Installation of VMWare Workstation 11 freezes with gray screen!

Hello

I know this is a very known issue, but difficult to solve, I can't install VMWare Workstation V11 (tried with the old version 8, the same) since as soon as I click Setup, I have a gray screen and installation seems suspended it.

Tried the same thing with VMWare Player, same result, even with older versions...

No way to close the gray screen, unless you kill the process.

My case is laptop Thinkpad T510, native W7 64-bit, processor Intel i5, 4 GB ram, Java utility installed and 100% updated, Nvidia GPU, nothing strange.

Microsoft Security essential only running, no other AV or firewall...

I tried to save two files reading autour on this community, but this does not solve the problem.

I see not what is a well known problem and it is absurd does not have a way to solve it on VMWare...

Any help is very appreciated!

Thank you very much

VMware Workstation 6.x do not support Windows 10 and will never support Windows 10.

VMware Workstation 6.x reached "end of support" four years, October 1, 2011: Matrix.pdf product lifecycle

We produce updates for release until its date of "end of support".  A product may not work properly with host OSes, processors or comments OSes that are not compatible with the product, especially the things that have been published after the date of "end of support".  We put a huge amount of effort to ensure that new hardware and operating systems works with each new major release of VMware Workstation, but we cannot go back and update any previous version of product to add support for all hardware and operating systems more recent.  If we tried to do this, VMware Workstation cost much more that it is today, simply because of the amount of work required to maintain!

You need to upgrade your installation of VMware Workstation to something more recent, or downgrade your host operating system to a version compatible with VMware Workstation 6.5.

    I hope this helps!

  • My iPhone freeze with grey screen, then restart only. Subsequently, the Wifi is not available, I have to finish manually restart.

My iPhone freeze with grey screen, then restart only. Subsequently the Wifi is not available, I have to finish manually restart to be able to use the Wifi. I have restart my internet and network settings, but the problem is still there.

    Hi there Turco911,

Looks like your screen goes gray and then shuts down its own, and you must manually restart to get the wifi to work again. I save your device in iTunes, then restore it like new and verify that it works.

How to clear your iOS device and then set up as a new device or restore from backups

If this is the case, restore your backup either check it still works and just reinstalled software or circumvent the problem in the backup file itself.

If when restored like new the problem persists, I would ask for your phone service:

    Repair - iPhone Apple Support

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support, all the best!

    Hi all

The MSI failed with the error message as "could not write value vmware - tray.exe in \SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows'CurrentVersion\Run key.  Make sure you have fufficient access to that key, or contact your support staff' while trying to install vmware workstation 11.1.0 in windows 8.1.
I tried to call the installer with run as administrator but it does not help, please suggest me overcome this error.

Hi Vincentand welcome to the VMware communities!

This error indicates that you have some security software (antivirus or antimalware software) that protects the part of the registry.  Can you try to temporarily disable all security software on your host computer and see if the installation can move forward?

    See you soon,.

  • VMware workstation 7.0 with tools freezes and is inaccessible intermittently. Then recovers as if nothing had happened

          1. Given Info:

Host server: HP 585g 5 series with 2 x Quad Core AMD procs and 32 GB of RAM.

Host operating system: RHEL5U4 64-bit with no other applications installed except vmware workstation 7.0

VMware Guest storage device: we use a NAS (5 X 1 TB SATA disks) on the same subnet as the host server running Jumbo frames. (Since the introduction of the SIN, we migrated virtual machine of the local/u01 to nfs mounted IP: / vmimages using hard materials & wsize and rsize = 32768)

VMware Guest: 2 X OEL4U7 & 2 RHEL4U8 X 64-bit (all have completely disc and 5 GB or 8 GB of RAM) during the construction of each virtual computer we select the procs and 2cores by proc, giving to each 4procs of the machine. All machines are bridge with their own Maildo IP do not necessarily all the VMS at the same time, but we do not run a pair of them for development and testing. We have vmware tools installed on all of our virtual machine. We aren't on a network of single private from the internet so it didn't there virtually no chance that I would be allowed to get the newspaper.

      1. Unknown problem

During the execution of our virtual machine, we'll do the normal work (construction of an Oracle database) and then exit no where the screen freezes.  When this happens, it may be 30 sec, up to 5 minutes or more before the screen becomes available. developers discovered question b/c they could get kicked from the server (ssh); and then she started to occur frequently on the console as well. I have a monitor server that I use to ping the machine while it hangs and when I ping the ip address of the virtual machine that freezes up, it will return the host is unreachable, then all of a sudden the ping works, and life resumes. I have not all snapshot settings or anything like that set up.

The first looking through discussions, we thought it was our problem mounting NFS or the time sync issue b/n host and VM, we very well those who listen now, but nothing helped.

-One of our colleagues believe it might have something to do with the use of multiple processors, instead he Recon using a proc by VM and a carrot...

Question: what I read, in the best practices of VMware, we should be good, but do not know why we freeze all the time. Help, please.

    Hello

If you have opened a support case I can't help you any further.

I don't work for VMware and do not have access to these areas

  • Installation of VMware workstation in a machine with vmware server 2.0 is already installed?

is it possible to install the latest version of vmware workstation (I guess that's 6.5) in a machine where vmware server 2.0 is already installed? where possible there at - it something I should know before installing vmware workstation (eg. problems known, network suspends etc.)? in particual I am a little concerned network mangement (eg. both vmware server and vmware workstation in fact add virtaul adapters: is a possible trouble caouse?). The host of the virtual machine is vista ultimate x 64 with 8gig of ram and a quad core cpu.

I did a little research, and from what I understand, this was not possible with vmware server 1.0 x.. as the situation has changed with vmware server 2.0?

(in case you are wondering why I sholud be willing to do):

I worked with vm ware Server 2.0 for about a year, but now I miss some of the features that are only present in vmware workstation: multiple snapshot and clone VM vm ware server... However is much more flexible when you don't have physical access to your VM host... so I was wondering if it is possible to get the best of both worlds : I would like to use vm ware workstation allows you to configure virtual machines and manage snapshots and vmware server to remotely manage virtual machines, I've created with workstation. Is it not possible?

Thanks in advance for your attention

Try changing your environment a simple C:\TEMP or C:\Windows\Temp folder variable.

    • Fedora is not a host for VMware Workstation/Player-supported operating system.  Note that although not officially supported as a host nevertheless operating system I run it under Fedora 20, but with the stock kernel.
    • I do not think that the 3.13.4 kernel is still supported, even on a supported host OSes.
  • Failed installation of VMware Workstation 9 on new install of win 7

I looked at the discussion of installation has failed VMware Workstation 9, verified that I am administrator, cleaned folder and looked at the registry and I'm still having problems.  The name of the account used is not Admin/Admin or anything close.

This is a new installation today of windows 7 with all updates applied.  Avast is my anti-virus software.  The behavior does not change with it running or disabled.

I think that the problem to be that KLM/Sofware/VMware Inc. does not appear.  I checked that I can create keys.

"In my installs I've seen: message" failure of the MSI MSI "and once"the MSI MSI failed. "  Authorization of VMware (VMAuthService) failed to start service.

Here are the logs from my last install.

Can someone provide me with more information about the problem and how to get this installed?

    Thank you

Finally got this resolved after many setup logs sent to VMware.  I came across the registry problems and VMAuthdServices fail to start due to software AV.

In short, following http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1031302 (KB1031302) is important as well as some comments from howellrj.  Here's what I did in detail and why during my various tests of installation:

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1031302

1 I used the only account on the system, which did not have a name as owner, admin, administrator, which has administrator privileges

2 wiped % TEMP % whenever I made an attempt to install

3 MS KB 942288 not recommended for Win7 so I jumped

4 no earlier version of VMware Workstation has been installed on the system, so I jumped

5 ran http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/en-us (MS KB2438651) whenever I made an attempt to install.  He has never found anything wrong

6 was not running WinXP so I jumped

7 has made run msconfig to disable all services and should follow https://support3.avast.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=1334 (Avast KB1334) to disable Avast self protection mode.  Even with Avast protection auto mode disabled and all the disabled Avast shields were always running and prevent.  The only way to clear the checkpoint was to remove Avast completely.

8 I ran sfc/scannow before each installation to be sure.  No problems have ever been found.

So, here is what I did to get the software installed successfully:

An item copied to my system

1 AV Installer on my system

2 use FixIt of MS KB 2438651

    Disconnected the network B

C restart the system with network not connected

    D removed Avast

E to restart the system with network not connected

    1 erase TEMP

2 Ran FixIt utility of MS KB 2438651

    3 ran sfc/scannow

    F install VMware Workstation

    G restart the system

    H check VMware Workstation starts

    I install Avast

    J stop the system

    K connecting to the network

L reboot the system with connected network

    M update Avast

    N reconfigure Avast

  • (Beginner) of the initial steps for the new installation of vmware workstation & guest os

Hi, very new for the virtual machine. I need help on what type of software (vmware), need and the first steps of the installation.

Current configuration: a portable 3 separate HD, 1 computer = Windows 7, 2 = XP, 3 is Linux RH. I have manually swap HD to work on each operating system.

Req: A laptop with Windows 7 as main OS and two other OS (XP and Linux) Guest.

    (1) I prefer not to install OS and the entire application again for the guest operating system (XP and linux), will like to convert, copy, etc.

    (2) can I install multiple OS (XP) for testing of applications and then delete them?

    (3) can I use a different version of an application in a guest operating system?

The software that I need to buy:

    VMware workstation 7.1

Version of the converted VMware?  (this may be free, I think)

    ThinApp 4. ???

If these are vmware software that I need is a step by step installation, in particular of the convert.

    Thank you, ralph

    Hi Raoul,.

    Welcome to the forums.

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone is a free download that is accessible to everyone, so you can use it to convert your existing machines.

For testing purposes, you can create a virtual machine "or" with all standard applications, and then use the function 'linked-clone"of the workstation. In this way, you can have several machines quickly with the same basic configuration to test different applications.

It is more complicated to have multiple versions of the same application in a single virtual machine. ThinApp seems to be the solution, but it should require the application packages (I have no experience with ThinApp) construction. It's a bit complicated just to test. Way the easiest would be to create a new virtual machine for each version of the application.

Workstation and the converter are very easy to install if you use a standard configuration.

    Good luck.

Hey guys, I'm trying to install vmware workstation 11,10 even though 9, but unfortunately it shows this kind of error every time.

then I try to install from appdata/local/temp, but it shows the error of capture4... I tried many things to fix this... but I failed...

So guys help me please install... sorely lacking...

    is my laptop config: core i5 - 3230M, ram - 4 GB os-win7 64 bit sp1...

    need help please...

    Welcome to the community,

the problem is probably caused by the apostrophe in the name of the folder of the user. Try at each logon with a different user (temporary) account, or change the temp/tmp environment variable to point to a different directory (existing), for example, "C:\TEMP".

  • VMware Player (VMware Workstation?) Interfere with the connection of the browser

I installed VMware Player (or so I think) on Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2.  Here's what the Properties tab - & gt; Details shows for "C:\Program VMware Player\vmplayer.exe:

Description of the file: VMware Player
    Type: Application
    File version: 6.5.4.11892
    Product name: VMware Workstation
    Product version: 6.5.4.11892
    Copyright: (c) 1998-2010 VMware, Inc..
    Size: 3.06 MB
    Updated: March 31, 2010 23:31
    Language: English (United States)

I looked for this in order to make the version of the-what? -VMware Player or VMware Workstation I, and in order to find the right users Guide or manual.

But this isn't my problem entirely.

My problem is that I was using my HTTP (browser) client and it has been noticed that I could not connect to certain websites (e.g., http://www.gnu.org/).  I can do that at home, through my wireless router (configured for IP) static on the local network.  Then I go to work where I use the ethernet connection (not getting any IP by DHCP!... configured for a static IP address on the WAN).  I call tech info, that says they can connect.  I think it's because I'm using OpenDNS instead of the name of University servers, and then I enter the "Network Sharing Center' and see 'several networks' and THREE Local (ethernet) connections.

After that think "WTF?" and think that 2 local connections and 3 are screwing things up, I disable all local connections and re-enable the connection with the hardware ethernet card.  Who has NOT solved the problem of my failed to connect to the web site, that is

    http://grub4dos.sourceforge.NET/

    The service

    http://GSiteCrawler.com/tools/server-status.aspx

reports the HTTP 200 response code very quickly.  I use this service to see if the info tech group workplace blocks a web site.

However, I want to learn more about virtual network maps created by the VMware Player (desktop?).  I ran the "vmnetcfg.exe" interface and in the Summary tab, see:

    Virtual network

    Subnet

    DHCP

    VMnet0 (bridged)

    255.255.255.255

    VMnet1 (host only)

    192.168.136.0

    Activated

    VMnet8 (NAT)

    192.168.219.0

    Activated

The guide I want to read should explain what are these local ethernet adapters and they can interfere with the operation of the host outside of the virtual machine.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the forums!

    The guide: http://pubs.vmware.com/ws7_ace26/ws_user/ws_net.html#989125

Where is your problem to browse occur? In comments or host?

VMnet0 is the virtual bridged network. He connected the virtual NETWORK adapter of your guests who are bridge transparently to your physical network device.

VMnet1 is the network invited only, a virtual, where the host and the guests are members of. You see a VMnet1 NIC on the host, because it's the virtual card that the host uses to connect to VMnet1.

VMnet8 is the NAT network. It connects to each stack TCP/IP Protocol on the host computer. Therefore the guest may use any communication device that uses TCP/IP. Th egust is hidden behind the NAT device. This means that all packets leaving the host, coming from the prompt appear to come from the host. VMnet8 virtual card is one that connects to the host on VMnet8 virtual network to enable external communication for the customer.
