Installation owned a copy of Vista in Virtual Box

I bought a computer from the bridge are contiguous 3 years ago which had installed Vista. Now, I want to run the same copy of Vista in a virtual machine.

The copy of Vista is installed and working, but it says that I have 7 days to activate.

(1) 2 digits of the product key rubbed off the coast of the tag on the computer. I downloaded a program that pulled a product key that was different from the key on the computer.

(2) 2 digits of the product key rubbed off the coast of the tag on the computer.

Issues related to the:

(1) am legally obligated to purchase a new copy of Vista, even if it runs on the same physical machine?

(2) is there a way to restore the 2 missing digits of the product key?

(3) what channels is here to help? (Technical support insisted charge me and it was cheaper than buying a new copy of Vista).

I'm using Linux as the host operating system => so I have 1 Vista installation. Sorry, I should clarify that.

I thought that I have to buy another copy.

Why don't you double start instead of having vista in a virtual machine

http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vista_with_linux_vista_installed_first.htm

http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vista_with_linux_linux_is_already_installed.htm

your question is now complicated in its current form

you have a version of vista installed and not activated and the product key sticker is missing 2-digit

the manufacturers found pk program installation product key will be different from the product key on the sticker on the computer

and we can't help you find the missing numbers 2 in any case that vista is not already activated

but the recovery disc if reinstalled on the original material normally requires no entry of a product key during installation

It's to take you where that it from here

just my suggestion

I would like to do a recovery vista back to how it was when you bought it then set up a new dual boot with your linux system

    Hello

    There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

    See how best suits you.

    This can help you:

    http://www.heidoc.NET/Joomla/technology-science/Microsoft/57-Windows-Vista-direct-download-links

    You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

    They should do this for a small fee.

    To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

    You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

    How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

    "How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

    And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery on the drive Partition hard reinstall Windows how much you bought your computer.

    The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

    Ask them to the proper key sequence.

    And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

    Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

    If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

    Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

    If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

    You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

    Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

    And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

    "How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

    And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

    And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Reuse an old copy of Vista Business 32-bit

    Hello

    I have a copy of Vista Business 32 bit that I bought so at College and I wanted to install it on a laptop more old that I have (just something to have on the laptop to make it usable until I can buy a copy of Windows 7). I went through the installation process and when I was asked to validate the key on the DVD that I got a "the code you entered is in use, please type a different code" or something of the sort. At this point, I remembered that I used the DVD a few years trying to fix a computer for my mother. This computer has since surpassed this world. My question is this: is there a way to get that code off or released so that I can use it on another computer. I have the original disk and COA code for the disk. I just don't remember if it was a one time use or not and if it's possible. Otherwise it's not a big deal, as I said I am decided on buying a copy of 7, just do not know when, was just a shot in the water the hopes that I could reuse the old code.

    As long as the code is not still active elsewhere, you are free to use forever once again, on any computer (one at a time).

    To reset the number of activations, just call the number 1-800 that shows on this error message.  Tell the operator and they will reset the meter and it let you to install again.

  • I've just upgraded my pc to windows 7. I tried to install my copy of vista on another pc, but I'm told that the validation key is not good. Do I need a new key?

    need a new key for installation to install my old copy of vista on a new computer. I upgraded windows 7 which was the copy of vista on the pc

    And if your copy of Vista was preinstalled on your old computer, it is classified as an OEM license is not transferable.

    The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
    You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop.

    You can transfer a license of Vista to retail, not an OEM license.

    I got a new computer (an old dies) new a windows vista and I have to disable the old computer before I load the same copy of Vista on my new computer.  If yes how can I do this?

    If Vista is preinstalled on your OLD computer, it is classified as an OEM license and is not transferable.

    The license of Vista OEM is related to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
    You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

    But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

  • Can I use my copy of Vista Business upgrade retail a computer with Windows XP Pro?

    Upgrade/license transfer

    I have purchase Windows 7 business plan and upgrade my Vista Business retail version to Windows 7 Pro.  Can I use my copy of Vista Business upgrade retail a computer with Windows XP Pro?

    If you use the license professional Vista as the operating system with a Windows 7 Pro upgrade license then no, you can't continue with Business.

