on the engraving in the mastered Format;

    Burn a CD or DVD

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/burn-a-CD-or-DVD

Burn a disc using the ISO image format

Choose the size of the ISO image when you need a highly compatible disc that will play in computers with an older version of Windows or in devices such as CD and DVD players that can play video files and music digital. For more information about choosing a disc format, see which CD or DVD format should I use?

    1. Insert a writable CD or DVD CD writer or DVD in your computer.

    2. In the dialog box that appears, click on burn the files to a data disc.

    3. In the engraving, a disc dialog box, type a name for this disc, and then click Show formatting options.

    4. Click on ISO image, and then click Next.

      An empty disc folder opens.

    5. Open the folder that contains the files to burn and then drag the files into the empty disc folder.

    6. In the toolbar, click on burn to disc.

The selected files are copied to the disk. When burning is complete, the drive tray opens and you can remove the drive. You can now use the disc in another computer or media. This type of disc has no need to be closed.
