  Step 1: Check if Windows update-related services are set to automatic and started.

  Click Start, type services.msc in the start search box, right-click to services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.

  Check the above services below:
  (a) Background Intelligent Transfer Service
  (b) cryptographic service
  (c) Windows Update

  Step 2: Rename the Catroot2 folder

  To rename the Catroot2 folder, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, type cmd in the search box and right-click on cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each line:

  net stop cryptsvc
  Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
  net start cryptsvc
  output

  3 remove all tmp*.cat to the following folder:

  % systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}

  If any of the files that begin with tmp exist in this folder, do not remove any other files. Files .cat in this folder are necessary for installing hotfixes and service packs.

  Important: Do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot. The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder is not recreated if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot.

  Step 3: Reregister DLL files that are associated with Cryptographic Services

  To register .dll files that are associated with Cryptographic Services, follow these steps:

  3. reduce the Services (local) window.
  4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

  5. make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then enlarge the Services (local) window.
  6. in the Services (Local) pane, click Automatic updates, and then click Start.

  I try so to update my desktop computer Windows 7 so that I can be able to play a new game. I have over 60 updates. In the past, I was able to download updates as much as I wanted (it limited to 5 in case something has, it has). However, as of lately it seems like im having to fight the system just to download 1. I left my departure from system to download yesterday while I was at work. When I got home, it FINALLY installed & I work 10 hours in a row.

  It shouldn't take more than an hour to install an update, especially when they are as small as a few MB. I have the internet cable, so if theres any subject, side of its really on Microsoft. Also I looked into a similar position & a gentleman says to create a copy of the file msinfo32, I did, but don't know how to transfer correctly.

  At this point, I would manually reset the update of Windows on the folders on your computer and see if that allows you to install this update.

  Note: Perform these steps would be clear Windows Update history on the computer, but will not uninstall updated.

  1. press the Windows and R on your keyboard keys, then type Services.msc in the run box and press ENTER. This should open the windows of Services for you.

  2. then find the following three services in the list of Services and stop them (by clicking on it and click on stop) one by one:

  Windows Update

  (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service

  Cryptographic services

  3. open Windows Explorer and navigate to the following location:

  C:\Windows\

  Rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution in SoftwareDistribution.old

  4. go to the following location:

  C:\Windows\System32\

  Rename the Catroot2 in Catroot2.old folder

  (be careful here, do not rename the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder, you must rename the Catroot2 folder only)

  5. now go back to the Services window and start the services of three you had stopped earlier.
