Information on desktop virtualization

I'm stuck, I just press my work place and apparently Headquarters came with something new and installed IPVPN to access the main site.
unfortnately, we are not allowed to access the internet if we are on the network IPVPN, so I created a VMware Server and installed XP for them, the host computer is connected to 2 networks, without gateway's private network AND the public internet.

This allows virtual machines to access local resources on the local network, which is connected to the IPVPN and also access internet related services.

the problem now is that VMWARE server appears horribly SLOW! OMG I hate that!, so I looked into Microsoft VDI and RDS. VDI seeems too complicated, so I will not RDS by using Windows server 2008 with CAL for each user.

I need advice if RDS is the right way? users must connect to the Server 2008 using RDP and desktop access environment where they can access their emails etc...

Just a quick note this for only 20 people up to what must I do, to minimize costs and WITHOUT having to manage virtual desktps for users

  • vSphere license office with view or other desktop virtualization platform

I remember in earlier versions, you could buy VMware View and get the free hypervisor/vCenter on the purchase of VMware View.  Is someone can confirm if I remember well on older versions, and while it is still true in View 5.1.1?

Also, I think you could buy vSphere Office using one per usage fees (I thought it was 10 blocks) and get the hypervisor and vCenter, even if you use a different desktop virtualization platform.  Can anyone confirm if this is still available - and where can I get more information?

    Thank you!

This document should give you what you need.  The document says 5.0, but AFAIK, it applies to the 5.1 too.

  • Quest Desktop Virtualization (vWorkspace) user profile management issues

Hi, I work on the configuration of the user profile with (Win 7 VDI) virtual desktop management service following the guide of vworkspace administrator 7.6 and any other docs, I found on quest.com and I have a problem with it, there is nothing in the file metaprofiles\global. It doesn't seem to work. I have a file (vdi-storage1) server with action c:\vdiuserprofiles\ created folder where the profile will be stored. I also installed the role of vWorkspace on this file server user profile management and the service is running. 5206 port is open. All the virtual desktops have pntools installed with all the options and I can see that the user profile agent is running. I can reach the storage server (vdi-storage1) using telnet on port 5206 and ping. I even gave domain user full ntfs permissions to the c:\vdiuserprofiles folder, but I don't think that this is necessary.

-In the Managment Console > resources > (right click 'properties') user profiles

-General: Compression: low, log level: detailed, Refresh: 5 minutes

-Storage servers: server name: vdi-storage1, Basic file: c:\vdiuserprofiles\metaprofiles, Folder Global: Global, The TCP Port: 5206

-Silos: name: VirtualDesktopSilo, storage for the user profile server: vdi-storage1

    -Properties VirtualDesktopSilo

-Members: name: desktop Windows 7, Type: computer group

    - Storage for the user profile server: vdi-storage1

    - Automatic backup: 30 minutes

The MC did create the folder metaprofiles\global automatically when I applied the settings. I use supplied with vworkspace default registry keys, and I attributed them to the domain users group. I recorded several times power on and off on the virtual desktop. I noticed 5 second delay on the virtual machine after that I typed the information identification, and before she really connects me since I activated the profile management. A I forgot something or is misconfigured it?

OK, after having received assistance from Dell (Quest) suppor, t the issue happens to be with me remoting (via RDP) for VM directly instead of by the intermediary of the broker vWorkspace, therefore the profile could not be created because I had not the closed valid session so it never created the profile. Once I've tested it using vWorkspace connector this worked.

  • Desktop Virtualization Solution

    I am currently looking for a solution for a customer specification. my client has expressed an interest in vmware. as I am new to vmware, I would like to know what would be needed to virtualize the following scenario;

2 x servers running various applications (domino, Sage ect...)

my client has expressed that the solution must be "crash proof".

Also, as a separate solution, they would like to virtualize 70 clients (remote and local). VMView is what I'm looking for here, my question is if for some reason that my client chooses another virtualization vmware server view allows to virtualize the desktop environment? and if so what products would be required to support just vmview? with physical hardware required

I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong place.

    Kind regards

    David

It should work but don't forget essentials has a limit of three hosts.  The best thing to do would be to get your workload statistics to determine how many ESX host you will need.  At this point, you can choose the right license model for the company.

  • Smartphones from blackBerry Desktop Manager version 4.7 error Code 0 x 80040057

During the synchronization between the version of Desktop Manager 4.7 and my curve (my first old BB for 1 week and love it) I get the error message 0 x 80040057.  This happens after trying to synchronize my contacts.  I tried to find a list of error codes on the original CD, as well as online, but I just blank.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  My other questions were answered until looking at just the past assignments.

Google applications are today quite powerful.
You can use Google Mail and Google Calendar and synchronize e-mail, contacts, and events of the calendar with your BlackBerry smartphone.

