In XP, why can't see a hard drive in the list of workstation?

I have a hard drive that can be seen in the devices, but also computer management/disk management Manager. But the drive does not appear in the list of workstation hard drives.

The spooky part is under run cmd, the drive appears and I can Dir list its contents.

Hi Heenanjc,

  • It is an external hard drive or an extra hard drive connected to the computer internally?
  • What is the drive letter assigned to the drive in disk management?

I would say lets you assign a new drive letter of the drive or change the drive letter of your disk management drive and check if it helps you to solve the problem and if you view it in the window of the computer.

To assign or change the drive letter in disk management follow the steps below:

a. open computer management by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel , clicking system and security by clicking administrative tools and then double-click computer management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

(b) in the left pane, click Disk Management.

c. click on the drive you want to change and then click on change drive letter and paths.

d. do one of the following:

·        To assign a drive letter if it has not already received, click Add, click the letter you want to use, and then click OK.

·        To change a drive letter, click on edit, clickAssign the following drive letter, click the letter you want to use, and then click OK.

·        To remove a drive letter, click on remove and then clickYes to confirm that you want to delete.

Access the link below to learn more about changing the drive letter.

    Hello

    Thanks for asking!

This is because the network discovery is turned on.

If you want, I suggest try tuning off the COAST of the discovery of the network and check if it helps.

    Enable or disable network discovery

  • I can't see my hard drives partition more :-/

    Hello

I can see is no longer a partition that I had on an external drive. I know that this probably isn't the best thing to do, but I had a backup time machine on this partition (such as one on my hard drive to the Mac).  I think I've ejected the drive not correctly once, and since the partition of time machine no longer appears

Disk utility does not launch or that hard drive is plugged so I can't reformat it even :-/

If anyone knows any more options?

    Thank you very much

    Nick

You can try to disconnect your external drive, reboot into Recovery Mode (command-R), and OS X Utilities launch disk utilitymenu, connect your external drive and see if you can format.

I purchased Drive Genius 4 OWC (Macsales.com) and had something similar happens where I could see all the partitions on the external drive but could not repartition or delete one of them. With Drive Genius, I was able to repartition and format. So, you might need a 3rd party app like Disk Warrior and Drive Genius (trial download) to manipulate your external drive.

  • Can I add a hard drive on the U840T-108 Satellite?

    Hello
I bought a Toshiba Satellite U840T-108 and I had not noticed that there was a 128 GB SSD drive. I would like to add 1 to or 500 GB Sata hard drive.
Is this possible? T Y is the room in the computer?
    Thank you
PS: I'm French so excuse me if I speak little English.

I can see in paper manuals s user that your machine is not the cover of HARD drive on the lower side, so for an upgrade low cover has to be removed and it must be done by the only authorized service.
If you try to do this alone you will lose warranty valid.

In my opinion, you have to call the nearest provider of Toshiba in your country, explain the situation and ask for advice. Guaranteed valid is very important to not do something on your own.

Either way, I think your machine has connector disk HARD vacuum placed near the ventilation of cooling. I m not 100% sure all of this, but you can check with the technicians.

  • You can use an external hard drive with the Mac Mini?

I've seen videos that say that we cannot increase the ram on a min of Mac, but I'm curious if this works like an ordinary computer, if we can attach an external hard drive to store some of the memory to free up space. Sorry if this is something stupid just need to know what I can do with it.

You can use an external hard drive to boot and run with any Mac. Its not going to improve or replace your ram. If you use a mechanical hard drive in any Mac then help and boot from an external drive, especially if it's a SSD will be significantly faster.

  • Can I install second HARD drive in the Satellite A200-AH7

I wonder if I can install the second hard drive in my laptop and if I can do this what equipment should I.

Laptop computer has two covers of hard disk and manual is not clear on this subject.
    He said: some models.

    Thanks for the info

You can't find the answer very easily.

Remove the second HDD Bay cover and check if there are a few HARD drive connectors/pins.

If Yes, then you could install a second HDD.
If not, you can not use second HARD drive.

    Good bye

  • Can I use 2 hard drives on the Satellite A200-1YX

Hello, who knows if it can work 2 hard drives on the A200 1YX.
In the manual is written there are 2 locations for hard drives, but it says that for some models of Satellite A200.

Can I use 2 HDD on Satellite A200-1YX?

As mentioned by user above, different Satellite A200 series are present on the market.
Some supports 2 hard drives and some as a single HARD drive.

But both series are equipped with a second Bay I recommend you simply remove the cover plastic that holds the second HARD drive Bay and check if the HARD drive connectors are available.

    Good bye

  • You can a second Sata hard drive in the M series?

    Hello

Can I install a second hard drive in the M series?

In particular, I would like to install a Seagate Barracuda SATA 1 TB drive.

I know he has a Bay, but I can shelter the disc in another case.

