Installing old drive in the new computer

I'm about to buy a computer refurbished one on Ebay. The computer comes with a hard disk of 40 GB and installed Windows XP Pro. The hard drive from my old computer which is dead is 250 GB and also has top XP Pro. I prefer to use my old drive from my old computer in that new / opportunity that I buy. I can do that or did I meet licensing issues. I have the XP install disk that I used to install it on my old computer.

Hello

Since this will be a different hardware on the new computer, you may experience problems of license.

In this case, you may need to reinstall the operating system on the new computer with the old hard drive.

I suggest that you back up all data on the old hard drive prior to installation. To do this, connect it as a secondary hard drive to back up data. Later, you can disconnect the new hard drive (40 GB), this (250 GB) primary and install Windows XP.

How to install or upgrade to Windows XP

Yes, don't worry if you migrate to the same operating system (Mac or Win).

    Catalogue conversion works well.

If you plan to migrate to another computer, you need to transfer your image files as your catalogs, which means that you can use the backup and restore method:

Organizing moving items catalogue | Elements 6 or later version

When you use this method, the restore process recognizes if the database version is the same. If it is newer, it invites you to convert the catalog after the restoration.

To transfer the software elements itself, you will need to:

-Use the Help menu > disconnect deactivate your license from the old computer

    -Reinstall the software

-use the same menu to sign with your product license key.

  • Possible to recover files on an old hard drive using the new computer?

Hi, my old computer CPU fried making UN usable. I just bought a custom P6150t of hp and I was wondering if there is some way I can install the old Hard drive in the computer I just bought. I really want to stay away from the team of geek or something that's going to cost me a lot of money. Any suggestions?

It is certainly possible, in fact, it should be fairly simple how experienced you are with computers. Hand, you have a few options I can think. Was of course since I am not aware of what kind of hard drive in your old computer, you will probably need to buy an additional cable\cord\connector to connect to the motherboard, and if it is an old IDE drive, you can buy an IDE to SATA as one of them.

This is all assuming you want to keep the hard drive installed on the PC. And although it may sound intimidating or difficult to do, it's really not! If you can put some screws with a screwdriver, you will be able to install the old drive if your new PC. Simply enter the model number of your PC to the HP drivers & support web page or click on the following link: upgrade and repair, (this is for the model number you provided) read the first couple pages & then proceed to PDF page #17. Read & review the instructions once in a relationship, print out the instructions if necessary, collect tools (flat head screwdriver & anti-static bracelet), then just follow instructions & take your time paying attention to the illustrations. It is frankly less work & easier than typing all of this out.

Either way, you can easily connect to your computer must use one of these: existingUSB-adapters IDE that allows you to directly access a device of ATA/ATAPI IDE interface. Everything is a matter of preference and what you are comfortable doing.  To find these items I already mentioned, just google 'em and either find a computer store nearby and investigate with them or order from a decent distributor in your country for the best prices. Overall, there are many more options that I've listed here, but they are all relatively will do the same thing; that is the type of player, you must convert a USB cord. Hope this helps! Good luck!! -tmt-

  • Portable hard drive from old notebook in the new computer.

    Hello

I have a portable dv-9830us recently bit it.  8600GS got flakey.  I bought a laptop DV7-7000 series and wanted to pass on the old hard drive in the 9830us and put it in the DV7-7000.  When I put the old hard drive in the new laptop, I got a BSOD that flashed by too fast for me to read.  He tried to repair the installation of win 7, which I allowed him to try, but it failed.  I'm thinking that it is a hardware/driver incompatibility related issue, since the new book obviously has different hardware.  Is there a way to get the existing windows installation on the old hard drive to detect hardware on start up again and install new drivers to allow it to boot on the new laptop?  I really don't want to reinstall 4 years worth of things on the new machine.  Both machines are running legitimate Win 7 Home edition.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hello:

It may be that you have already discovered, for the reason you guessed.

The material is too different for Windows to even try to start on your new laptop.

You are going to have to bite the bullet and transfer your files to your new PC.

  • Completely duplicating old drive to the new drive

I have a disk of 300 GB that only 30 GB is used. It contains Windows XP Pro with 2 users.  Diagnostic tells me that a complete failure is emanate. Manufacturing sent me a new drive with Windows XP Pro and drivers and that's all. After spending an hour less time trying to replicate my old system I couldn't to recognize programs that I have installed even though I had the start > programs to show them. Of course, the problem is the registry since I updated the portions of data for all users. Because my wife uses this computer for work, half a day, I finally put the old drive in the location empty and attached the cable main and power for him and he ran very well, very well. (I had also updated the BIOS to recognize an E: drive if necessary.  How can I duplicate my main drive to E; basically drive and then I'll do primary? I searched high and low and founld some really crazy. I tried to backup my drive c: to DVD too, but something has gone very wrong.  Can anyone help? A copy c: to e: would be fine, but notta.

Manufacturing sent me a new drive with Windows XP Pro and drivers and that's all.

It's actually quite surprising that you got a spare with XP installed on it.

What you are looking for is disk cloning software.  If you have a Western Digital hard drive, you can get it from WD (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list and is in no particular order):

    Acronis True Image Home 11
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

  • reloading the files of the external hard drive to the new computer laptop

I'm trying to reloaded files etc. from an external hard drive to my laptop. I took the files of my old office that was on is way out, so just in case I lost them all I copied them. I tried setting up my external hard drive and transfer just a couple of files just to see if it would work. I sent them to my desktop from my laptop and they also went to my documents, but once the hard drive is disconnected files will not open. I do not know what I'm dong wrong as I am not very computor spirit, so that the answers would be useful in silly English thank you. Sorry to be so long-winded.

    Hello @shedeval

I understand that you have copied your files on an external drive from your old computer.

You tried to copy the files to the new computer, but when you disconnect the external hard drive the files are no longer accessible.

I think that you have created or copied a shortcut to the new computer and not the actual files.  When you're logged out outside the new computer had more disk access to open files.

I would like to redo the copy and when you finished externally, log out and then try again.

    Good luck!

  • I just installed a new drive faster. How can I get windows live mail from the old drive to the new drive

Where are the files stored WindowsLiveMail?  Under what article directory.  I have "tons" of e-mail messages stored on the old disk and need to move them to the new drive faster.  How can I do?

The location of the store folder, which contains all the messages, calendars and the account settings, is configurable by the user. The default location is
    C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

If the installer of WLMail is a record storage in the default location, it normally acknowledge and take into use if. The only user that would be required should reinstate saved passwords. If this is to succeed, the old and new installations of WLMail normally must be exactly the same construction. The storage location must be in place in the default location on the new drive before installing WLMail. Also, the current user must be the owner of the record store to its new location.

If the old drive is installed on the same computer as the new facility in WLMail, you can point the Import Wizard to import messages to the old folder of the store. They will find under storage folders into imported folders.

My motherboard went bad on my old computer, but the hard drive was OK. I bought a new computer and plugged my old hard drive to it via a usb adapter. I would like to import or copy my favorites from the old hard drive to my new, but I can't find where they are. I was unable to determine the search for articles on the web.
