Intel 82579LM NIC on the Portege R830 does "Promiscuous" mode?

Hello

I have a laptop (Portege R830) work, who does not want to sniff the packets. I connected to a hub Netgear DS104-, as well as an older laptop and then uplink to ADSL.

Run a continuous ping the default gateway and Wireshark on the devices and the other computer can see the pings from Toshiba, but not vice versa.

The Toshiba runs under an administrator account has disabled Windows Firewall and my disabled Symantec endpoint encryption. I don't have any other AV to my knowledge.

Does anyone have ideas of services I should turn on or off, or the knowledge of the characteristics of this NETWORK adapter?

According to the Intel site "Yes, all cards Intel® PRO/100 Intel® PRO/1000, Intel® Gigabit, Intel® PRO/10 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit from Intel® currently on the market support"Promiscuous"mode." But Intel® 82579 Gigabit Ethernet Controller is not in the list that follows http://www.Intel.com/support/Network/SB/CS-004185.htm?wapkw=%28promiscuous%29

Thanks for your time.

Usually the firewall or security software Internet blocks pings so maybe try to uninstall Symantec completely. Disable it just cannot turn off everything.

Another thing to try, is to use a static IP instead of DHCP. Disable IPv6 or install a new LAN driver from the Intel Web site may also help.

    (wireless is fine)

    Hello

Error code 10 is generated when the Device Manager cannot start the hardware device and usually its caused by obsolete or corrupt drivers.
So I think that the driver installation should help solve this problem.

    I would recommend this as:

-Go to Device Manager and uninstall the driver LAN
-Restart the laptop but don t install the driver
-Install the CCleaner and clean the registry
    -Restart the computer once more
-Then go to Device Manager, select the network card (Ethernet controller) and install the downloaded driver

As an option, I would recommend test page of Intel LAN driver.

  • Disk error when you exit the Portege M100 in standby mode

    Hello all :)

Have a Portege M100 for general use with WXP Pro installed.
Recently decided to upgrade to a DVD - rom DVD burner, then bought a Sony DW-Q250A burner.
Installed and it worked, but I continue having problems when the computer wakes from sleep, I get the message "ERROR #1 IDE", while the system reboots without additional probs in windows

The problem is, once this happens, the DVD player then disappears from the window 'my computer' and is not visible in the "Device Manager", until I remove the disc, back up and then analyze for pop. "p in Device Manager devices, it reappears as nothing has happened."
I thought it might have been a conflict with the IDE bus (ie the two - disk HARD & DVD - disks configured as master) so I put a rider on the HARD disk to make the slave drive (which looks like to mean a change of firmware on the DVD drive for this) but it just created more probs... Then I got a message "ERROR of IDE #0" extra when I did and the machine would not boot from the HARD drive.

Any thoughts would be welcome? :|

    Mark

    Hi mate,

"first of all I would like to explain the IDE #0 error: it s quite understandable given that the HARD drive is the * FIRST * player of all and must stand the * FIRST" by car, which means that you jumper shouldn´t to a slave drive. It must be a master, otherwise, as in your case, the boot of won´t machine.
    in
So you have 2 IDE channels (primary and secondary IDE channel), and each channel has a master and a slave. Apart from the HARD drive that is located on the main channel, your DVD player is naturally on the secondary channel configured as the master drive.
Here´s a bit 'image': D to explain it:

    -> Primary channel-> Master = HARD drive
    -> Slave = nothing

    -> Secondary channel-> Master = DVD
    -> Slave = nothing

    Regarding your problem:

I have no definitive solution for you, but I can give you some advice. First download the latest BIOS for your machine and upgrade to the latest version. Then download the latest drivers and install them. After that, look for an update of the firmware of your player of DVD and last but no less check the database of microsoft for known issues as any of the similar issues are known for me with drives toshiba toshiba machines.

    Would be worthy to try

    :)

    See you soon

  • Portege R830-10v / i7 / change internal SSD 225 GB

I need to change my flash drive SSD internal 225 GB for a 512 GB SSD!

What should I do to the hardware and software level?
    Can I take any SSD?

    Thanks for the help?

    Best regards, Florence

The HDD or SSD drive update requires no special modifications in the software or hardware.
You need a compatible player SATA SSD 2.5.

Here is a nice and very useful document how to upgrade / replace the Portege R830 & Satellite R830 series SSD or HARD disk drive.

    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/CRU18037E0000R01.htm

Of course, after this upgrade, you'll need to install the system new the best choice would be its use or recovery disk and recover the laptop to factory settings.

  • Portege R830 - Toshiba DVD Player missing

    Drive DVD - Portege R830 (03N00701)

I can find no trace of the software Toshiba Video Player or Toshiba DVD player. My dealer told me simply that "they probably don't put more ' and told me to use Windows Media Player. Still the .pdf manual has clear instructions to use it.

I'm supposed to have a Toshiba DVD player on board and if not, what can I download online?

    G Hey Lauri

According to the specification for the Portege R830 series you should have The Toshiba DVD Player software.
However you can download it here,

I have not used because I used to use a freeware prog. called VLC because it plays one of these video file formats that I tried on it.

I have Satellite R830-143 and relatively speaking, it has the same specifications as the Portege and had the DVD player when I bought it a month ago.

Seems dealers will tell you anything without even bothering to check.

