  • XP system backup and restore for XP Mode in Windows 7 Pro

We have many customers finally replace their XP computers with new systems, but some require old software XP can easily be upgraded or replaced.

We can always clone their slow HDD to a new SSD in a new system and repair the hard disk controller, but then they still run XP.

Does anyone know of a Windows XP backup procedure (NTbackup, System Migration tool, Acronis image of the system, etc.) and then on a computer installed Windows 7 Pro with XP Mode, restore the backup to the computer in XP Mode?  In this way, they have Windows 7 for new software and can easily "initialize" their virtual XP machine?

Would seek essentially to restore a mirror image of XP so that programs are intact.

We could do something other than XP mode too - VirtualBox or VMWare would be nice too.

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

  • Where are the files save in Windows XP mode on Windows 7 pro

Mode windows Xp when you save an image or files, where can you find the files on the local drive outside Windows xp mode using windows 7?

    Hello

If the files have been saved in the computer of the XP mode and it does not work, that you cannot access because all of the XP-Mode computer with its data is stored on a single large file VHD.

You can configure the Win7 & XP to share files, then you can use both, as if they were two computers on a network and access files between them when the XP Mode is running through the network.

You can also mount the VHD XP-Mode file as a virtual drive and access part of its content, but if you make a mistake and you lose something XP Mode can get damaged.

  • Installation of XP Mode on Windows 7 Enterprise x 64 fails to reboot and restore the settings

I just got my new machine that has Windows 7 Enterprise x 64 SP1.  I try to install XP mode.  Following the instructions on the Windows XP Mode download on this site. I was able to install XP Mode using the installation program downloaded, it (WindowsXPMode_en - us.exe). I rebooted the machine.  Then I tried to install: Windows6. 1 KB958559 - x 64 - RefreshPkg.msu

The package installs and then want to reboot.  After the reboot, when it arrives at the end of the installation. It-error and return rollers.  What I am doing wrong?  I tried to uninstall and reinstall XP Mode, including going back to my restoration shows until I started this.

After XP Mode installed, I get all the entries for the XP mode in my Start menu under all programs.  I do not have the folder C:\Program Files\Windows XP Mode

I read this page.  I understood the question.  When I got my new machine, they had installed Windows Virtual PC 2007, which shows only as Windows Virtual PC on the start menu.  I watched the video on installing it and noticed that the Virtual PC, I had in my Start menu was not a record.  Looking at the installed programs showed me this gap. Uninstall allowed KB958559 must be installed.  Everything worked as expected from there.  Thank you.

  • Installation of WinHelp32.exe on Windows 8 Pro

I am installed WinHelp32.exe on Windows8 Pro (64-bit). I go to the Microsoft support site and download:

    Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu.

On a double click to install I get the message "this update is not applicable to your computer.

    Any suggestions?

    Retired2006

On Windows 8 x 64, I also want to access a file using an old application I use every day. I found the same problems and the same solutions above worked for me-

Problem 1 - Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu refuses to install with the message "this update is not applicable to your computer".

Solution 1 - get the old winhlp32.exe to http://www.eightforums.com/software-apps/7540-winhlp32-exe-how-can-i-enable-legacy-windows-help-system-windows-8-a.html. Then, faced with...

Problem 2 - I'm impossible to rename or delete the stub of winhlp32.exe in \Windows, so cannot replace the winhlp32.exe legacy that could actually work

Solution 2 - follow the procedure given in http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-delete-a-system-file-in-windows-vista/ to appropriate \Windows\winhlp32.exe, rename and copy winhlp32.exe inheritance in. Windows. Result: old help file can now be read.

You can also - use of language of the control panel configuration/addition to install & enable English (United States) - took a time, required restarts, showed the error message (default in Windows), but finally worked. (NB. before restarting, make sure that you know how to enter special characters in your password on a US English keyboard.)

Then, with active American English, Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu installs and you get a more updated version of winhlp32.exe.

Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu is enabled only for users of the English (United States)? Looks like that the Microsoft quality control slipped seriously with Windows 8, particularly with the updates.

  • Problems with USB devices in Windows XP Mode on Windows 7 Pro

I have a Palm Zire 21 that I use with ACT! Contact Manager to keep track of my appointments.  I was able to sync the Palm with my ACT database until this week. The device appears on the list of USB devices, but does not connect to Windows XP mode.

I used this device in XP Mode since August without any problem.  Last week, I started having problems with the integration of XP features and had to uninstall and reinstall the integration features a few times.  I think I have a corrupted somewhere driver.

    Any help would be appreciated.

No need to comment unless you have more insight.

I solved the problem myself.  In XP mode, I went to the Device Manager and scroll down to USB controllers.  A virtualization USB bus drivers showed a problem.   I uninstalled this device and then managed to reinstall my Palm correctly after connecting it to the USB port, and then going back to the menu at the top of the XP USB mode screen and hit connect when I saw my camera.  The device connected in XP automatically and I was off to the races.

  • Problem installing XP Mode in Windows 7 Pro (64) SP1

XP mode has been successfully installed, but does not have Virtual PC. I downloaded the correct file - Windows6. 1 - KB958559 - x 64 - RefreshPkg.msu - and when I try to install it I get this update is already installed on my computer - but Virtual PC does not. What now?

Thanks for any advice that can be offered.

  • Workstation 6 and the XP Mode from Windows 7 Pro

    Hello

I wonder if somone can offer some advice?

I am running Workstation 6.0.2 build 59824 - I recently created a Windows 7 professional virtual machine under the ' option (experimental) Edition of Windows Server 2008 x 64. Successfully installed Windows 7 and it works fine.

However, I now have a need to run it in XP Mode to run legacy applications.

I successfully installed XP Mode, but when I run it, I get this message:

Cannot start windows virtual pc because hardware virtualization support is disabled.

I downloaded the utility HAV to check if she is capable of hardware virtualization, which checked OK.

    My PC is a HP DX5750 (AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core 4200 +, 2.19 Ghz, 3.00 RAM).

There is an option in the BIOS called "Virtualization Technology", which I ACTIVATED.

But I think there may be something I need to change in the VMWARE Workstation environment, perhaps in the vmx configuration file?

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thank you.

    Dave.

Workstation 6 is not virtualize vitualization material assistance of the physical processor features.  To do this, it should be at least Workstation 8 and an AMD processor with the IVR support.

However, there is a patch for Windows Virtual PC that will allow the use of binary translation instead of hardware-assisted virtualization.  See http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/03/18/windows-virtual-pc-no-hardware-virtualization-update-now-available-for-download.aspx

It will be slow running a VM nested this way.

  • 21 of Firefox will work only in the admin. mode on Windows 7 Pro. Also, when I installed FF21 it came with a nasty virus.

These are the details. 21 FF does not work on my system, unless I choose Run as administrator. So far, none of the assumptions posted by your technical support on this issue in the past have worked.

I removed the virus and removed FF and reinstalled. The same problem. I still totally deleted and reinstalled, same problem. I installed it again under an Admin account and I still have the same problem. All previous versions of FF worked fine in user mode.

    • You have problems with programs
    • Error messages
    • Recent changes to your computer
    • What you have already tried to solve the problem

  • Windows XP Pro Installation Disc

I know that you do not supported Windows XP more, but... I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop. Now, I need to reinstall the OS, but of course, have no installation CD. It's Windows XP Pro and the product key is on the label. I want to stay with XP for now. Is there anywhere I can download the installation on a CD disc?

Unfortunately not.  But is you know someone who has a Windows XP computer with the XP CD "commercial" version see if they'll let you borrow it so you can re - install XP.

Once installation is complete you check the manufacture of mobile support site to see if they still list the drivers XP, you will need to download and install.

Also consider making a backup of the Image on an external USB drive as a means of protection if you need to re - install XP, simply use the most recent backup) of the drive if you ae able to install and activate XP using your key successfully.
