Installation of Ubuntu on Inspiron 15R special edition

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition and I tried to install Ubuntu LTS 14.04 on it. The installation went well, but he could not start after installation. I tried to disable SecureBoot in the BIOS and I restarted the computer. He has yet to start. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Try again installing with Secure Boot disabled and make sure of two things:

1. to select UEFI DVD in BIOS to start

2. need for 64-bit Ubuntu 14.04 (supports UEFI)

Keep you the version of Windows that has been preloaded from the Dell factory or you install with Windows or erase Windows and replace it with Ubuntu?

  • How to do a clean install of Windows 7 on Dell Inspiron 7520 (aka Inspiron 15R Special Edition)

The operating system that are preloaded on my Dell Inspiron 7520 (a.ka. Inspiron 15R Special Edition) is Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. I have a retail version of Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate and want to do a clean install on my laptop.

My laptop was able to boot from the retail disk.

After clicking on 'Install now' and accepted the terms and conditions of Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, I checked the configuration box "Custom (advanced option" in which a new copy of Windows would be installed. The next screen that displayed contained the following bizzare message: no hard drive found. "Click on load a driver to provide a driver for installing mass storage.

Could someone tell me where and how to find the mass storage driver?

I am also having exactly the same problem:

After getting BSOD (indicating iaStor.sys) every 20 minutes or so I decided to format the laptop and install my copy of opportunity of Win7 Pro SP1. I jumped in the Win7 DVD and I saw that the couldn t of windows setup find any HARD drive to install to.

I downloaded the drivers from Intel (f6flpy - x 64) and them burned on a CD. It took me a few tries (I kept getting error messages), but the computer finally accepted Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller drivers.

Finally, I could see the readers. So I deleted the partition of 1 TB, created two new partitions (~ 100 GB and GB 890) and clicked on 'format' on two of them.

But when I tried to select ONE of them as the destination for Windows drive, I received the following message:

"Windows cannot be installed to Disk 0 Partition 3. Details: Windows cannot install to the selected location. "Error 0 x 80300001.

So now when I turn on my laptop (since there is no operating system or anything), I get a black screen with the following message:

    Windows Boot Manager «»

Windows could not start; A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To solve the problem:

    blablabla (nothing really useful)

    Status: 0xc0000034

Info: an unexpected error occurred. »

Before I read this thread I also tried to change the SATA settings to AHCI and ATA, but both STILL produce ANOTHER problem: installing Windows recognises the hard drives, but it never rose from 0% of the phase of "expanding files" installation.

    Please, can anyone help?

  • Installation of card mSATA on Inspiron 15R special edition (7520)

    Hey

I have the inspiron 15r is with 1 TB of HDD.

I would like to add an mSATA card to my system to use the TSRI.

    It is possible now?

I am skeptical because I've read online that the systems which were not delivered with 32 GB mSATA card, does not port mSATA for later installation.

When I bought the system at that time dell had the option to add card 32 GB mSATA in the customization section, but now, dell has removed the section full customization from the Web site. And in the pre-configured templates, there is no option for card mSATA.

Please remove this doubt and if possible to post pictures of the system and the daughter card where mSATA card can be installed.

If you need more details about the configuration of my system, feel free to ask.

    Thanks in advance

    Hey everybody!

All those who are willing to buy Dell Inspiron 15R edition special (7520) and want to update the system with card mSATA manually after the purchase, should know that there are two different configurations with which the system is sold. While on one of these configuration it is a mSATA port available on the (number N7JHH) daughter card in the system. While on the other configuration no mSATA port is available on the daughtercard (number MRDMM) present in the system.

Most of the Dell representatives have no information on this subject and they are declaring openly that mSATA cards are compatible with 7520. Don't go by their words and ask specifically if the above mentioned daughter card is present in the system or not. Only a very few of them are stating "If the system was not ordered with card mSATA probably your card mother daughter won't mSATA slot", that too after days of investigation.

If you hope to upgrade the system with card mSATA, then my advice to you would be to take a prudent decision before buying.

    See you soon!

  • Inspiron 15R special edition 7520 maximum memory is 16GB not 8GB!

The information you receive Dell says that the maximum Ram is 8 GB and they don't sell 2 X 8 GB of ram to upgrade. I bought for DDR3 1600 MHz revenge RAM P/N CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10 of CORSAIR and it works perfectly and tested perfectly. I also found a battery 9 cells that is guaranteed to work with my laptop. Dell does not sell a 9 cells for this laptop. I'll give an update on the battery as soon as I get it and test it.

All 16 GB are appearing in the bios - 16384 MB to be exact.

  • The battery life for inspiron 17r special edition or what to buy for College?

I am looking to buy a high mid range laptop for College. I need a laptop that can handle games, in addition to other activities of the College. I've narrowed my search up to three computers different portable all pretty much the same price, and now I don't know that we choose. My three choices are the occasional 17r, the xps 15 Inspiron and alienware m14x.

I'm leaning toward the inspiron because its cheaper than the other two and still a great internals. My only concern is the battery life. The battery is low, and I guess with the i7 and the screen 17 inch hd that the battery of the 17r will be terrible. I need something that's going to allow me to study on campus, if need is and be able to handle the TRIPS would be nice. So my question is... Are their any availble upgraded battery for editing special 17r? I saw a battery 9 cells, but it is not listed specifically as compatible with the Edition special 17r, just a 17r. If there is not, are their suggestions for greater autonomy on the road (without the usual stuff like processes of cutting and dimming of the screen).

Also, on a related note, the inspiron 17r will be able to manage the game well? I don't need a power plant, but I want something that can handle new games for the next two years even if I have to lower the settings as the games become more intense.

    Hi dtruax,

After sending two children to College, I went through this twice buying decision. The first thing I will say is that you're probably not going to carry your laptop on campus, almost as much as you think you will. And all equipped with gaps of a computer on campus, 17 "laptop will become quickly apparent. For the most part he'll be back at home. So the battery life is not as important as you might think.

Regarding the size, two of my students, who initially leaned over to a 17 "machine, were much more happy with a smaller screen (14" for my son, 15 "for my daughter), compared to their classmates with computers laptops 17".

The three models, the XPS is going to be the best for gaming. But I go back to the advice we have been given. Spend a little less on the laptop and a little more to get a 4 year complete care warranty. Many universities offer a 4 year warranty free and tech support if you buy through their Bookstore, which is what we did.

Hello, I just bought a dell inspiron 17r special edition, with a NVIDIA geforce gt 650 m, but when I run the NVIDIA card Board, I am not able to use it with display of how can I put the NVIDIA card to work?

It should be used by the application.  What you are trying to do (the nVidia chip by default) cannot be done - the GPU from Intel, by design, is always the default.

  • "Stop 0x000000A5 the BIOS of the system is not fully ACPI-compatible every time as the installation of a new windows 7 integral over Inspiron 15R N5110.

    Hello

I have installed Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on many brands of laptops, but when I installed it on Inspiron 15R N5110, (core i5 and 4GBRAM). I faced an error at startup of windows 7 after completing the installation.
NOTE: When the installation finished and restarted my computer, this window shown to me.

Two options from the two options above I chose, I found myself with the blue screen:

Error blue screen said something these ' BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI-compatible. Contact your system provider for an updated BIOS I don't know what that means and I don't know where is the culprit. I wish I could capture this error screen. However, it is impossible to do because I wasn't the Windows environment.

Even if the error related to BIOS necessary for the update, so how could I update as long as windows has not begun.

Is there something that needs to be configured in the BIOS before installing Windows 7 on Dell laptops.
I'm quite surprised that the previous system was windows 7, but it was Home Premium.

The strangest thing is when I tried to start to repair the disk and even disk instillation of Windows to resolve startup problems, I found that this startup repair couldn't fix problems.