    If you use a copy of the licence of right (standard retail) Windows 7 Pro then Yes, you can reuse the company to upgrade XP.

    Upgrade license replaces the license qualify you for the upgrade license.  That's why the price is reduced from the price of a copy of the full license.  In this case, a license of Windows 7 Upgrade binding Vista Business license to the Windows 7 Pro license and operating permits would be free not to use it elsewhere.

    How install Windows 7 Pro has no importance.  If you use an installation upgrade or new installation method, what matters is the license of Windows 7, to level or standard (full).

    Buy a copy of the full license of Windows 7 Pro to do what you are suggesting.

    Hello

    I found this information for you:

    "First of all, go to your computer manufacturer's website and check if your computer model has XP drivers available for it...

    If the XP drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.

    If Yes, download and save to a CD or Flash drive.

    Save all your data because it will be lost during the installation of XP.

    Then follow the steps below to do a clean install.

    Once installed, reload ALL your other programs of original media, or download again.

    Reload all drivers and utilities for your motherboard. »

    • I recently bought a complete sales of Windows 7 install Microsoft. Is it possible to install this on my Toshiba and legally install Vista (currently installed in Toshiba OS system) as a virtual machine. I guess that since Vista provided with the laptop (no drive included), it can not remove and reinstall as a virtual machine, but any advice would be appreciated. Thank you

    I would say no, for two reasons.  First of all, the copy of Vista is allowed to the original computer, not to a virtual machine; Secondly, because it is an OEM copy and probably in the form of system restore disks, there quite probably locked to the BIOS of the original machine and the virtual machine does not contain the correct ID so it doesn't settle not in any case.

  • When you get a retailer to re - install Vista are you able to burn a copy of Vista as when he was the first new and turned on for the first time?

    Hello and Merry Christmas to all. Sorry its been a while that I had time to be on the forum, (family illness) Anywho my daughter had dropped her Lenovo and although we went through every conceiveable options to retrieve and detaches from the dreaded "black screen" we couldn't. We had the chance to recover his files before he died forever! That was the good part... I had to resume at Tiger Direct, where they installed a new concert 320 H/D and re-installed Vista. Because she graduated she had two of the residence and turned my basement into a hoarders paradise, lol point being that she has no idea where his original disk is so I contacted Lenovo who assured me that they would send me a copy of Vista (how naïve of me) they me sent recovery disc (two games not less and it took more than a month!) that I discovered after the fact that I could have burned my own through Neo-Smart...

    There is one thing that still bothers me and that's when we first pulled his new Lap Top for the first time and installed Vista I remembered that the very last paragraph said to make your own copy of the o/s before your done... what was not done! Is it still possible to make a copy of its operating system now? If Yes, how would go about this, if I wait for her to do it, it will not! She was lucky that I was able to use a slave to its hard disk of my XP Sata-IDE cable and get its files on the drive before it me locked. It has an external H/D as most of the people who do not know how to change their scores on the top of their Tower and get the full use out of them as desk top users do.

    I have a situation, where I'd like to perform a recovery on an ACER laptop to restore factory settings, however I have no CD to go with it. I have a long history here, perhaps someone more familiar with laptops and Vista installation can suggest where to begin the search, or the place where process? I am VERY familiar with the repair of Windows 95, 98, 2000, and XP is installed on desktop computers, but you don't master with Vista. I also have little experience with laptops and am not sure if the laptop has a recovery partition which can restore the factory settings or if it's just a thing of emergency repair, as my investigation into what was wrong with the laptop was a little weird. I'll do a post that is a bit of a long story, but it should show my process of thought as well as my skill level. I spent

    A knowledge of my friends has recently undergone a crash of hard disk on his laptop computer, although he didn't know exactly what was the problem at the time. Fortunately there is nothing on the drive that does not saved except for the OS.

    At first glance, it appeared that the hard drive was bad, and he went out and bought a new laptop. Outings, I was informed about this and they asked if I wanted this one for parts or to try to fix it if I could.

    After receiving the laptop, I decided to check what was wrong. I tried to turn on immediately, before even to sort out the power cord, but nothing happened. He was dead. The laptop was unused for several days before being delivered to me. Thinking that was the problem, I have dispaired that I never changed a power supply in a laptop. However, for the heck of it, I plugged in the power cord and to my surprise, it started. This dead battery may be important later.

