Installing WXP - HARD drive format is not possible

Hello

For some time my laptop really worked slowly on the net. Before that, it was working very well so I thought I have delete all and install the new windows xp (nl).

So I start and get her choose between

NTFS (quick) format
NTFS format
Do not format

I chose the Middle, but it always stops on 14%?
I can format it quickly, but then my problem is not solved.

What can I do, what do you guys think is the problem?

Thank you people!

Hi Steven

It will be interesting to know what model of laptop you have and what operating system you want to install.

In my opinion, you must use the restore for the installation CD. On this way the disk HARD integer will be formatted correctly and in 20 minutes, the laptop will be ready to use. You can use CDs of recovery for the creation of two partitions if you want.

Did you include the SATA driver?
If this is not the case, this could be the reason why the HARD drive is not detected.

However, you can disable the AHCI in the BIOS and it could spend in compatible mode. In this case the SATA driver is not important

    Hi Merlin,

    Thank you for the information.

Have you tried to run a check disk from the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)? If this isn't the case, you can try to do a hard drive from the BIOS test & see if the problem still occurs.

If you are not comfortable with the BIOS, you you contact the manufacturer of your computer for help.

Hope the helps of information. Please post back and we do know.

  • Installed the new hard drive - now "OS not found"

Hi, I recently installed a new hard drive in my laptop because the old hard drive was dead. So, I installed the hard drive and I am now installing the operating system using the Dell disk I received with my laptop. This is for the 32-bit window Vista and it says it should be used for re-installation of Vista. It was in a sealed envelope - so it has never been used.

When I start the laptop and insert the disc, it just says: operating system not found.  I made sure the cd drive is the first in the startup list.  I also put the drive into another laptop and copied the files on a USB key.  Then tried to install it on the USB. No luck.

I have run the system diagnostics, and it says that my hard drive and cd drive are recognized and functioning.

The dell cd drive is not bootable?  Thanks in advance for your help.

I was able to fix this on my own. It turns out that one of the files has been altered I discovered once I was finally able to get it to boot from a USB device.  I found the one window Vista installation disk other that I have with another computer laptop and used that. Worked well.

  • Satellite A300-1J1 - how to install 2nd HARD drive?

    Hello

I bought a Satellite A300 and I see in the workbook loads it is possible to add a 2nd hard drive. So I bought one and when I opened the box of hard drive, I have not found a connector to connect to my hard drive. I think I have to install a SATA connector, but I have not found a way to proceed.

    Thank you

PS: Excuse me if you find mistakes, I don't speak very well

    Hey,.

If there is no second SATA connector on the motherboard it s not possible to install 2nd HARD drive because you can t add such a motherboard connector.

As far as I remember there are other threads on A300 and 2nd drive HARD here in the forum and the point is that all A300 using the same case for laptop, but the mothers are different. So you can have a 2nd HARD drive Bay but not connector.

After Vista update cannot find the external hard drive, AutoPlay does not work, and new unusable disk appears under my computer. Also I can't 'manage' my computer because I do not have "permissions". I tried a fix he 45071 and it did nothing.

Applications, (Norton and McAfee) (including free evaluation versions are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.) If NIS has been installed for 3 years, you have NIS update at least once and maybe twice (e.g., NIS 2009 > NIS 2010 > NIS 2011).

[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) viaControl Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    6. do a clean install of NIS 2011 (using your product ID, if need be) & reboot. CF. http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

  • Installed new HARD drive with the new installation of XP, old HDD ShowAs saw as the active partition, how to change this?

I installed a new HARD drive with a new installation of Windows XP Edition family. I want to keep the old HDD and reformat the drive, but I can't because the second HDD is listed as active in the management of the computer. Why? It's not the drive that contains the operating system (Windows XP) that is initialized from.  I put the BIOS such that the new HARD drive is the boot drive. The old HDD has Windows XP on it, but isn't the startup disk. I just don't understand.
If only the new HARD drive is installed, the computer management doesn't show that it or any other of its partitions are the active partition (C drive is listed as the system partition, of course).

How can I get an active partition and no active partition when the new HARD drive is installed on a HARD drive that is not the boot drive, when I have two hard drives installed?

In case it is necessary, the new HARD drive is a SATA and the old HARD drive is IDE with the cavaliers as a slave.

The system partition is the Active partition. The system volume contains the system files needed to start Windows, Windows XP, these system files are:

    NTLDR
    Boot.ini
    NTDETECT.COM
Ntbootdd.sys (present/used only with older SCSI controllers)

Windows files are not necessarily on the system volume, they can reside on another volume, when on a different volume this volume holding Windows files is called the boot volume.

When you install Windows on a computer, playing a mixture of IDE and SATA setup discs tends to favor with IDE drives on SATA drives and tends to use the IDE drive to house the system partition, (even if Windows is installed on a different drive).

Running the command SYSTEM SET at a command prompt may shed some light on the problem...

  • Install a hard drive

    Original title: Pedro

Y at - it a problem if I (temporarily) install a hard drive in my PC of capacity equal to one he has (both 1 T). I know that a hard drive with a lower capacity would cause the original HD does not work when the reinstalled (500 MB in an original HD 1 TB).

    Thank you for your advice.

    Pedro

You can give more details about what you are considering, but--

"I don't know a hard drive with a lower capacity would cause the original HD does not work when the reinstalled"

You can install the variable capacity HARD drives and mix the SSD HARD drive. Mixture of capacity should not

normally cause any HARD disk to stop working.

-What you need to be careful when you install a HARD drive in the case, is not Exchange not the cable on the

Windows HARD disk is installed on a different SATA port (what good practice dictates as Port 0)

If you do not have what you need to rearrange the order in the BIOS Boot section (or change again the cables),

or the machine can "read" the HARD drive badly and not start Windows (depending on the configuration of the BIOS).

    Examples:

-J' have a machine with an e-SATA docking station I can pop any HARD drive in.

I have backup of HDD of 80 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB.

(This machine has a SSD and 2 TB HDD installed)

I also use that HDD dock for a 'double' boot Win10 from an another SSD

(Win7 is installed in the case, then I have to change the BIOS boot option when I change from one OS to the other).

-My second machine (with an SSD, 500 GB and 1 TB HDD installed) doesn't have the luxury of a

e SATA dock, so with this one, I use a spare door HARD disc that came with the case and the spare SATA and

cable to connect temporarily HDD with the stop sign and the HARD disk on the table

(power off and disconnected so that the implementation).

This is not a practical method for the weak and not heated, but works well with my old HARD drives.

For most people, using a HARD "external" drive that comes in its own case with a cable USB or e-SATA

    connection is the best option.

After a Windows Update I received a notice that my version of windows was not authentic, which is false because I had windows on my laptop because I got it 4 years ago. Recently, I had to have the changed HARD drive as it corrupts. Installed new HARD drive and partition it a space in which the old files to hard drives. Seemed to turn very well when HARD drives were exchanged and windows installed on the new drive until windows update. My Microsoft certificate key is passed out to illegible but I don't have the product key for the OEM version. Any help would be great, thanks.

If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, you can enable using the code from the sticker on the computer.  If you can not read the sticker more, you will need to contact the computer company he built.

If you purchased Windows from the store, you can enable using the code of the case/box/CD.  If you can't read it, you must contact the retailer who sells to you.
