Inspiron 17R N7110 mSATA Mini (half size) SSD

Hello

I want to upgrade my laptop Inspiron 17R N7110 with a SSD for Windows boot. I have only one place where the HARD drive is already integrated and I want to keep the HARD drive.

When I remove the dust inside the laptop the fan I saw the "mini card" (half) - Slot Machines. In one, I have WIFI, but the otherone is empty. So my idea was to add a Mini mSATA (half size) SSD.

I saw this on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/MyDigitalSSD-Super-Cache-HybriDisk-Software/dp/B00JF4CUBO/ref=pd_cp_pc_0

But I don't know if that would work (such as boot drive for Win8). Make this shape as a (half) "mini card"? Is SATA III to this slot machine supported? What I have to change in the BIOS?

Thanks to all who responded.

The hybrid propulsion system is the best option for this (short to get a full SSD) system - there is no way to put an mSATA SSD in this system.

The system supports standard, 2.5 "hard drives up to 9.5 mm height.

  • Inspiron 17R 7720 mSATA question

My Inspiron 17R 7720 has an mSATA SSD 32 GB. I thought, apparently incorrectly, that this disc was a startup disk that contains the operating system and has been used to provide a faster start of the OS. In response to another thread I posted an answering machine said my mSATA drive was a cache and did not contain any programs. Does that mean that there is no data stored permanently on the drive from mSATA? When the system is turned off, all data on the mSATA is lost? If so, what is the purpose of bigger disks mSATA? I see them more than 128 GB, a disc more capacious mSATA, how that my 32 GB disk does not want?

32G disc puts cached the main reader - there IS data stored on it and more frequently data are accessible, more it is stored on the disk of 32G.  It is a COPY of the data from the hard drive, though - this is NOT a RAID 0 array.

An mSATA cache (or a hybrid disc) will speed up playback from the HDD a little, but it is a pale imitation of the performance you get when you actually install and run the operating system completely of a native SSD.  This will improve the overall combined system vs. running a caching, hybrid or a conventional hard drive.

  • Upgrading CPU for Inspiron 17r N7110

Is it possible to update the i5 - 2450M to an i7 chip, and if yes what i7 chip I can use?

    Hello

just to let you know that I've updated an inspiron n7110 to the i7 cpu. He had the i3 2330 m cpu in but change over same as the i5. Processors supported are 2330 i3, i3 2350 m, i5 2450 m, i7 2630qm and i7 2670qm. (there may be others). As Sue McCartin mentioned see youtube and google. Replace the cpu was pretty easy as have replaced multiple-CPU to a local pc shop might make it no problem if your is not happy to do it yourself.

I just noticed post is old but I hope it helps someone else if you already have your fact.

  • GPU on Inspiron 17R (N7110) can be upgraded?

I use this laptop for games, but some games require a higher performance graphics processor. Is it possible to upgrade and it so what are the processors Nvidia can be installed?

    Hi SteelGraphics,

Usually, laptops have not the ability to update the graphics card. The graphics card is integrated on the motherboard and a full motherboard replacement may be necessary. Dell card NVIDIA GeForce GT 525 M only ships with this system model. This must be selected at time of purchase. If you are looking to update the graphics card, motherboard together may be replaced.

    Hope this information helps.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

In a wireless (Wi - Fi) network, the computers are connected by radio instead of wire or cable signals. Advantages of wireless networks include mobility and the absence of unsightly wires. This problem may occur due to several reasons such as faulty driver, security software, 3rd party software or application etc.

Before troubleshooting, provide us with information.

    1. what security software you use in your computer?

    2. don't you make changes to the computer before this problem?

    Follow the steps below.

    Method 1:

Uncheck allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option in Device Manager and check.

    a. click on Start and go to Control Panel, in the Panel click on the small icons to display.

    b. search for network and sharing Center and open it.

    c. on the left side, you will see an option that says "change the map settings. Open it.

    d. you will have two local and wireless connections. Right-click on Wireless one, and then select Properties.

    e. now, click CONFIGURE.

    f. you will see 5 tabs, click on the last one that says "power management."

    g. now simply UNCHECK the first box that says "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

    Method 2:

You can update the network drivers and check.

  • How do I clone the mSATA drive in my Inspiron 17R 7720?

I have two almost identical Inspiron 17R laptop 7720; one that I bought new from Dell 4 years and one that I bought used a couple of weeks. Both have identical hardware with the following exceptions: my original has a Core i7 processor and a 32 GB mSATA drive, while the new has a Core i5 processor and no mSATA drive. Hard drives, video, memory, etc. are all the same on both computers.

I bought a car identical mSATA for the new computer and try to clone the mSATA and the old computer's HARD drive, so I have two identical computers. I tried cloning of disks using Macrium Reflect. Cloned HARD drive successfully, but reflects only concludes a 8 GB partition not formatted on the old disk mSATA, not all 32GB. I cloned the new drive mSATA and tried in my old computer it correctly identified the drive but it was not valid, said RAID 0 volume and asked me to change my drive to non-RAID configuration.

Any thoughts on how I can clone the old mSATA disc correctly to the new?

You can't clone this player.  What you need to do is set up the Intel IRST again.

  • Inspiron 17R-N7010 new SSD installed, now I need Windows 7 operating system installation CD.

    Hi guys,.

So my HDD on my Inspiron 17R-N7010 completely stock * on me last week, so I just gritted my teeth and just bought I have completely new SDS and installed last night... now, however, I need to reinstall the operating system. Problem is that when I bought the laptop, Windows 7 is pre-installed, so I don't have to drive to it. How can I do to get an installation disc, and how much it will cost if I can get my laptop up and running again? It's an outdated OS and the laptop is almost 6 years, I can't imagine which costs a lot. There is also a store Microsoft directly by me, can I go ahead and buy the disc of Windows 7 OS you think?

In addition, the original HARD drive was 640GO and this new SSD is 500 GB, so the recovery disks that I made when I got the laptop are unnecessary since Dell Datasafe Recovery (or whatever we call it) keeps telling me the hard drive needs to at least 590GB of space (or something similar along this message). The smallest space on the SSD isn't going to be a problem with the laptop in general or during installation of operating system Windows 7 is?

You will need to call Dell - they usually sell a set of recovery media for about $25 in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Canada.

  • Inspiron 17R cannot install windows on the new drive

I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with a dead 1 t HARD and the 32 GB SSD drive. The hard drive is a loss total and out of warranty, so I have to install Windows on a new hard drive.

I don't have a recovery disk so I install Windows 8.1 since an original DVD I ordered from Microsoft, some time ago.

My problem is that the laptop is not considered to be able to boot from the DVD. I get a message "No operation system Found."

I changed the startup list in the BIOS to first have the DVD. I tried f12 to choose the DVD to start but nothing works. I checked the disc in another computer and it's good.

I read something on the problems causing mSATA SSD and also on the Intel Rapid Storage is a problem.

Please help if you can, I need the laptop for school.

(Or fact) the DVD Player reads all other discs?

  • Inspiron 17R SE (7720) upgrade screen resolution?

    Hello
I have a 'special edition of the Inspiron 17R"(serial number: DCC2DT1) and I used it for about 2 and a half years.
Not once in that time has stopped working, I'm very happy with it and I would update some components and I hope to continue to use it for a few years.

    I am looking to change/update the screen 1600 x 900 on a Full HD 1920 x 1080 display.
My main question here is, if this is possible and will not be a problem, and if I could use first put the other components of the laptop?

I would also like to upgrade the HDD for an SSD and a day later the Intel i7 Intel i5 processor. Is this what I need to know before I Exchange/upgrade components?

    Thanks for reading.

To upgrade the display panel, you must also replace the harness of the display - one that comes with the lower panel of the resolution will not work with the FHD display.

SSD upgrade will not be a problem

Updates are possible with this model (it is the last of Intel Mobile processors, which is sold in the form of half-bridge, removable) - you will need an Ivy Bridge CPU.  Also check your power adapter - 90 w does not have an i7.  You need a minimum of 130 W power adapter to run an i7 CPU.

  • W530 - choose what size SSD upgrade strategy?

I still hesitate between two strategies of size SSD upgrade for my brand new W530.

    1. an (internal) SSD + a HARD drive (internal)

    • Put the original of the ultrabay DVD burner in an external enclosure (connected to the laptop with a USB cable SATA) and use when necessary
    • Put the original Toshiba HDD 500 GB of the main Bay in a shopping cart, then in housing as a backup drive-ultrabay
    • Buy a Crucial SSD m4 (512GB) for the main Bay and use it to drive to OS/programs and road data

    2. two SSDs (internal) + a HARD drive (external)

    • Put the original of the ultrabay DVD burner in an external enclosure (connected to the laptop with a USB cable SATA) and use when necessary
    • Put the original Toshiba HDD 500 GB in an external case (connected to the laptop with a USB cable SATA) and use it as a backup drive
    • Buy 2 m4 Crucial SSD (128 + 256 GB):

-one in the main Bay as player of OS/programs (128 GB)

-one in a basket, then in housing ultrabay as data drive (256 GB)

I also want to let you know that a 512 GB SSD is a little more expensive than a 128 GB SSD + a 256 GB SSD. Also, I like to choose the best strategy of resistance, reliability and durabilty.

Could you share with me the benefits & disadvantages for both strategies and tell me which is the best strategy for your point of view?

    Thanks for your help,

    Bertrand

    @p1

I agree with the approach of @eos. I have configured my W520 on the same track. I have an mSATA SSD 256GB (a - Data), with a 750 GB HARD drive in the Bay of primary and a 500GB HDD in the Ultrabay slot.

The mSATA SSD is my boot device, even if I sometimes start from one of the other disks when testing new configurations.

