Installation of a BLU - RAY DRIVE internal in a 8700 XPS PC.

My purchase of a Dell XPS 8700 computer has arrived, and I want to install a drive internal blu - ray since mine did not come with one.

Is this possible?

I'm a bit of a novice in computer science and I watched videos online of the people equip their computer with a blu - ray player, but none of them is featured a 8700 XPS.  Can anyone help me with instructions on how to:

-Open the computer

-connect/install the blu - ray player?

I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!

Hello

It should be possible.  The XPS 8700 should come with unused bays where the blu - ray player can be adapted.   But I must warn you that you're dealing with electronics when you do the upgrades and installs.  Please make sure that you watch videos that explain all the security requirements when it comes to the delicate pieces.

Here is the link to the manuals for the 8700 XPS.   It has both a guide and the specifications for you to review document.  Again, I strongly recommend reading the safety precautions section and "before you begin" to get a better understanding of what you need to do.

It should also be a section in the manual to know how to install a replacement disk, which will essentially be the step by step instructions.

Good luck and don't forget to follow the safety guides and installation instructions completely.

  • X230T USB 3 port sleep problem with external Blu - Ray drive

    Hi all

I bought a new LG external blu - ray drive and I have problems with it sleeps very quickly.  It is recognized in Windows 7 and will be available for a short period of time after I turn it on, but if I don't use it for 30 seconds, it's in a kind of fashion 'sleep'.  It works perfectly on the single WE port 2.0 on the X230T so there must be something with the 3.0 port.  The drive is powered by an AC adapter and USB 3.0 cable included one.

I tried to disable all the properties sleeping USB in all areas of power management and power options in Windows.  Also enabled and disabled USB hub root energy saving.  Also, I went through the BIOS and threw the USB options as well and can't find why it is go to sleep so quickly.  I have the latest firmware on the drive, as well as the latest drivers Lenovo USB 3.0 for the X230T.

I guess I'm out of luck at this point because I think I've tried all possible solutions?

    Thank you.

    Hi again,

I have looked on the specs and do not see why this problem should occur. I would make sure that the BIOS is updated, if you have not already. The latest BIOS for your machine is 2.03 and came out a month ago. This update, you can find here. And if this does not work, can you check and publish what are the settings in your BIOS Config > USB Configuration?

    Best,

    Adam

  • Virtual Blu Ray player or Blu Ray drives external programs... Which one? Myth or Muffin?

    Greetings one and all,

Alrighty then let me are the sitch. When I bought my computer two years ago I got to worth the money, cash, dough or dollars to buy, so I had to skimp on what I wanted. The main thing I have the proverbial axe was the disk/drive Blu Ray, my PS3 could handle plqaying already so I was not too broken not to have one in the computer, after all, it was a short walk to the center of pop entertainment in the dics and press play.

Well, it was then and this is now and I have become totally lazy and should rather not do the loooong now trek to the PS3 to play my Blu Ray DVD more and prefer to have this accomplished through my computer without the need to install another drive. So now I'm looking for ways to accomplish these tasks by getting either a Blu Ray drive/external drive, or use one of the many "virtual drive Blu - Ray reader/programs I've seen available for download on the net?

Now the first choice is to say... the external hard drive is pretty easy to install, just pop something cord USB into the USB port and tah dah Uncle Bob, you have a Blue Ray disc/player! The second path, that the program Virtual Drive/drive Blu Ray, becomes a much more confusing question, a question I am now in touch with you very smart people. Okay here's my stupid question...  These programs will work through my factory installed Combo drive CD/DVD Drive to play my Blu Ray DVD on my calculation? Or do I really have to buy something else to achieve?

    Hi Tiffany Snow,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community, thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community. You will need a physical bluray player to read physical disks. A virtual disk appears only on the computer disk images.

I have just received an alert of tempro on a driver update that my L850-161 will play blu - ray discs. Now, I was quite surprised that I only have a dvd player of standard model provided with L850 when I bought it.

  • Satellite A200-21dts CD/DVD drive with a Blu - ray drive replacement

    Hello

    I have a laptop Satellite A200-21dts supplied with the mat * a UJ-850 drive.

My original disk no longer works...
I plan to buy a new one, but I wish that whoever has a buit in the Blu - ray dvd player.

I've heard that not all players are working with Toshiba laptops, so I would like a little help to find a bluray player that would work with my laptop.