Some people prefer a PIM (personal information manager) desktop.

You can use Desktop Manager to backup the contents of your device.

  • Virtualization on ESXi

I am currently evaluating different hypervisors to see that best meets my needs and would be very happy of all advice on how well ESXi can manage desktop virtualization scenarios.

    1. What is the free ESXi 5.x support the virtual graphics card 3D edition? Or is this feature only available in the paid editions of vSphere?
    2. What are some good ways to access a virtual machine intended to be used in a virtual office? The "Console" tab in vSphere Client will work? Or y at - it another software that must be installed on the client computer? The reason I ask is because Remote Desktop and VNC both provide a poor user experience.
    3. What is the experience of virtual desktop with Microsoft RemoteFX? Also, how is it compared to the (local) virtual machines running on the desktop or from the merger?

Finally, it is not directly related to virtualization, but VMware maintains a list comparing the features available in each edition, including the free edition? There is a list comparing the paid editions (vSpherecompare the editions of server & amp; amp;) Virtualization in the data center. United States), but I have no idea how these editions stack against the free edition (or to put it another way, what I won't have access to by going with the free edition instead of the paid editions).

    1. Graoucs 3D acceleration support is a feature of view VMware Horizon and this requires that a licensed version of ESXi.You can learn more here - http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vmware-horizon-view-graphics-acceleration-deployment.pdf. If you do not need 3d graphics, you can still use the free version of host virtual dekstops.
    2. VMware View horizon is designed for virtual desktops, and provides methods for accessing virtual desktops based on the AD for authentication. If you are just looking for workstation virtual host, you can use the vSphere client but I would not recommend using the vSphere client as access method that this will put a burden on your host ESxi the preferred method would be to use RDP to access virtual desktops. I'm surprised your had a below-normal with VNC and RDP performance both in my experience have worked well.
    3. There are a number of factors that affect the end-user experience particulalry resources available to the hypersiro and the number of virtual desktops - my experience if the environment has been properly size the experience will be entirely satisfactory. Comparable machines, virtual office accommodation on ESXi will offer a more enjoyable performance.

This document will provide some of the differences between the free version and the paid versions - http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf.

  • GPU & new server virtualization

I'm trying to spec'ing new hardware to a server virtualization for the House. decied on ESXi for the operating system.

Some graphics intensive games will be on the clients windows and some on linux hosts.

as for a graphics card, when my notebooks connect to one of the guests a really good graphics card can be used by guests and so well through the remote access?

    Hello

The VM on the server and will not profit from your host graphics card. This is true for display or vSphere environments.

You will need to connect to this server through a protocol. RDP and PCoIP if you also "VMware View", HDX (if the XenDesktop user). In all these cases, 3D games are not a good option. It is true that for version 5 of VMware View, 3D graphics ARE supported, but think that it's a support for Windows Aero style office and not for 3D games. I've seen some implementations of positions of work intensive virtualized Autocad but with very specific, very expensive servers... but again, 3D games can be even more demanding than Autocad.

Bottom line is, even when your Hypervisor technology is able to use all your GPU acceleration and technology, you don't have a way to connect to this virtual machine and consume all this title... at least not with virtualization I know.

There are high-performance protocols to connect to desktops and maybe that's what you use... but then again, no virtualization. For example:

    http://h20331.www2.HP.com/hpsub/cache/286504-0-0-225-121.html

I heard that Teradichi works in a hardware card to improve graphics performance, but nothing available right now.

XenDesktop claims to be able to use a part of the end unit GPU acceleration, it sounds good, but when I tried it... well... no REAL advantage and same limitations as with the other tecniques of desktop virtualization.

    Hope that helped you...

    Kind regards

  • Installed Windows 10, now Word opens and then closes immediately

When I installed Windows 10 my screen flashed constantly. Rectified that by disabling "Problem reports and Solution Control Panel" and "Windows Error Reporting Service". But now, when I tried to open my "word" it just opens and then closes immediately.

You mean Microsoft Office Word? This forum is for Mozilla software like the Firefox browser and the Thunderbird e-mail software.

While we are not very well informed on desktop applications, I found a Microsoft article on the use of "repair" which may help:

  • Installation of windows 7 with bootcamp

In discussions with Apple Support technicians, I was led to believe that the MacBook Pro machines supported Windows 7 and above. However, when trying to install Windows 7 with Bootcamp Assistant, I learned that Windows 7 is not supported and I must have Windows 8 or higher.

Is there a work around? Or do I have to get a license of Windows 8?

For BootCamp, there is no work-around: Win8 or Win10 are your choices. However, such as Parallels Desktop virtualization solutions can run any version of Windows and can be a viable solution for you.
