Inspiron 1520 boots only by pressing D + start button / stop
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, who has an unusual problem. If I press the power button, the drive light hard turns on then turns off and turns on the led Verr Num. The screen is blank. However, if I press the D button and power at the same time button, the screen turns on and goes through a color test, then it goes to a start page where I can start windows normally. It starts windows and is very well. I am also able to press power button together and function to perform an evaluation of the system prior to initialization, which takes place at the moment.
Any ideas? Why is he not start normally with just the power button? Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi stncald,
Share the results of the evaluation of the system of pre-launch.
Connect an external monitor to the system and press the power button to see if there is any display on the external monitor only.
Updated the BIOS OF THE system from the link http://dell.to/1bDPDqb , then check if the system boots normally.
You can check the link http://dell.to/176grvH to find out how to upgrade the BIOS.
Keep me informed of the results. I'll be happy to help you further.

Hello
Try to connect the laptop to the external monitor to check if pictures or anything else appears on the second monitor?
You can also try to use the FN + F5 combination to check if the display will change back to the internal display. But look, man, if you are not successful then I guess there must be a serious hardware problem and only the laptop technician might know what's wrong.

Original title: Start button / stop - "ask me what to do" - where is it?
Under XP, when I pressed the power button I could put it "Ask Me what to do." This is very useful for two reasons:
-My PC is under my desk, and if I'm not careful, I can press the power button with my knee...
-To turn off, I can hit the power button / stop rather than start etc, then choosing.
The feature exists on Windows 7 (press alt + F4), then how do you link that to the press the power button? Why this was removed?
See you soon,.

Yes, there are only work-a-rounds and that is why I suggested that

for those who have used the function correctly, it is a concern when trying
to restore its functionality. To my knowledge, is not 100%

Original title: Startup problem
When I press the Start button, flashes very quickly, and the logo of the operating system and then flashes windows very quickly, then connect to flashes of password and then the screen goes dark (the monitor is turned on) and nothing more. Before if I turned off the computer, the sequence starts returning to normal and I could log on. Now, I only get that quick flashes and then nothing, what can I do to log on the computer?
Hello!
I had a somewhat similar to this problem and that's what I tried.
He temporarily stabilized my problem but I have a serious type of divorce
problems with my beloved once Windows 7. However, in your case, it may be
the solution.
This is the procedure:
(1) power on your PC or laptop
(2) when he started, start pressing and releasing the F8 key till you get the windows
Fix the Page (I don't remember the exact name, but it's a screen with many options).
(3) among the options is "Last known good Configuration", click it. See if that fixes the problem.
(4) If this does not work, then you need to try other options, namely:
(A) the Startup Repair
(B) the system restore
(C) verification of memory
(D) command prompt:
(The last option would have been a godsend, but it does not work in the console command prompt.)
I'll tell you about it...)
If all the above methods fail, try this method (it worked for me temporarily). This method is an option only when you
are able to access the above page and when you have administrator privileges. Then, when you're on the screen above, you will see these options:
Safe mode
Safe mode with network
Choose the second option. If all goes well, you will be at the level of the office. On the desktop, right click the command prompt icon. If you don't have a shortcut cmd, no problem. Press start and type cmd or command. Right click on cmd and then click "Run as Administrator".
* Now in the command console, type chkdsk/f/r (the space after the chkdsk command is optional). You may get a message that you can schedule chkdsk at the next restart, treatment is (Yes).
* Then, in the same type of console sfc/scannow. If all goes well, it will rectify errors of all the files on your system.
Note: If you please ensure that your battery is 100 pc loaded before you try it. or better yet, let him charge while you do this.
Keep me posted.
All the best!

ElliteBook 8460p will not be running when you press the Start button
Hi Ant classmates.
I am facing a problem with my 8460p ElliteBook. When I press the Start button it won't start and I need to apply some mechanical vibrarions so he reacts to the button. I guess that there is a problem with a connection inside. The thing is that he does not always fail, but it happens more often. I'm afraid to send it to HP support and resume with a message like "the problem didn't see the - up." I'm close to the date limit of warranty, but I need my laptop for 3 more weeks for professional issues. What should I do?
Thank youHello Angelica,.