When I tried to do these steps:

    1. Insert your Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer from the CD.

Note Some computers may require you change basic input/output system (BIOS) settings before you can start the computer from a CD-ROM. For more information about changing the BIOS, see your computer documentation.
    2. When the "Welcome" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
    3. If your computer is configured to dual-boot or multiple boot, select the appropriate installation of Windows XP.
    4. When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password and press ENTER.
Note By default, the administrator password is blank in Windows XP Home Edition.
    5. By default, Hiberfil.sys is usually located in the directory root (C:\). At the command prompt, type del hiberfil.sys and then press ENTER.
    6. Restart the computer.
When I arrived at "system recovery options, I saw that my system is listed, then I chose then, but I found myself with this ' this"system recovery options"version is not compatible with the version of windows that you are trying to fix." Try to use a different compatible with this version of windows recovery disk, even if I'm sure only that the same disk to install windows I have installed since.

NOTE: I do not add RAM or other devices. There is a windows 7 Home premium and I just re installed a windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I don't really know what the previous windows version 7 is 32 or 64 bit.
I checked the dell forum and I found ' your computer goto your BIOS F2

That goto advance Select ATA to instead of AHCPI save the setting, and then try to restart your Windows 7

    hope it will work. »

But he did not AHCPI, but I found AHCI and let ATA instead of AHCI, but no difference that happened.

    Hello

Check the steps suggested by LoneWolf1983 from the link below and see if it helps.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-hardware/stop-BIOS-not-fully-ACPI-compliant/25210db0-5491-4fc8-99c2-ec0361dd8388

Warning: Be careful when you change the BIOS settings. The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly. BIOS update should be made only if necessary (to solve a compatibility problem, for example). It can be a complicated process, and if an error occurs, your computer could be rendered inoperative. Be sure to observe the instructions of the manufacturer.

    Thank you very much

I checked this thread, and I found this solves the problem

I have changed the serial port in the BIOS for 2F8/IRQ3 and I have not had a blue screen since... fingers crossed, it's her!

But as you know that no matter what BIOS are different from others.

Thus, I have not found any serial port in the BIOS to be replaced by 2F8/IRQ3

NOTE: My problem is when you install a new version of Windows.

In addition, every time a new windows installation 7 and facing the Blue error screen, I started to Macrium Rescue CD and clicked "fix windows startup", and then when restart my windows, I was not facing the the Blue error screen. If windows starts successfully.

If the blue screen error was tied to the BIOS, the Refelct Macrium rescue CD wouldn't no matter what (not know this problem)

  • Black screen after Windows Update 8.1 in Dell Inspiron 15R 5537

    Hi guys,.

Hello, I have updated my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop 5537 Windows 8 Pro to Windows Pro 8.1 by using the Application Store.

After a wait of nearly 6 hours, update has been made and after the installation of Windows, display was black, cursor blinking... I checked in the Microsoft Web site, and I found that not only me and a lot of Dell customers are facing the same question. I luckily managed to start in safe mode and I uninstalled both of my video drivers and I'm back to my windows 8.1. After that I updated my video drivers as shown in the link below, always my screen turns off. If I had no other choice than the reset my pc to windows 8 pro.

    Driver video link: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/inspiron-15r-5537?driverId=PWTRP&osCode=W864&fileId=3287401962&languageCode=en&categoryId=VI

When I was checking for the latest version of the driver for Intel Graphics & AMD Radeon that supports windows 8.1, I am able to find a driver on the dell Web site.

http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/SG/en/sgdhs1/DriverDetails/product/Inspiron-17R-5737?driverId=6GGGM why it is not being updated in the list of corresponding product drivers... In fact I think that it is the fix. I'm not sure.

If one has updated and I need technical support dell for this

    Hi guys,.

After much research, I understand that is the problem because of the Intel video driver. There is a beta Intel video driver package that supports Windows 8.1. Try this update package and display your results. As I've already restored to windows 8. It will take at least 4 to 6 hours to update me the State. The link below is for Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 model.

http://FTP.Dell.com/published/pages/Inspiron-15R-5537.html and install Intel HD Graphics Driver ver 10.18.10.3308 4400. You must follow the link because this driver is not yet downloaded in Dell drivers & downloads (referred in Dell Post)

  • Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10

I have dell 15R (N5010) and have problems with the audio drivers. When I upgrade to Windows 10 my audio drivers not working and have no sound. I spoke with the community of Microsof, he send to dell... It's a rly funny because dell allow users of portable computers more former because they have no benefits for this. The warranty is over so bye :) Can someone help me?

Attention to anyone reading this thread:

Make sure you know the name of your template before you install a driver!

The topic of this thread is "Dell inspiron 15R n5010 no sound, Windows 10. The problem is that there is no model with this exact name. There is an Inspiron N5010 from 15and an Inspiron 15R N5110.

They are different models and different drivers. In other words, the audio driver for the N5010 is not intended for the N5110 and vice versa.

To complicate matters, someone named aimeehuang posted in this thread and put in a link named "dell 15r n5010 drivers download. But if you click on the link it goes to a page for Inspiron 15R N5110.

The person named 'aimeehuang' is not used on this discussion forum and probably got confused model names.

Check the name of your model. If you have an Inspiron 15 N5010, use driver IDT audio R280657. It is intended for Win7, so install in Win10 using compatibility mode (instructions below).

If you have an Inspiron 15R N5110, use the IDT 6.10.0.6421 audio driver. It is intended for Windows 8. He could install without problems in Win10, but if there is a problem, install it using compatibility mode (instructions below).

    1. download and save the audio driver on your computer or to any location on the hard drive...
    2. double-click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the files of the driver.
    3. the wizard of the extractor will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be located at the "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Note the exact location that the wizard creates.
    4. If the driver begins to install automatically, stop (cancel) installation.
    5. search for the driver files on the hard drive (the location you noted).
    6. find the file "setup.exe".
    7. right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.
    8. Select Properties.
    9. Select the Compatibility tab.
    10. check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Win7 (or Win8 if you install the Win8 to the N5110 driver).

  • How to record voice on my Dell Inspiron 15R laptop not touch?

    Hello

I'm getting used to my new Dell Inspiror 15R laptop and I am wanting to record some audio tracks I can then download on soundcloud or youtube.  I see a jack for headphones on the side of the computer, but I do not have a microphone.  Is there a built-in to the computer?  Or I have to buy a microphone?  Can I make voice recording with headphones (like the kind you would for Skype with)?  My computer came with the built software with which I can record and edit my audio tracks?

    Thank you!

    sburdick

Hello. There are about 4 different models that Dell sold under the generic name of the Inspiron 15R, so if you need more help, please include the complete of the laptop model name and the name of your operating system.

All current Dell laptops have established in the PRI. Set top, right click on the audio icon on the taskbar (or if you have Windows 8, you'll need to get to the office, I'm not sure), then click on "recording devices". The sound properties will be open on the recording tab find the internal microphone in the list and right-click on it, then click on "enable", click "set as default device".

As an option, while the micro internal is still selected (highlighted), click 'Properties', then the levels tab. This is when you set the volume level for the microphone.

With respect to the recording software, there are very probably only Windows Sound Recorder, which is pretty bare bones. You can use it to test the microphone. To open it, type sound recorder in the search box.

For serious recording and editing you should buy a graphic audio recording program, or download the free program Audacity. Just google Audacity.

With regard to external policy: If there is only one socket on the laptop case, then you have one of the models with a Jack "combo". That kind of jack will not support a regular computer microphone. Catches combined work with smart phone type of headsets, which combine a microphone and headphones in one single take. You can tell if you have this kind of helmet because the connector has 4 segments instead of the normal 3 segments on a stereo plug.

The combined catch take care of normal headphones.

The combined catches do not support stereo plug-in software component line.

You can get an adapter to make a combo Jack accepts a normal computer microphone, but an adapter cannot make a plug combo stereo support line snap. To the stereo line you would need an adapter usb audio that has a line-in socket - that is to say if your computer only has a combo Jack.