    Best wishes

  • VMs and vswitches shared using the "Promiscuous" mode

We are in the middle of setting up our new VM environment and you want to include Symantec Web Gateway virtual appliance. Must the vswitches (vNIC) use promiscuous mode. The problem is that all of my physical network cards are distributed between 4 virtual switches. No other virtual machines require promiscuous mode. When you set this mode on a vswitch, how will this affect the other virtual machines using the same switch? "Promiscuous" mode can be set on the switch and only ebabled to the virtual machine?

I'm under esxi 5 and 8 network adapters in the servers of my host. There are 4 configured vswitches, one for management, data traffic, one for vmotion traffic and one for our DMZ.

    Thanks in advance

You can create a separate virtual machine for this virtual machine port group and set security for the virtual machine portgroup activating the mode of promiscous-only activate the promiscous for virtual machines will be connected to the VM Port Group

  • Need to check the update of the BIOS Portege R830 without Intel TXT

    Hello Forum,

I have exactly the same problem as described here 2 years ago:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=65519

I need to update my BIOS, but I can't because the update of the BIOS told me that the Intel TXT is enabled.
Unfortunately I can not disable it in my bios. Its just not selectable. The 'cursor' jumping just above him.
I can only 'hide' which does not help.
I have the same thing for the VT - x and VT - d setting in the BIOS. Is not selectable or editable as well.

    TPM is not active if...
I installed after infineon and he tells me I need to enable the TPM in the bios to use. :-(

I have a very old Bios Version 3.1 and I read in the changelog that there are a lot of TPM in v 3.4 and 3.5 related changes...

    In any case...
A P007Dv360A_EC77V140.zip file has been transferred to 2shared.com who fixed it at the time, a user named Paolo30.
Unfortunately, that this file has been deleted on 2shared.com

can someone please provide this file (or an update of the bios later) which resolves this issue?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Portege R830 had dead blue when the screen connects to wifi or shared internet

It seemed began as soon as the automatic update from Microsoft on Qualcomm, Atheros, every time when connect to any WIFi, share internet, my portege R830 shows blue screen and the following error message:
    unhandled system_thread_exception (athwb.sys)

I found that I am not the isolated on the Web site. I tried to remove and stop updates. However, once I connect to the internet, the blue screen comes back.

Is the problem because of the network adapter? The model is Qualcomm Atheros AR9002WB
Can solve the problem if I download the new driver of Qualcomm-Atheros site? Or if I replace a new adapter?

The athwb.sys file belongs to the Atheros wireless driver. Usually placed in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\athwb.sys
It seems that in your case this file causing the BSOD.

I found a very interesting detail about this problem and why it seems.

  • Re: Portege R830 eSATA - failure to mount the external hard drive

{color: #000000} I have a new Portege R830 with combined eSATA / USB port. It will recognize an external drive in as drive 0 Device Manager but does not mount the drive under Win 7 x 64. The road rises and works absolutely normally under USB2 via the combined port or one of the other ports on the PC. The player works absolutely normally under eSATA on another desktop PC Win 7 x 64

Search Internet suggests that this is a widespread problem with Win 7, but given the above commentary to normal operation on my desk, strongly indicates that it is "simply" a laptop Toshiba driver problem Win 7 x 64.

A workaround solution that someone had reported was to boot the PC with the drive connected. This will lead to the PC mount the drive, but I found to be unreliable - tends to freeze the unpredictable machine, but when logged in it showed he was transferring data at a reasonable speed.

The search for these forums, no solution has not identified... Toshiba - think you should answer it please!

Afetr all is a 'feature' significant on the Portege and rather defeats the point if it is impossible to use...

    Kind regards

    Hi mate

First of all, it is a forum for a user to this don t address issues from Toshiba here in the forum, but other users of this community.

Back to your question; Does this mean that the HARD drive connected to the eSATA port cannot be recognized as device eSATA but USB device?

Please check if you are using the latest version of the BIOS. On the European driver Toshiba page, you can find the BIOS version transferred to 29/07/11.
In addition, I recommend to check the BIOS settings; check if eSATA is activated it.

  • Portege R830 - Windows does not start after I have install Comodo Firewall

    Good afternoon

I bought today a Portege R830, and after the Windows configuration, the first program that I installed was the popular free Comodo Firewall. After that I restarted, Windows 7 unbootable. It would be stuck on the user login screen and I know it's a problem with the firewall because if I do a system restore to the restore point created by Setup of firewall, windows restarts.

So I ask if there is any inconsistency between the firewall and software on the Toshiba. A that someone already had this problem? I tried to solve this problem throughout the day with no results. I even re-installed Windows 7 using the Toshiba Recovery and the problem persists. I really like the Comodo and I want this firewall on my laptop, but Windows does not just start!

    Any help would be apreciated.

    Hi jillefsky,.

Have you disabled the Windows Firewall before you start with the installation of Comodo Firewall? As far as I know, Portege R830 is delivered with preinstalled McAfee security software and you must remove this program before you install other security tools.

Generally this has nothing to do with Toshiba and it s advisable to contact Comodo directly. They may know about this so they can give you a proper answer.

But I put t understand why this program is so important to you. Windows already has an internal firewall so that these programs are not necessary in my opinion. Just install a good antivirus like AntiVir and enable the automatic updates of Windows. All that s!
