Thanks to join Microsoft Community where you will find all necessary information about the Windows operating systems.

You cannot use the Wireless Desktop 800 keyboard and mouse.

  • Microsoft Windows XP and Norton Internet Security

    Hello
I have a problem with my laptop Toshiba Portege R200. After the new installation of MS Windows XP Professional with SP2 and all recommended Toshiba drivers and utilities and the installation of Norton Internet Security 2005 AntiSpyware Edition laptop starts repeatedly with delay. The delay is manifested by jump for 1 to 2 minutes between when the icons are loaded on the desktop and programs (their icons) are loaded into the system tray. In this break, the system tray has no answer to all actions and the CPU is fully charged (the fan continues its maximum). In addition, sometimes the computer doesn´t wake up from sleep or hibernation mode.
I saw this problem with Symantec Corp., and they confirmed my suspicions that some Toshiba drivers or utilities collide with Norton Internet Security system services, but they don t know which of course.

I want to ask you if you know something about this problem because there are a lot of utilities and drivers Toshiba and it is impossible to just try on which we put problem and it is also impossible to use Norton Internet Security on my laptop.

I would like to add that all used Toshiba drivers and utilities are up-to-date as well as MS Windows XP and Norton Internet Security. The computer has certainly no viruses as well.

    Thank you.

    Hello Martin

I had the same problem with the Satellite P20 (1 GB of RAM). I installed the Sophos anti-virus application and after that, I noticed the same situation. The delay is certainly due after installing antivir software. I deleted and everything works fine now.

It makes sense that the software companies are trying to complain of producers for laptop but my experience is that Toshiba has designed tools and utilities have no influence on the applications of antivir. I recommend you to test different applications with antivir. I tested it with Trend Micro PC - cillin Internet security and AntiVir guard. Two of them works well, and I noticed that the problem has disappeared.

  • network printing from the desktop in Windows Vista and Windows 7 laptop

    Original title: network printing

I have Vista Home running on a desktop computer with a printer. I have a laptop with W 7 (64-bit) and to print on a desktop printer.  I have configured the settings to allow the sharing of files on the vista machine and now in this network sharing Center it is written after the sharing printers and public folder sharing (password required).  Which passwords they are referring to and how do I enter them?

I decided to bite the bullet and updated desktop for Windows 7.  Now, portable and office are on the same operating system.  Then I used the home network.  The network was a snap to set up and works perfectly.

  • can I use desktop using Windows 7 and Windows XP on the same network? I need allow sharing of printing

I am trying to install 2 new computers running Windows 7 on one network of 12 others who are running Windows XP, do all need to have the same operating system?  I have a printer connected to the computer and cannot access it from my other computers.

You can have virtually any network operating system support on computers on a particular network.  The only thing you can't do with Windows 7 computers in a mixed-OS situation is using the new "Homegroup" feature, because it's for Windows 7 only.

  • I have a HP Pavilion Elite i7 Desktop w Windows 7 and I want to add a 3 TB hard. I can?

I have an i7 HP Pavilion Elite Desktop w 2 year, Windows 7 and I want to add a 3 TB hard.  Can I add a 3 TB hard (probably known as the Segate Barracuda XT 3 TB HD) as a secondary disk without changes.  If this is not the case, what should I do?

Short answer is not really. You need UEFI BIOS to do, and your system did not come with it. You could add it, but only 2.2 to be visible as a single drive. Using utilities... etc. of the manufacturer of the HARD drive, you could partition to see the rest, but as hard disks get bigger, the BIOS must change to adapt. They changed, but still yours is the older BIOS inherited, and there is no way to change it to a UEFI version.

    Sorry

  • Is there a way Active Desktop for Windows 7 and Vista?

I miss active desktop. I use it to display Web pages, I used it to SWF (flash) animations. Is there a solution that allows me to place a flash as my desktop background object?

I had this really cool clock that I want to reuse my wallpaper.
Also, is there a way to make Vista/7 GIF animations display properly? I sometimes use an animated GIF as wallpaper too.

    Hello

There is no active desktop in Windows 7.

The closest thing that resembles the Active Desktop feature is Desktop Gadgets:

  • problem Windows xp and avg internet security

Program AVG Internet Security - AVG PC Tune Up - changed/corrupted my Windows Defragmenter program.  Before downloading the free version of this Tune Up program that I had always used the drive Windows Cleanup and Defragmenter programs. When I now try to defragment my files I get the following message when I try to analyse the "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (c). Please run Chkdsk/f.

AVG 2 offer help options a) contact Microsoft) b computer restoration to date before you download Tune Up.

Do not use my computer for anything else on internet purchases, store my pictures, my banking and the strange E-mail but does not want to resume a year.  All of the suggestions. I have disinstalled program AVG PC Tune Up months trying to make my computer run faster.  AVG informed me that my security bought 18 month program there is need the upgrade and that is why its doing all my programs so slow.  I don't have any computer talk or knows anything much about them (code of machine 20 years ago!)

    (a) contacting Microsoft won't help you
    (b) restore your computer won't help you

The problem is your HARD drive has been marked "sale" and you cannot defragment a dirty volume.

Your HARD drive may have been marked dirty of a power interruption, using the power button, pulling the plug, abnormal termination, aborted reboot, etc..

You can query the dirty bit on a volume from the command prompt window.  Here's how:

Click Start, run and enter in the box:

    cmd

Click OK to open the command prompt window.

For example, to query the bit of impurity on drive C, type this command:

    fsutil dirty query C:

    The sample output:
    Volume c is dirty
    Volume C: is dirty

Type "exit" to close the command prompt window.

