As for the "Changes" problem that I have no real solution for this, only that you remove every bit of desktop of your machine and everything don't reinstall desktop applications you need. It could be a corrupted registry which is behind this problem.

Unable to connect to the internet to install sp1 and sp2

Service Packs and internet
Since doing a full restore on my computer xp laptop, I can't get on internet. As I try to connect, a message appears telling me to download the Service Pack 1 and 2. I copied these on a disk and tried to install it on XP but could not because I need internet to complete the task. Can anyone help?

Please provide the full text of the message, without paraphrasing.
Start > run > winver > OK
Compared to what is displayed for your version of Windows.
How you get Service Pack 1 and 2 files that you copied to the drive?
You must install Service Pack 3, not Service Pack 2. If your current installation (after recovery) is the original Windows XP, you must install Service Pack 1 before you install Service Pack 3.
You can get the necessary files here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389 to this document, download sp1a on the link that says click here to download Windows XP Service Pack 1a (SP1a).
SP3 withdraws the section down under the heading "Download the latest Windows XP service pack from the Microsoft Download Center" - download the Windows XP Service Pack 3 package now
You don't need to be connected to Internet to install service packs. In fact, you'd be better to disconnect your computer from the Internet and completely disable your antivirus application before installing service packs.

Impossible to install Windows Vista SP1 and SP2
original title: update to vista SP1 and SP2 problem
I have SP1 and SP2 update for vista problems. I completed the destructive recovery and try to install the updates for my new system, but I get the error message and cannot complete the installation.
Have you tried the manual download for SP1? Usually, if an update fails then by downloading and installing manually usually does the trick.
I was able to find a set of steps for you to follow on the problem of Windows Update. I hope it helps.

Space required for Vista SP1 and SP2?
Hello
I have an old Windows Vista Basic Home Edition machine, I bought in 2006. I have not installed upgrades to SP1 and SP2 again, but I want to get them now. Drive C, where Vista is installed, has only 3 GB of space left free. Could someone please guide me if I should proceed with the upgrade or have more space? How much space would take these updates?
Thanks in advance.

Hey HKansal
you really need to buy a bigger hard drive
Make sure you have enough disk space to install SP1 (even though much of that space will be recovered after the installation). If you need a free space on the disk, go to onlinestrategies to free disk space .

Download SP1 from the Microsoft Web site
