Install options to place in El Capitan

I have an iMac 2011 with two partitions. We have Snow Leopard, which is necessary for Final Cut Pro 6. Another has Lion where I want to install El Capitan, I downloaded but it says that I need about 3 GB of space to install. I don't have large files or apps that I downloaded that take up a lot of space.

Can I remove some large applications such as iPhoto (1 GB), iMovie (700 MB), GarageBand (380 MB), etc. and expect just to be re-installed with El Capitan? I have no files or projects in these applications, but I don't want to lose the apps forever. I see that the Mac App Store has these apps but charge for them.

I have an external hard drive with a copy of the scores I've done with Carbon Copy Cloner a bit old. I'd rather not do the project of Re-partitioning to make more space on the Lion, but it may be the only option and not also involved I guess it is.

Thank you!

El Capitan requires about 8-9 GB of free space for the installation of the4.  After that, it may take only 3 GB of space.  However, it is strongly recommended that a minimum of 10 to 15 GB free spade maintained for optimal system and application run. So reformatting of the hard drive may be necessary depending on how much free space on the partition of Lion.  Also, you should have the same amount of free cat in the volume of SL for good performance.

How much space you have in each volume?  You could add an external hard drive that is formatted as shown in this screenshot of bulky House (not applications) as your iTunes or iPhoto, libraries etc.
