  Create a recovery disk set before even considering the upgrade.

  If you are not yet accustomed to Windows 8, then give yourself a little time to get familiar with before committing to an upgrade to Windows 8.1.

  I prefer the upgrade of Windows 8.1, in particular the return of the Start button, it is not the same as the Start button was before Windows 8.

  Important factors for Windows 8.1 are available on the web support download portal for your PC.

  I would use a 2nd monitor with my HP all-in-one, but I can't figure out how to do this.  Our it guy says it can be done by using a VGA cord DMI but it does not work.  An another computer guy told me to get a USB cord with a graphics driver and technology at Best Buy told me that it is not possible to use a 2nd monitor with this all-in-one specific.  Please let me know if it is possible and how I would go to do.

  What is the product/model of your AIO machine? I have a lot of cases, you cannot use HDMI port to connect to a TV, because it's the HDMI IN port. You need USB - HDMI converter/adapter to connect to a TV (or monitor).

  and download the Portrait screen according to your particular system. Install the software which will allow you to adjust the brightness and contrast.

  The screen must bow to 30 degrees in the back about 5 degrees forward. It should smoothly with some resistance, but not much. Please see the Getting Started Guide HP TouchSmart computer, page 10, Chapter 3, "Setting up your computer" for more information.

  According to the card, your computer should come with a trial version of Office (Microsoft Office Trial). And Yes, the McAfee subscription is free for 30 days. These software specifications are fairly standard for the new computers these days - not many come with preinstalled Office full version, and antivirus subscriptions are usually only 30, 60 or 90 days.

  There are free alternatives to MS Office, and there is at least one very good free anti-virus program (Microsoft Security Essentials). You might want to look into some of these alternatives if you don't want to buy another software.

• HP ENVY Beats all-in-One: usb 3.0 ports do not work

  USB 2.0 hubs work but the 3.0 have never worked. Thumb drives and exterrnal readers do not appear in the file manager. No problem, indicated in the Device Manager.

  After searching around, I found new info: F2 at startup - BIOS - HP has a tool to check if different parts of the computer are working correctly. (Officially), I learned that the usb ports two 3.0 do not work (despite Device Manager, telling all the devices work properly). I received a "failure code" and a phone number to call. Technical support has confirmed that the failure code indicated the 3.0 ports do not work, and for $215 they can repair (price including shipping Fedex).

  I see if someone locally replace ports. Not sure that 3.0 ports are worth anywhere from $215. After all, the computer works just fine as it is. It's just annoying, they have never worked, that it took so long to finally find a solution, and that the warranty has expired.

  Hey all, my parents have a HP Envy 23 Touchsmart all-in-one PC. The model number is 23-d117a.

  He has a mechanical hard drive 2 TB in it, and I want to replace it with an SSD for Christmas. I have no qualms with opening on the back of the PC and on the hard drive Bay to do the physical installation, and I can understand how to clone the content of the hard drive on the whole quite easily.

  I just want to know if there will be problems with compatibility. I guess most of the time a hard drive is a hard drive and that it will work as long as it uses the correct file format, but I don't know if HP has put any kind of limits on the machine that prevents him from working.

  In addition, it is less important, but if anyone can recommend a good support to the smaller SSD fit into the 3.5 HARD drive enclosure and again the line upward with the connectors, I'd appreciate it.

As much as I know there is no restriction on the use of a Solid State Drive on this computer. In fact, I found this document for computer explaining the differences. FAQ of propulsion hybrid Seagate Solid State. As for the recommendation on the necessary adapter unfortunately I can not make a specific recommendation, but I believe that everything will work.   We bought a refurbished HP ENVY 23-d027c TouchSmart all-in - One desktop PC (model: H3Z81AAR).
  Months ago, all of a sudden stop. When we have attached to the power in this respect, there was no response. The green power led on the rear of the computer is still off, but the output of the power supply is normal 19.5V.

  When we removed the back cover, we found burned in a single chip around power. The chip is displayed as below:
