The hard drive on my Asus Q500a is bad (he had checked the repairman). The laptop comes with Windows 7 and I upgraded to 8 when it came out (I think). I don't have a recovery disk.

How can I replace the corrupted hard drive and re-install the operating system?

  • My previous version of windows (which is already installed on the hard drive) will erase if I boot from a bootable USB. Please help me!

I have Windows 8 is installed and an iso of Windows 8.1 on my USB.

My previous version of windows (which is already installed on the hard drive) will erase if I boot from a bootable USB. Please help me!

When you upgrade to 8.1 Windows it will replace your Windows 8.0. The only way I know to have both is to buy a copy of Windows 8.1 and install on another partition or drive.  Hope this helps and if you need another post to help and we will be happy to help you.

  • Replacement hard drive will affect my OS?

    (1) HP HDX16 - 1375DX, p/n NV033UA #ABA

    (2) Windows Vista (but windows sent a CD for Windows 7 upgrade for this laptop because Windows 7 was released a month after I bought the laptop)

    (3) Windows couldn't start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

    (4) no changes have been made. I only noticed that the witness 'busy' on my computer was on nearly 100% of the time. Literally, it would not stop blinking. Was no strange process on which may have caused it and my CPU usage was like 4 to 8%. I restarted my computer several times and noticed that even my computer loading took about 15 min.

After typing my password for logging on to windows, it took about 2 minutes to the 'Welcome' screen and spent about 15-20 min of loading of the computer upward after that.

Finally, after my 5th time perform a reboot it gave me the error message "Windows could not start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause immediately after reboot and it will not even more go to the login screen

I just did a hard drive self-test and it saidReplace hard drive, which means that even

My friend says my hard drive is finally dead. (His death too but it had a warranty from Bestbuy to take care of all this.) I do not have) so I think to buy a hard drive for the Amazon and installing it just myself.

How to replace my hard drive will affect my OS? Will I still have vista? My computer, bought from Bestbuy, never came with these "installation CD" I keep hearing people talk about. But windows has sent me "CD to upgrade" to windows 7.

Can someone tell me what to do?

Yes to replace the hard drive will affect the OS because the OS is on the hard drive. The hard drive is permanent storage and contains the programs and files you use every day. RAM (memory) holds the programs and files that are open on a computer running and only while they are running. RAM is off when you turn off the computer, the hard drive are not the case of the data.

Theoretically the disc of Windows 7 will run on a computer that has Vista installed. While HP does not give you a Vista restore disk, the computer has a program on what might have you a recovery disk which could be executed, and then run the Windows 7 disc. If you can borrow a Vista install disk you can use your key code to install Vista.

Your Windows 7 disc might actually work by itself. Worth a try. Here is a site that gives you a few instructions:

    http://www.winsupersite.com/article/Windows-7/clean-install-Windows-7-with-upgrade-media

I think you're going to need some major help here and we can certainly help you. The first thing to do is to get a hard drive. Best Buy sells and so newegg.com and I guess amazon.com. Let us know what you think of buying and the cost because the price of portable HDD vary a lot and if you're savvy, they are fairly cheap but you can way too expensive, too. You shouldn't pay more than $100 for the larger drive and the best available and you can get a perfectly good for more like $50.

  • "If the corrupted hard drive will be the OS can be installed again"

"If the corrupted hard drive will be the OS can be installed again"

If the hard drive has minimal corruption in localized areas, you can reinstall Windows.  You will need to reformat the hard drive, however.  When you get to step in the installation process where it formats the hard drive, do not choose "quick" format  On the contrary, let him do a full format.

  • Can I replace the SSD HARD drive in my sve15123cv

    Hello

I use sve15123cv, I want to replace the SSD HARD drive. Is this possible?

    Which SSD is good?

    Hi zunnun,.

Thank you for visiting the Sony community!

It is possible, but we cannot guarantee that it will work without any problem. You need to consider certain things such as the specification of the HARD drive, thickness or dimension of the SSD that you plan to install first. Your Vaio SVE15123CV is a non American model. Unfortunately, we do not have full details and specifications of your machine. However, you can coordinate with the Sony support based on your location or where you bought the device.

  • Hard drive will not accept any CD or DVD

I have a MacBook Pro, OS 10.6.8 version.  The hard drive will not accept a CD or a DVD.  Thinking maybe I left a floppy disk in the drive, I tried to eject, but the eject button does not eject anything.  I have not tried to insert a disk for a long time, so do not know how long it could have been a problem without me realizing it. I tried to shut down the computer and restart, but this does not solve the problem.  I did some research using the Apple Hardware Test, but the instructions say insert the Applications install disc 2.  Unfortunately, as I can't insert a disc, I can't deal with the problem in this way?  Any suggestions?