    Thank you

I think it depends on the version of the m series that you have.

the series m72e (small footprint); There is only a single 3.5 "sata bay.

on the motherboard there are 3 sata headers (cd player / hard drive + 1 other).

the way I did it was to order a double silverstone 2.5-online adapter disk 3,5 '' screwed into the slot of the drive (be careful; not all Player cards have lower fastening screws).

This allowed me to put a ssd 2.5 "and a 2.5 hard drive" in the case.

otherwise, it would be pretty tight/impossible to squeeze in 2 size 3.5 "hard drives in the m72e

  • Can't access 2nd HARD drive on the Pavilion p6220nl?

I had installed a second HDD SATA in my Pavilion p6220nl desktop computer by unplugging the DVD/CD player with its SATA data and power cables.  He succeeded and I was using my regular hard drive so my new drive to HARD drive for several weeks.

Once my new SATA cable arrived, I tried to reinstall my DVD/CD player that I had also only 2 SATA power connectors.  Instead I tried to use very low power for the new HARD drive connector.  Result, I can not access my new HARD drive.  I tried back (i.e. unplugged my DVD/CD drive again and using this SATA power connector instead) and it still won't go.

I updated my BIOS and tried everything I can think of, but without success.  If anyone can help?  Is there indeed a Molex Pin 4--> adapter SATA connector?  Could I have ruined my new HARD drive with the two small connector and power cables attached SATA power connector?  Is there a specific SATA ports they need to go in.

    Currently the situation is now:

SATA Slot 0 - drive DVD/CD (data cable connected only)

1 - usual HD SATA connector

SATA connector 2 - new HARD drive

    Slot SATA 3 - empty

    Appreciate any advice or assistance.

    Thank you

    Stephen

As you said, you had it working. Then attached a unknown thread on the disc. Now, reconnect to a wiring known, that worked. Don't know, don't worry. The car was damaged. Sorry!

  • Can I use two hard drives in the Qosmio G40-10th

Anyone know if it is possible to install two hard drives in this laptop. I read simewhere that it had to be two slots hard drive in it?
If so where is it located?
Ther would be all issues around extra heat that could be generated etc.?

I have had mine for about 5/6 months and have had a screen replaced (defective backlight).
Many other people have had problems?

I wonder if its worth buy the extended warranty.

    See you soon.
    Sunil

    Hello

As far as I know this laptop takes support only a single HARD disk.
Check the underside of the laptop. Do you see a second slot (cover) the second HDD?
I imagine that it has a single HARD drive Bay, and so only a single HARD disk can be used.

I m not a G40 owner and, therefore, I cannot comment on any other issue.
But each computer technology may start to malfunction it is why I always recommend buying an extended warranty.

    Best regards

  • Qosmio G20 - XP doesn't see second HARD drive, but the BIOS is

    Hello

Mylène for the long post - but think if give good info, I poss of correct answer:

After the crash of QOSMIO G20... managed to reinstall of XP Recovery DVD-ROM. Immed after, looked at the config with Win Explorer and two hard drives all present and correct. even copied a picture of my images on the D: drive, just to make sure that all aok.

Then downloaded SP3 and tried to install - it reported failure and then shut down the PC. After attempts to get again - until finally resorted to reuse the Recovery DVD-ROM.
Come back XP again - but now, while the BIOS sees two hard drives (reports size, Fab details, etc.), as far as Windows is concerned, it does not exist.

Tried to initialize in disk management - no sign there.
He was then released, put it in a shopping cart, connected to the office and initialized and formatted - then returned to mobile... zilch!

Your kind suggestions and recommendations could save just the remaining strands terrified of hair of a violent end...

    A lot of TIA
    Logis

    Hello House,

Normally, if the BIOS recognizes the HARD drive, but not Windows, this means that the HARD disk is not formatted, but it must be visible under the Windows disk management.
    You see it now?

If not it is not easy to say what the reason are you should try load default settings in the BIOS and save it. Then start Windows and check if HDD is visible there too.

In the worst case, it s that a malfunction of the HARD disk controller, but what you can test if swap you the two drives and put them in another location.

  • Satellite P200-1EE I can install a 2nd hard drive in the Bay of spare?

    First of all, Hi everyone!

I have the laptop model above, and he has a spare drive Bay. There are connectors for pins at one end, but it doesn't seem like the drive will fit. It's like there's a missing - like component case Connector for the 1st disk slot. I bought a 500 GB drive and tried to see if he would be in shape. The 1st disk has a metal basket attached, and who does not.

Is it possible to install a 2nd drive for this model? If so, what would need to do?

    Thank you!

    Andy

    Hello

If you have a connector in the second HARD drive Bay, you can add a second HDD. But you will need a wire basket as on the first HARD disk. Therefore, you can contact an authorized service provider because you can get all the parts on their part.

On the Toshiba site Web is a list of all ASP s, check it!