    He has been starting some sort of partition repair which gave me access to repair system I since lost access to. The thing was, when I got to the screen that says "System Recovery Options" with the "motor load' and 'next' boxes at the bottom, no OS installs were neither were all partitions.

    I got to the menu where it gave me options, with "command prompt" downstairs. I just assumed it was like the XP Recovery console and I tried to use it as such.

    They gave me a "X:\windows\system32" prompt, which I thought was weird, because it's the X drive instead of drive C. The people in question can barely use a computer, so they would not have reassigned the drive letter.

    I did dir c: and had an error on drive c. be corrupted. Also, I did a dir d: and get "file not found" that seemed weird. It turns out that the E drive was the dvd - rom, then I discovered. Other letters gave errors and invalid letters.

    I decided to start with the basics, and I used the command chkdsk on drives C and D. To my surprise, that seemed to do the trick, and after restart I was taken in the Welcome screen.

    Restart at first seemed to be a mistake, as I have since not managed to find a way to return to this menu of repair and subsequent attempts through the Vista Start menu (or whatever you call the menu that is displayed when hitting F8 these days.) Its name has changed between Windows 95 and xP) need the administrator password.

    I was to call back them and get the password from them, and I'd have to try to use one of the solutions 'password lost admin, cannot connect', I didn't know if it would be a good idea on a potentially damaged system of mud autour with registry hacks.

    At that time, it was late in the day and I had a few other things to do. I decided to start with Windows Defender antivirus scans and the tread Micro antivirus, that have been installed. He had a subscription to the microphone of the tread, so I connected the laptop to my programmer, updated definitions and performed a full scan.

    The two negative came scans, with the exception of a few tracking cookies. At this point, it was late and I was tiered, so I all stop and went to bed. I had disconnected the laptop to my switch and it sat in my bedroom next to the bed.

    Around 01:00 a.m., I was awakened by a strong and heard the WHIR of the laptop sounds beep. The computer had apparently turned on, but when I opened the file, the screen doesn't have to turn on. Think of some sort of virus or Trojan was at fault, since a disconnected laptop should be on NOT himself in the middle of the night, I hit the power button to turn it off, and he succeeded.

    In the morning, I tried to install malwarebytes and run a scan and it found several things he called Trojan horses, as well as some adware. I removed it.

    I have found it useful to keep on the laptop, and rather than to try to clean it up, I would like to reinstall from scratch.

    I looked on the internet and found that most Acer laptops should have their accessible restore partitions by pressing control-f10 or alt + f10.

    Here's the strange thing. I did, and it started working. However, I had a Windows XP startup screen and it says "Windows XP".

    The laptop is running Vista Home Premium, and there a House premium sticker product key OEM on the bottom. If the recovery partition installed XP and asks me a product key XP, I'm GROUND.

    I have an OEM copy of Vista, but it's for a 4200DX gateway. Somehow I doubt that it will help you for the upgrade of the Vista laptop. Any suggestions?

    Jumped the gun in the abandonment of the XP, need it install Vista?

    The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5570Z according to the engraving on the front.

    On the back it says:

    MFG. Date: 0706 Aspire 5570-2067

    Yes, suggestions? I could try to clean install, but it is probably better to start from scratch. On the other hand, have XP is probably a better choice, because the laptop has only 1 GB of RAM. Possibility to choose, I would choose XP on 7 or Vistafor this computer, but which leaves me with the problem of a product key.

    If the recovery partition is indeed a XP product key, is it possible that Microsoft would leave me to transfer the license from a dead Tower brand OEM copy of XP home to this laptop? I doubt that the key of this death dell sticker product could work on this laptop, but it would be worth it. I need a new key, and they could indicate the old key as invalid with Windows Genuine Advantage and refuse to turn it on.

    Suggest that call you Acer to see if they can make any sense out of it.

    Some restore partitions when launched as the emachines PC (I fixed in the last days) installed XP preactivated and no key was needed.

  • Lost my copy of Vista how do a new drive, I have the product key

    Hi I have lost my copy of Vista home premium and hard drive passed to the West, and I don't have the disk that I lost I have the key to produce what can do thank you very much. M F

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