    Have you tried:

  • Cannot install windows XP it said hard drives are not connected & windows can not find the hard drives

I got an asus computer notebook windows vista, upgrade from vista to windows 7, now I'm not able to do a clean install of windows xp, when I try to install XP, it says that hard drives are not connected & windows cannot find not the hard drives, so once again installed windows 7, is there a way to overcome this problem Why do I get the message windows xp does not detect hard drives? I even formatted the hard drive & tried to install Xp, but still, I get the same message.

    The answers will be appreciated...

    Thank you

Because the Windows XP installation CD does not have the necessary disk controller drivers.  You will need a floppy drive to provide the drivers of controller for the installation program, or you will need to burn a CD of Windows XP with the controller drivers slipstreamed into the installation.  A CD of Windows XP with SP2 included may have the necessary drivers.

  • Replacing an old hard drive causes the system had become unbootable

    OK, here's the scenario.

    Background:
My old computer with Windows XP has been installed on a hard disk of 40 GB. Later through subsequent updates, I bought the upgrade Windows Vista Professional (retail) and proceeded to install Vista on a brand new 250 GB hard drive. Initially, he had some problems I did a clean install with upgrade to Vista, but then with the help of Mircrosoft support (and several hours of reformats and corrupt the old installation of XP) managed to get Vista installed hard disk new and active. I kept the old drive hard in the computer for about a year, but then noticed that he was starting to get out. I moved all the old information off the drive and recently bought a 1 TB drive to replace. I deleted everything that above with the exception of a few remaining files that won't let me not delete - documents and settings and startup records, respectively.

    Problem:
When I take the old 40 GB hard drive to reside on Windows XP, my computer when startup is unable to find a drive it can boot from. Under disk management, it is labeled as system - even if the windows directory is on a completely separate drive. My intention was to replace the old hard drive, but I can't get my computer to recognize that it is not on the system drive somehow.

    Question:
Is it possible to change what hard drive is recognized as a system disk or make sure I can get out the old hard drive and still keep my bootable system?

    Hello Lightningfst,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum.  First off I would say that, before trying any of the suggestions I'm about to do that you completely back up the contents of the drive with Vista Business as a precaution.  The first suggestion I have is to copy the MBR of the disk of 40G to 250G drive.  It could be as simple as that.  However, when Windows sees a drive and initializes it, Windows writes a serial number of 4 bytes in the MBR (sector 0) of the disc. No matter what partition you create on this disc is then associated with the serial number and the drive letter that the partition is given.

When you then progress to clone a boot partition on the new disk with a cloning program that does not copy the MBR, the serial number of the old drive is not copied to the new disk, so the new disk retains its serial number Windows has seen before.

When Windows starts on the new disc, he sees the serial number of the new drive and guess the partition that is on that now belongs to the previously selected drive letter which is almost always not C:. Since installing Windows starts on C:, there is now no C: drive when Windows starts. Trying to connect allows Windows attempts to load the user from C:\Documents and Settings\registry, and the C: drive is not there, so Windows simply to abandon the attempt to logon and closes a session back.

If this happens to you after copy the MBR of the disk of 40G to 150G Unit let us know and we can help you solve the problems that.  I hope this information is useful.

    Thank you

  • R51 new HARD drive will not restore factory correctly state with discs

I caught a HDD of 80 GB on old computer my gf, and I thought I would use it to replace the 40 GB hard drive in my ThinkPad R51.  There is not really important info on my old hdd, so I just created a factory recovery disks, put on the new hard drive (both are PATA) and ran from Rescue and Recovery.  After completing restore to factory state all the new hard drive will do is Rescue and new Recovery charge.  It does not load Windows.  Is there anything else I need to do?

Shot in the hip here, but ISTR that some versions of R & R restore the image of 'restoration' in HD, then you restart to R & R and run a restore it to complete the restore of the rest of the car.

As I said, just something I've seen elsewhere.  Worth, perhaps,

    Z.

  • Cloning hard drive with Clonezilla failed, gave a bad sector error message and now the original hard drive will not boot

    Original title: startup problem

I tried cloning from my hard drive with Clonezilla, and he gave me a bad sector error.  I have since run the hard drive test in bios and it passed.  Anyway, clone has failed, and now the original hard drive will not boot.  My dvd player won't turn when I try to load the Vista repair CD (Vista Home Premium 32 bit).  Clonezilla removes the start settings for the original disc?  And if so, how can I restore it?  The computer starts just a black screen with a cursor at the top left.  When I install the hard drive in a box and connect it to another computer, it shows the partitions and files all seem to be there.

    Hi DougEisenmann,

Clonezilla is not supported by Microsoft.

If you are unable to boot from the Vista repair disk then you will need to go into the system BIOS and make sure that it is configured to boot from the DVD drive.
