  Have you ever received the message "Incompatible print cartridge"? This may be caused by defective cartridges, dirty cartridge contacts, or by using the wrong cartridges for your printer or the region.   MacBook Pro. I recently installed Lion (10.7.2). All the drivers are up to date.

  The steps in this troubleshooting page can help solve the problem.  Also check the transport to make sure that the spring x-bias is not dislodged.  If the spring became dislodged (1) and punctured the flex circuit (2) the printer will require repairs.

  The problem is now resolved, but in an unexpected way. Make your answer that there is no "quick fix" decided the glance to the software via... Windows Explorer > My Computer > c drive > programs > HP and everything by browsing files spotted a title 'Chrome', remembering that, among other things, I had recently uninstalled Google Chrome, reinstalled it and WOW! the printer now works thanks for that it was your interaction that led this research. However, it raises another question - how can I remove Chrome and does not affect the printer?

  If you bought the printer in an area and moved to a new area, you must call customer service to ask a "regionalization Reset." Avoid any accusation to this effect; It is covered under the warranty of the cartridge. You will need to have access to your computer and printer then on line with HP. You will also need to have a set of cartridges for the new region, once completed reset cartridges of region of origin no longer works. See the document on regionalisation.

  In general when you get an "Incompatible cartridge" error, it is caused by the contact in the computer and on the cartridge do not, touch or filled because or reconditioned, ink was used. In rare cases, it may be because the cartridge is bad. The document below will take you through a few steps to work on the problem. If this does not work, try using a different cartridge.   I have a HP officejet printer 7580 all-in-one with the error message "the following ink cartridges appear to be missing or damaged. Magenta (M) "I followed the instructions on the HP site troubleshooting, first changing the magenta cartridge, clean the electrical contacts on the print head, then replace the printhead and I still get the same error message.» I then removed the cartridge yellow and still only had the same error message about the magenta cartridge, even after restarting the printer. In my view, that it must be a problem with the software or the chip of the computer on the printer itself.   Looks like you did a lot of troubleshooting for the cartridge error number.  The areas of print head and cartridge are separated in the OJ series L7580 printer, so the effect print head not this error.  The error comes from the electrical contact with the cartridge in question, appears magenta of the post.

  Follow the steps described in the document, found here, to solve the problem and determine if the error comes from the cartridge or the electrical system internal printer.

  Usually the cartridge get dried out and needs replaced. The sensor are more readable by the printer.

• counterfeit printer cartridge error

  I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 has more and I used a printer cartridge not compatible HP.  Since doing so, I get this error message on the display (counterfeit cartridge).  I have since uninstalled and reinstalled the software as well as to replace the cartridge with a brand HP cartridge and I still get the message.  Is this a quick fix or do I have to take it somewhere to the service?

  Thanks for your reply.  Although the reset info you provided has been helpful, I went out and bought real and installed HP cartridges.  The printer is cylcing and head cleaning and I have not seen the error message since then.
