  So my L655-S5150 stopped all of a sudden pick up sound. I tried to update, but it says I already have the most recent update. I went to control panel > sound > recording tab to test the microphone and it doesn't respond when I hit the back of my laptop.

  to check your setting first:

  Right click the speaker icon in the notification area and choose: Adjust Audio properties.

  Or: Control Panel, sounds and Audio devices.

  I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with windows XP SP3 and the driver sigmatel R171789, and even if I tried the solution suggested by http://dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=insp_audio&message.id=29912 I am still unable to hear the microphone through the speakers.

  I read in another post that might be due to the version of the drivers that I use, but then I would like to know if it is possible to get an older version.

  I hope someone has some tips that can help me. I try to use either Gamevoice/VoiceBuddy for adding voice command to my games.

  According to the information provided in your post, I advise you to follow this document on the use of the Recovery Manager to restore the software and drivers (Windows 7). This should restore the drivers software and hardware of origin provided with your computer. Once the software installation is complete, please follow this document on using the HP Support Assistant to update your system drivers.

  I have an Inspiron 1720 under Vista Home Premium and I want to upgrade to Windows 7.   The Microsoft Compatibility Test indicated that there would be no problem.   But when I tried to install Windows 7 Home Premium, he answered by saying that I had to update the version of the BIOS (A03).   After having checked the Dell Support the version the most recent is A09.   When I try to download it all I get is a download manager that tells me that there are no files to download.   In my view, the file I need is 1702_A09.