No amount of order entry, no amount of editing the registry deletes the on a volume's dirty bit (sorry that Microsoft committed 'experts' Support Engineer)

Only a chkdsk with error correction (chkdsk/r) can clear the dirty bit, and it might not work the first time.

To run chkdsk/r, click on start, run and enter in the box:

    Chkdsk /r

Click OK and the answer you want volume checked on next reboot (restart of course).

This disk check can last a long time (perhaps several to several hours) depending on the size of the volume, the amount of data on the volume and what the disk check finds to do.  You may need to run more than once.

When chkdsk runs automatically restart either because XP thinks he needs to (perhaps your NTFS volume has been marked as dirty) or you have chosen to do it yourself, the results appear in the viewing Application event log.  You should look there for the chkdsk log and no problems after running chkdsk.

To view the logs in Event Viewer, click Start, settings, Control Panel, administrative tools, event viewer.

A shortcut to the event viewer is to click on start, run and enter in the box:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc

Click OK to launch the event viewer.

Search the Application log for an event originally by Winlogon, something like:

    Event type: Information
    Event source: Winlogon
    Event category: no
    Event ID: 1001
    Description:

    Checking file system on C:

The type of the file system is NTFS.
A disk check has been programmed.
Windows will now check the disk.
    39070048 KB total disk space.
    25151976 KB in 78653 files.
    48256 KB in 10264 index.
    0 KB in bad sectors.
237080 KB in use by the system.
65536 KB occupied by the log file.
    13632736 KB available on disk.
Windows has finished checking your disk.

If you see errors - same errors that are corrected, run chkdsk /r again until you see no error.  You should have no errors.

Check again the dirty bit.  Rinse and repeat if you wish.

  • cleaning windows rigstry and temporary internet files

Hi guys * today im bought a new Professional edition ccleaner and it offer to a registry clean then advise you that while I have a bad history with Advanced systemcare?

Bad purchase.  Do NOT use Ccleaner.  It is likely to cause more problems.  In fact, don't NOT virtue but dire circumstances even mess with the registry.  It's simply too risky.

The software that promises to make your computer run better is more often than not more a threat than a help.  Leave your computer alone.  Windows will look after itself fairly well.  It is highly unlikely that all of your efforts to make it work better will never produce a meaningful result.

Windows 7 has a lot of what he needs to take care of your system.  You need a product high quality Antivirus and nothing else at all claiming to make your computer safe or more safe.

There is no doubt that the best and the most effective protection is your good judgment.  Well, think about where you go on the web and think thrice before you ever click on a download button.  Almost anything free will carry with it a lot of unwanted software are more likely to be malicious.

There is AN anti-malware product that I do not recommend.  It's ADWcleaner https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/

It's a free scanner that you download and run occasionally.  It is not an all-the-moment program execution.

Choose your antivirus product with care and know about them:

Now, this is a controversial subject, but your choice of AV software may be something you want to take a 2nd look.  I suggest you visit this website to get an idea of what AV software made the best work, depending on what type of user you are: http://www.av-comparatives.org/ is a non-profit that has been around for a long time and I hope that their results.

When you interpret these results, remember the difference between a product that detects 95% and the other 99% of infections, it is actually 5 times more likely to allow an infection.

I care about 140 Windows PCs and I have more than 13 years.  Until last September, the only AV software that I would allow my clients to use was Norton Antivirus.  Note that this is not the same as any other product, Norton 360 or Internet Security.

Last September, Symantec (Norton owner) decided to no longer sell such a product.  After much research, I decided on Bitdefender Antivirus 2015 +.  I installed it on more than half of these PC so far and has never been a problem.  In fact, I think it's a better product than even Norton.  One of the things I love the most about it, is the silence and discretion.  It is also cheap.

My customers know that if they install any product of 'Internet Security', I won't work on their computers until it is deleted.  Very well, I learned the hard way that the other components of these products (other than the AV itself) IS caused more problems than any profit that they bring and work primarily by stopping the Windows component that does a very good job of this particular task still.  My problem is that when I started to work on a computer with an IS on it, I could spend hours trying to diagnose the problem, only to find out that by taking the product of the IS, the problems have become much clearer and easier to solve.  I think that the product of the IS actually hides the problem.

As I said.  It is a controversial topic and you will find many different very strong opinions.  I know that mine is based on a fairly large sample over a long period, and are consumers of consumer type Windows.

Another thing you need to know: you can delete not entirely of most any AV software simply by using the standard uninstallation tool Windows 7.  Most of the majors also publishes a "removal tool" that gets the rest.  If you do not completely remove it, it will cause very hard to understand and diagnose problems.

  • Color background of the old Windows Notepad and old Internet Explorer

Two questions really. (1) what was the color of old Windows Notepad? I remember originally he was not white, but a dull kind of ish. The question is what is the value of that color in hexadecimal html (#)? (2) what was the default color of the old Internet Explore (for example Internet Explorer 4 for example), which he became white? In the old days, if you use IE4 to view a Web site that did not "bgcolor" in the body tag, you were presented with a background of dull ish, default to the browser. The question is once again, what is the value of that color dull ish in hexadecimal html (#)? Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Windows Defender and Norton Internet Security? What are the differences, and that I would be better off with NIS.___NIS it has automatic connections which is great.___Thank you. Dennis__

    None

Windows Defender is an antispyware software.  In itself, it does not all the protection your computer needs.

Norton Internet Security is a suite of programs, including antivirus, antispyware, firewall, antispam and others.

Windows 7 consumer security software providers shows those and other opportunities.

I'm not a fan of security suites.  On my computer, I use the free program of Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus and antispyware protection integrated in Windows 7 is Windows Firewall .
