INTER-COUNTRY DOWNLOADS

What comments you can do the following: I have often noticed that when I am logging or by downloading Web sites in other countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, the India... it seems to be much more long wait compared to websites here in the States.  DISTANCES between countries are slowing down the process?  Assuming that any other is the same, the furthest from the country where the site was created, at least fast download time, for example.  Please comment.

Thank you very much.

There are several factors that affect the speed of downloading a file from a web server on your computer. When I say file, anything you download is essentially a file, such as the HTML file that determines the layout of a web page, each element of a web page, that is, images, scripts, etc., are also files. Even when you download a program, the exe or zip package is a file.

One of the factors is the server itself; how powerful is he and what weight it's load. In other words, is the new server with a multi-core processor and plenty of RAM or more, possibly with a single-core processor and less RAM. In addition, what is the site being hosted and level of activity is the site (1 or 2 visitors at a time), or thousands; There are also the server hosts more than one web site, or thousands! In addition, what is the Internet Server connection speed.

The distance between the server and your computer makes a difference, but not because of the actual distance "mileage", but for the number of hops of your data must be between you and the server. At every jump, stops data type as it is routed to its next destination. If you had a direct link between the server and your computer (a single cat5 cable very long), which would essentially be a jump. Each time data through another Internet Server or router is another jump.

If you want to make a quick and simple test to determine the number of edges between you and a server, you can do that with the traceroute (tracert) command in Windows 7. The Indiana University run tracert details page below.

In Windows, what is traceroute and how to use it?

There are many other factors, for example, what kind of line is between each jump, i.e., cable or optical, much faster than the traditional cable optics. But I think that the two I described above have a huge impact on how fast your computer is receiving a file from a server.

Kind regards
