Internal HD not mounting

Hi experts,

I am very new to Yosemite OS X. I tried to erase all data from the Mac. I went to disk utility at startup with the COMMAND + r Orient the HD and then erased.

When the computer reboots, an empty folder flashes. Help, please.

Thank you

Go back to the Volume of recovery and reinstall the OS. Then try to restart normally.

  • Internal HD not mounted and not disk utility

    Hi Mac community.

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro with 4 internal drive bays.  For now, they are all busy with special various backup and storage drives.  One of my backup / storage drives (not my boot drive) does not appear as "mounted" on the desktop.  It does not also appear in the disk utility.  System information shows 'Unknown' for 3 Bay where the reader resides.  The missing disk is used to save another internal drive that stores the image files almost exclusively and is not a boot disk.  The missing disk is about 3-4 years of age and is called only in service for a few minutes a day when Super Duper asks it to do his homework, who will quickly backup.  In addition, Super Duper is not able to find the drive to back up either.

I think one way to obtain the missing disk health trouble would close, exchanging one of the other disks in its place, restart and see if the drive and the system information utility recognize another drive in the Bay (#3) in question.  This way I know if I have a dead drive or if there is some other hardware problem associated with this Bay.

This sounds like a good approach?  Are there other means within the system to check the status of the missing disk, (not start)?

    Thank you!  Mike

Yes, it's an excellent course of action.

  • sparsebundle disk image not mounting

I've recently upgraded to Mac OS Sierra and now I can not mount an image of disk sparsebundle.

I enter the password, and then nothing happens.

I tried the same image on a Mac running Leopard and it opens fine.

I tried a few other sparsebundle some and other encrypted disk images not. Some are open very well, but others do not.

So, it doesn't seem to be a problem of sparsebundle encrypted disk image.

    Any suggestions?

After investigation a little more the problem is Sophos AV

Turn it off and the disk mount fine images.

    I hope this helps.

I had these problems with my recent Mac.

    1. it freezes for a few seconds. Then begins to work properly. And then freezes. The beachball keeps spinning and I can't access any of the applications.

I tried restarting. But came up with another question. The gray screen of the charges and file aid continues to Flash.

I tried from the recovery mode, but I get the Internet (OS X Lion). I'm under El Capitan. In disk utility, I check and repair the drive. Stop and try again. Now, there are two current icons and off - no logo entry sign and apple. If I'm lucky then after 40-50 seconds, Mac starts up.

Now, I tried to make the EtreCheck, and he gave me more results for disc

    That's what worry?

What can I do to fix these problems?

Disk0 unit 1 is not the problem. This is the EFI partition, which is never mounted, because it is used only by the bootstrapper, long before that the file system is initialized.

Your problem is 70 errors in disk0 tranche 2, the volume Macintosh HD. This hard drive (the entire disc) was his. Dead. in ruins. You need a new drive.

  • WD My Passport drive external drive will not mount once my Macbook Pro is already on

    Hello

I actually had this problem for a year or two, but I'm finally getting bugged to this topic enough to see if it can be 'fixed '.

I have a 2 to WD My Passport portable HD connected to my macbook pro via an external (wall outlet) powered TRUST 5 x USB3 Hub.  If everything is connected, when I start the macbook pro there is no problem and the WD My Passport is mounted in the finder.  But if I remove manually the hard drive and then try to mount it again while the macbook pro is running it doesn't mount not.  It used to, but he won't now.

In the past the WD My passport would need to unplug and perhaps the USB3 hub would need power cable disconnect from him and the USB hubs out the macbook pro.  So when I joined this new and plugged the hard drive WD in the hub, it would rise very well.  But now it's just point blank refuses to ride until I restart the macbook pro.  Once I restart it it climbs perfectly and stays up forever--until it is dismantled manually - and then I have to restart the macbook pro again so he could mount once more.

I tried all combinations of pull cables and adapters to power but nothing has worked.  After dismantling the WD hd and plug back on the USB3 light led on the hub hub lights up and the hard drive turns manually, but, as I say, it is not mount and it is not visible in disk utility.

Any ideas please?  It's a bit annoying to have to keep restarting the mac whenever I had to unplug the hard drive WD.

"As issued" WD Passport appear to cause a number of reports of trouble around here. You have already taken the first "not best" - using a powered hub. Just make sure that the hub is really power (lights on, for example). It could be that the external drive is in its death throws.

This happen if the WD is the only thing on the powered hub?

The Mac USB ports work with other devices?

Here's what my experience with these things has believing me. WD made great bare discs, but I can't be so kind to their pens. Three questions:

    (1) I think that they should use chipsets which are not very easy to Mac.