T400: Start button / stop does nothing in Vista
Hello, I start button / stop set to "turn off computer" in the Power Manager settings, but when I press the Vista power button nothing happens. I use Vista 32 bit SP2. The power button turns the computer very well and of course now that it performs a closed hard but he executes any action when you press right on it.
Holding for 1.5 seconds will shut down normally (assuming that you have defined at the stop) and now it for about 5 seconds or more will make a stop 'hard' who just turns off everything without a load.

original title: what happens if I can't start?
How to get back on the desktop? and when I push the Start button, that it doesn't show up?
Try the following solutions:
To access the system recovery environment in Windows 7, simply start your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system. Press the [F8] key function 8 on your keyboard which will launch the menu Advanced Boot Options. You will see a new option "Repair your computer", select this option and press 'Enter' on your keyboard.
If the problem persists, try to start safe mode, start your PC, just before the system loads the Windows operating system. Press the [F8] key function 8 on your keyboard which will launch the menu Advanced Boot Options. Select Safe Mode.
In Safe Mode, try the following:
Check your hard drive for errors:
Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them. Also:
Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannowThis will check for any breach of integrity
Restart your system
See if Windows starts correctly, when you click on the start menu.
You should also try to check your computer for any malicious code on it.

Hi Mayur,
Welcome to the community,
Sound signal can be used as a diagnostic indicator. The computer may emit a series of beeps at startup if errors or problems. This series of beeps identifies a problem and is called "beep code".

Satellite L550-1CW does not start by pressing the power button / stop
I have a Toshiba Satellite L550-1cw that won't start, lights up when I press the power button all the lights at the front, the fan starts and he is looking for a HARD drive for about 2 seconds and then stops.
I tried a new HARD drive, but the same happens.
I was told that all this must be ignored and buy a new one that is not an option.
I love this laptop and want to run again as this is the best I have ever owned.Help, please
Andrew
Can you give us more information on this vulnerability?
You see something on the screen after pressing the power button?
You can access the BIOS by pressing the F2 key immediately after switching on the device?Despite this whole issue, I think that if nothing is visible on the screen it could be a serious problem with one of the following: RAM modules, motherboard, CPU/GPU.
From my experience the RAM memory modules are not very expensive (2nd hand might be good enough) and the replacement isn t very delicate in the case where the faulty memory causes this problem, the laptop could be set for a little money.
But in case of problems of motherboard, laptop repair procedure could be very expensive.

I think that you don't need to look for the answer in the forum. For me, it makes sense that the laptop must be disassembled and the button should probably be replaced.

PowerEdge T410 won't do anything when you press the power button / stop.
My work has recently retired this t410 server. It worked without any problems when he was arrested. I had to remove and destroy the hard drives from the system. After that, I was allowed to bring home for my own use. I installed a new sata drive and plugged into the power supply and a free sata port on the motherboard. I get nothing when I tried to boot the system. This version has the unique power. Power light only lights up when you press the test button. System fan is going at full speed, but stops when you release the power button. Also on the control panel lights 1,2 and 4 and HDD power on and turn until the test button is released. There is a single green light lit on the motherboard, while it is plugged. Apart from that, I have no response when you press the main power button. Can anyone tell how to try to get it up and running again.
-Who-
I have not received the answers more so I think that this issue is ignored. So I'll let everyone know what finally happened. I solved my problem after a lot of electrical testing. I found a diagram of the arrangement of the power dell power supply pins and I made myself the best possible meter test. After several rounds of tests, I found several pins that did not have the right voltage. I bought a new power supply. I installed and replace everything. I plugged into the system and it auto fed on itself. I loaded from an OS and it works perfectly.

Satellite A200 23W stop seconds after pressing the power button / stop
Hello all :)
I just bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite A200 23W a few hours ago.
I turn it on and let it complete the installation of Vista. After the installation of Vista finishing it asket to resturn laptop and from that moment, the laptop is "dead".
After pressing on restart the computer (from Vista) computer turns off without problem, but he never did it again!
After a few minutes of waiting, I tried to start it by pressing the power button. Now when I press the power button, I can hear the HDD work and most of the time until I see something on the screen of the laptop computer stops!
Now, I noticed that both the battery indicator AND the DC IN light are hot flushing and stop Flash at times.
Reading the manual, I guess that the DC IN indicator should Flash in all not well.I tried to uninstall the battery and try to start the laptop, but in this case I can't even listen to the HDD, commissioning!
I try to unplag and replag (on the laptop as well as Jack) power cable but again no result.Any ideas of what past?
Thank you very muchI don't know what the problem is here and, in my view, should not be so important to you. Contact your dealer as soon as possible and to talk with him. Explain the situation. You will get may be new notebook. Otherwise, please contact the nearest authorized maintainer and let check your laptop.
The laptop is brand new and it should work. Please do not wait too long.