The mSATA slot is SATA 2 don't bother me a bit. It's very fast. Sometimes, I put an mSATA SSD in an mSATA to the 2.5 enclosure and run in the Ultrabay SATA 3-speed housing. I'm hard pressed to notice the difference.

You're better off using a partition of HARD drive for data for various reasons. On the one hand, at least write cycles committed SSDS, longer it will last. Second, if your system partition is lost, your data is still intact. Third, you can save a small partition of data rather than a larger combo partion.

I love having the flexibility of two open bays using the mSATA offer slot - i.e. I sometimes swap in my optical drive in the Ultrabay slot, etc.

  • Install Windows 7 Pro on new Inspiron 17R occurs disk hard error message and pilot application

I want to install Win 7 pro 64 on my Inspiron 17r, which came with Win 8 House.  I use a Dell Win 7 pro 64 DVD reinstallion I bought on Ebay.  He came in a sealed envelope and included a (supposedly) used United Nations w COA / product key, barcode, etc..  I would like, if possible, to install Win 7 in the same partition that currently has win 8 and leave the other partitions several alone to keep the programs presented by Dell.  The hard drive is a SATA 1 TB drive 5400 RPM with a map of mSATA SSDR 32 G, Dell build sheet items 340-9594 and 342-4360.

When I boot with Win 7 DVD and try to install everything goes well for a while.  Then when the screen "Where do you want to install windows?" rises no disks or partitions are displayed and the following error message is displayed at the bottom of the screen: "no hard disk found.  "Click on load a driver to provide a driver for installing mass storage.  Click on load a driver generates a request to insert the media containing the driver files, which of course I did not.

So where can I find this driver file?

    Thank you

So, if you have not already install 7zip (http://7-zip.org/download.html) get the .msi to 32 or 64 bit depending on your version of Windows.

    Download: http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER01144200M/1/Serial-ATA_Driver_VWCH1_WN_11.6.0.1030_A02.EXE

Once downloaded extract the file with 7zip.

Click with the right button on the serial number - ATA_Driver_VWCH1_WN_11.6.0.1030_A02. EXE and select Extract to «»

This will make a folder called Serial - ATA_Driver_VWCH1_WN_11.6.0.1030_A02. EXE

In this folder are f6flpy SATA drivers labeled such as they appear on floppy disks.

Copy the f6flpy - x 64 (64-bit) to a USB port, when asked to load the drivers select the USB port and this folder.

  • The battery life for inspiron 17r special edition or what to buy for College?

I am looking to buy a high mid range laptop for College. I need a laptop that can handle games, in addition to other activities of the College. I've narrowed my search up to three computers different portable all pretty much the same price, and now I don't know that we choose. My three choices are the occasional 17r, the xps 15 Inspiron and alienware m14x.

I'm leaning toward the inspiron because its cheaper than the other two and still a great internals. My only concern is the battery life. The battery is low, and I guess with the i7 and the screen 17 inch hd that the battery of the 17r will be terrible. I need something that's going to allow me to study on campus, if need is and be able to handle the TRIPS would be nice. So my question is... Are their any availble upgraded battery for editing special 17r? I saw a battery 9 cells, but it is not listed specifically as compatible with the Edition special 17r, just a 17r. If there is not, are their suggestions for greater autonomy on the road (without the usual stuff like processes of cutting and dimming of the screen).

Also, on a related note, the inspiron 17r will be able to manage the game well? I don't need a power plant, but I want something that can handle new games for the next two years even if I have to lower the settings as the games become more intense.

    Hi dtruax,

After sending two children to College, I went through this twice buying decision. The first thing I will say is that you're probably not going to carry your laptop on campus, almost as much as you think you will. And all equipped with gaps of a computer on campus, 17 "laptop will become quickly apparent. For the most part he'll be back at home. So the battery life is not as important as you might think.

Regarding the size, two of my students, who initially leaned over to a 17 "machine, were much more happy with a smaller screen (14" for my son, 15 "for my daughter), compared to their classmates with computers laptops 17".

The three models, the XPS is going to be the best for gaming. But I go back to the advice we have been given. Spend a little less on the laptop and a little more to get a 4 year complete care warranty. Many universities offer a 4 year warranty free and tech support if you buy through their Bookstore, which is what we did.

  • WiDi on Inspiron 17R SE

I see there are several messages about WiDi, but I think the General view is that it should work on the system I bought (Inspiron 17R SE).

Unfortunately, it does not work on mine.

When you install the driver recommended WiDi, Setup fails with t he message "platform is not compatible with Intel WiDi or the application is in use.

I also tried to install the driver of Windows 7, but trying to run that it fails when you try to load a .dll file.

I think I have all the latest drivers.

Suggestions please as to how to get this to work - it is a requirement for me.

    Thank you.

After spending many hours miserable installing and uninstalling software and drivers, I am pleased to announce that WiDi is alive and well on my system.