    (2) most driving the ship formatted for Windows

    (3) even those shipped as "Mac editions have some odd which makes it difficult to access file formatting.

If you do not have to share the drive with a Windows computer, you can reformat the drive and that often fixes "fail to mount/recognize" question. Disk utility is your tool of choice here because it is already installed on your Mac. Completely erase the WD drive by selecting the tab 'Clear' in the bar tabs to disk utility. Define the plan of Partition to GUID Partition map and journaled for Mac extended format. Press the button 'clear '. The reader will now will be rid of eccentric WD partitioning and formatting schemes and be a good Mac hard drive.

If you share the road with a Windows computer, consider getting a better workout. After having fought external drives 'brand' on my computers and others that I maintain, I now use only boxes of other computer world with naked WD drives inside. Since this change, I have zero problems. For my MacBook Pro, I use this forum:

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/item/OWC/MEPMU3ES/

I ordered the external power optionally for use at home and go on the road bus-powered. It's an empty envelope - just a hard drive of nu. They are more expensive than the stuff that Staples puts on sale every weekend, but are much more reliable. I ask the question. "What is my value data?"

An external CD/DVD drive will not mount on my iMac running the latest OSX update. I'm on my second CD drive (sorry Amazon). When I insert an audio CD, it is recognized. s not the question. Disk Util sees only after fresh USB connection. Profile of sys can see at any time. Back to zero does not correct the problem is it better that disconnect and reconnect. All OS updates have been applied. No other devices or software problems. Y at - it a tip. I have a new HD but cannot set up encryption with system preferences. After ten minutes, I get the following error message:

"There was an error preparing the Time Machine backup disk (disc name) - could not mount drive"

Apparently, I need to set up the HD in this way:

    • If you are using an external drive connected to your Mac, use disk utility to make sure that your backup disk is formatted in HFS + extended (journaled) and is the partition type GUID Partition Table (GPT)

It is not an option for the HFS + and so I used; OS x EXTENDED (journaled). GUID is ok.

Can someone let me know what I need to do.

    Thank you

Formatting: GUID Partition Table, OS X Extended (journaled).    (it is HFS +)

For TimeMachine at best to a partition only.

Do it again if necessary, then disconnect, reconnect, Start Time Machine preferences and "select disk".

  • Drive external DRIVE will not mount after resizing in Windows

    Hi all

I got a 1 TB external drive that I used for a while about 10 Windows and OSX (El Capitan). I had two partitions Configuration for use on every platform without any problems.

Then, I needed extra space on the Windows partition, so I think that, if I remember correctly, that I've resized using the disk management tool in Windows. I reduced the OSX volume and increased the size of the Windows volume. I can probably hear you all shout now.

Surprise, my volume OSX will now not mount when I run in El Capitan. It does not show in disk utility, and the only way to 'see' it is using diskutil:

  • external hard drive not mounting

Here it is the end of the year and one of my external hard drives (1 TB Iomega MacMini) decided to not mount on the desktop of my MBP 15 "

    (in early 2011).

I read a few posts on ways to remedy by making the Kext Utility application, reset the SMC, disk repair/first aid utility, using different cables/ports.

test another external hard drive (which is mounted using FireWire 800) etc...

When I look at the MBP in the system report found in 'about this Mac' sees the external hard drive, that I'm putting and yet this car is not editing.

The Iomega hard drive light flashes and there is power and the whirring of the drive, so that it seems the unit working on it of own but is no longer connection

    on my desk.

I have Time Machine on two external hard drives, but has a reader is slightly larger than the other, the information stored on both devices is slightly different.

So, if I can get access to the data from the Iomega hard drive and save it, then I'll be a happy camper and will update to another external drive.

For now, I hope some of you can provide advice to solve this problem.

I booked time at the Genius Bar, but nothing is open until next week.

Looking forward to responses and wish all a happy new year.

If so, try it on another Mac.  Don't rule out the possibility that the HARD disk is dead.

    Ciao.

    Hi Tony,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that you have a problem with the sound and I'll be happy to answer your query. I appreciate the efforts made in the patches that you tried. Let me ask you;

    • The question arises after upgrade to Windows 10?
    • Remember to make specific changes to the computer before the show?
    • What is the brand and model of the computer?

Check the status of the device in Device Manager. The yellow exclamation point provides an indication of the current status of the device and could mean that there is a conflict of resources of system, a driver issue, or any number of other things.

See the following steps to open the Device Manager.

    1. press the Windows key and X .

    2. click on Device Manager.

    3. spread sound, video and game controller.

Also, try the suggestions in the article below:
