Installation of WINDOWS HOME SERVER on a server that I just built. Driver problems.

I'll use my old office of 3 years of Dell (Inspiron 531) as a server. I will be installing WINDOWS HOME SERVER software on this subject. The vehicle currently has Vista Home Premium on it. Someone I know said I could have driver problems. Is this true? If it is that drivers enough to be responsible and how to see their loading? Chris Mah

We need a replacement for windows home server that does not cost as much as a PC. 2011 is not really available and 2008 has compatibility problems, because it is based on XP and Server 2003. None of the motherboard manufactures will support XP (thanks to MS) and more recent SATA drives do not work in my motherboard more old.

  • Installation of Windows Home Server 2010 on Proliant N40L

Does anyone know if Windows Home Server 2010 will install on a Proliant N40L without having to install additional device (for configuring SATA RAID) drivers.

I can't install again, that my DVD drive is IDE not SATA, I'm waiting for a new. Once this drive shows up, I'll be able to find out for me.

Well, the answer was that the installation went very well. I didn't do anything to Windows Server 2011 to recognize the RAID adapter.

  • EA6500 - installation of Windows Home Server 2011 UPN program

Can you please ge to work on that. I like the access to files on the road and I manually configure the router from UPN did not work, but occasionally it is unavailable. The running configuration via the Windows Home Server interface always fails at the step of port forwarding and tells me to put in place manually.

Can't we at least try the reset and see if that will help. If ever after the reset and reconfiguration, get you the same question, especially on this particular device on the list several times, it may be a router issue and possibly a firmware issue.

  • Activate Windows 7 on a virtual machine on my Windows Home Server machine using my product key. I no longer use the complete installation. Am I in Windows license terms?

I did virtualization p2v Windows Home Server 1 on an external drive using VMWare. I no longer use the physical instalation. The virtual machine has asked for activation on my laptop Windows 7 and worked well online. I'm in the terms of the Windows license?

Please note that Windows Home Server is an OEM product which means, it is not intended to be transferred from one computer to another.

Tried to install OEM Windows Home Server 2011 integrated custom server with ASUS M489GTD Pro Mobo and AMD Phenom IIx6 1055 t processor. Installation (3 attempts) would not end when network devices do not have to be found. Having read a number of user group locations and found amount of siginficant discussion on similar type problems. Searched and copied device USB and NIC brand drivers but the installation of WHS 2011 has been unsuccessful. Have since with success installed Windows 8 Preview of consumer on the server by using 'Device Manager' to find installed drivers located in appropriate files and C: / drive. Question: a plan 'best case' would try to do a new installation install WHS 2011 on my server or to an 'upgrade' type which may keep the driver folders/files? Thank you

  • Non-native install copy of Windows Home Server

Hi, I was hoping that someone could erase something for me.

I have an OEM of Windows Home Server 2011 version that I bought in England, when he arrived in the post that I realized that it is a German copy, probably why it was so cheap.

I'm not really bothered about it, if I can just change the language during or even after the installation. My question is this a problem or problem further down the line or the whole operating system will be identical to a UK copy if I change the language and regional settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd rather not go back if I can't.

  • 2011 on hp ex495 windows home server setup

I have a HP Ex495 running the former home server, I want to upgrade to Windows Home Server 2011.  The EX 495 has no dvd player, no port monitor and keyboard/mouse.

I tried to install WHS 2011 by loading a disk to another computer and then transfer this player to the EX 495.  The installation is completed without error on the own dirve, but the EX 495 will not load the player created on another computer.

There are comments on the web that the 2011 WHS can be installed by using a client, but there are no links that I can find of this process.  There are comments that show how to load WHS 2011 using a flash drive and an ini file.  But the ini file does not look to contain the answers to the many questions that arise during the installation process.

What is the best way to install WHS 2011 on a HP EX 495?

  • Windows Home Server help please with the reader.

I have a Windows Home server in my office that has a single hard drive in it.  I continue to be told to use the repair utility when I turn on my computer.  I bought a new drive for the server.  Now that I need help, it's how to duplicate the new disc of the former, is there a way to do it, or do I have to copy all the content on another machine on the network, and then install the operating system from the beginning.  I want to avoid the loss of data.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are essentially two options available

Place the new drive as the primary drive and keep the original as a secondary disk. Install WHS as a repair install and it should pick up original and index folders and re-create the tombstones for them. Then use the move to folder option in the console to make the folders shared the second partition of the disk. However, the indexing process is quite intensive and is perhaps not ideal with a line of demarcation for lack of drive.

Alternative, remove the old drive and install the new, install WHS as a new facility that will create partitions C and D, including the new shared folders empty. Once the installation is finished, put the old one in as second drive or if this is not possible an external drive dock and then copy the contents of the old drive in the new. That would be my preferred option because it is perhaps easier and safer.

There is no option to save and copy and settings users, even with a repair installation, you must manually recreate the users.