    Two readers caught my attention:
the Panasonic UJ - 120 and the Sony BC 5500 has.

    These drivers work with Toshibas?
    Anyone have another suggestion?

Thank you much for the help!

    Hello

    > These drivers work with Toshibas?
I think you will have to test it yourself.
As much as I know Toshiba didn t nothing said about Blueray players compatible Satellite A200.

The fact is that not all readers are compatible due to different master/slave/c-salt settings.
With the help of ODD is not compatible you will get an IDE #1 error and the drive will not be recognized by the BIOS.

But I've read here in the forum that some guy managed to upgrade own Toshiba units with a blue ray player
So I m thinking you've got a good opportunity to update.

  • Which Blu - ray drive would be compatible for Satellite L855-149

    Hello

I'm a L855-149 next week but I want to put a blu ray player (preferably a writer) in the machine, instead of the DVD, it is bundled with.

Can someone tell me what will fit please?

    Thank you
    Mick

    Hello

However, I know that this info is in the manual (page 11)
Compatible Blu - ray players are:

Drive Blu - ray Panasonic combo UJ160
Panasonic UJ260 Blu - ray burner

Toshiba TS-LB23D Blu - ray Combo drive
Blu - ray Toshiba writer SN-506AF

    Hitachi CT40F Combo drive
    Engraver Hitachi BT - 20F

  • Wanted: Adding a Blu - ray drive

Right now, my laptop reads DVD but as soon as it is out of warranty (soon), I want to replace the DVD player that will play blu - ray as well. Can you give me some suggestions of what will be the word with this model?

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See p. 46. You remove the back cover and a screw inside and the optical drive behind the scenes.

This is the player you need for M7 models:

Disc Blu - ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double layer Combo Drive 729728-001

It is a Blu - Ray player, which I think is what you need as you want to watch Blu-Rays and not burn Blu-Rays.

You can buy the part that it comes from the factory, so it's just a replacement fitted but very expensive:

    https://www.Amazon.com/HP-729728-001-optical-disc-drive/DP/B00G2GJRNC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&QID=1468928120&SR=8-2&keywords=729728-001

Much cheaper to buy just the drive and swap the disc in your drive current DVD is in the mounting bracket. It is a 5 minute job, involving perhaps 5 or 6 screws.

    http://www.eBay.com/ITM/Panasonic-UJ172-Blu-ray-6x-BD-combo-drive-for-HP-envy-M4-M6-M7-series-/271739477830?hash=item3f44ef5f46:g:xLgAAOSw8d9UtJdr

If you take it to a technician he or she will have access to anything on the computer. I always ask someone that I help give me passwords, etc., so I can test the functioning of the parts that I install. In this case, you can see if you could make an appointment and watch the technician as an experienced technician could swap in a new drive to maybe 15-20 minutes. You can buy the disc and take the laptop to the technician. I don't think there are that I am convinced that we can guide you through the process, but if you really don't want to do and I understand then that would be the way to go. Probably even cheaper than the factory replacement.

CyberLink Power Media 14 can read Blu - Ray, but it may require that you purchase a kind of plugin pack. Probably not, however.

Let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

  • Mount the blu - ray drive in my 5830tg timelinex

    Hello world

    I am a proud owner/user a aspire timelinex 5830tg.

I would like to mount a drive to blu ray rather than the stock dvd burner, and I was wondering if there are problems of compatibility with third party products; I'm not bothered with the looks (perhaps different bezel), but just with the feature: would it actually perfectly inside the status bar and connect to the motherboard?

The 5830tg should not have any problems with a Blueray.

  • Upgrade to a DVD to a Blu - Ray drive in a HP Pavilion DV6910 laptop

My DV6910 came with a dvd/cd rom drive and I thought that the switch will be simple, but I have a feeling that the sata connector is going to be different. I bought a used one and it is on its way, but I'm starting to see photos of some of the connection point and the connectors while the two sata, are different. The one I bought did not have a picture of the back, but I suspect it's like others I've seen. All this experience?

    Hello

I don't think that the laptop is powerful enough to manage blu - ray discs. I checked the specs for a dv6910us and there's a D2C AMD 2 GHz cpu and nVidia 7150 M, which is a very bad set config to play BR discs Readers Blu - Ray are supported on Intel based dv6700 recommended full portable series that might suggest that it would be the same on dv6900 series laptops.
