"ip Routing" command Switch SG300

What makes "ip Routing"? on the CLI on the SG300

When I do that, I see it allows ip transfer, but there is no mention of this in the manual of the CLI.  Just trying to figure out what I would use it for, and if I have to leave it on or turn it off.

I have several different SG300 switches in L3 mode, and they are set up in an environment multi - vlan...

Thank you

Scott

IP routing is mode 3. IP routing is a command to toggle for inter-sous communication. It is very useful for allowing.

  • Cannot create the IPv4 Interface on switch SG300-20 entries

It is a brand new switch, mode of L3, and I am connected to port 5. By default, all ports are VLAN1 (management) defined as the PVID and are defined in trunk mode. I can connect without problems, and nothing else is connected to the switch.

I did a master reset (via the web interface and button reset for 20 seconds) several times, and every time I try to assign an IP address to a VIRTUAL LAN on the page located at IP Configuration > GPI and Interfaces > Interface IPv4, I lose connectivity to the switch and it should be reset.

I make no changes to the VLAN1 (management) or the port I am logged in, but the problem persists. My switch is bad? Thanks in advance.

    Hello Terry,

It is done, your switch has several types of IP addresses,

-static IP address (you set this)

-dhcp (a server or router that sets)

-default (if neither of the other is defined) 192.168.1.254.

If the sg300 or 500 device has the default IP address and add another IP interface (on a virtual LAN or on a port), it will determine that static or dhcp is the management interface and the address 'by default' won't work any more.

    The workaround for this is:

When you configure layer 3 routing on a sg300 or switch 500, once the switch is in mode l3, you must:

1 - give each VLAN interface a static IP from vlan1.  This can be the same as the default 192.168.1.254, but I recommend to choose another address where you decide to add another switch in the future.

2 - before you set an IP address on the new VLAN, assign a port of access to the new vlan (so you can move your desktop to this vlan) management if necessary.  management of VLAN--> belonging to a vlan port.  Once you assign the ip address and your management interface goes far, move your pc to port on the new virtual local network, give it a static and reconnect to the new IP address.

    3. use the cable from the console and CLI to configure the interface vlan, as the console port does not go down, or lose connectivity when configuring a VLAN.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

  • How is the best way to connect the configuration of my router and switch?

I have a cable modem. connect to a switch, I have 2 computers connected to the switch. I also just connected my router wireless switch. That's the best configuration or I lose my firewall of the router in passing is not by ports directly above?

Most of the cable modems will give an IP address, so connect a switch to the modem and then connection of two computers and a router to the switch will usually result in one of these three devices, get an IP address (and internet connection), while the other two will not be.  (Notice that I guess a true "Modem" and not a "Modem/Router" device).  The correct configuration would be to connect your router to the modem (router gets the unique IP address).  The router can then process from the addresses IP what either side LAN of the router, then plug the devices you need (including switch) to the router's LAN ports.  This also ensures that all devices will be on the same subnet that your connection scheme to separate devices on the router wireless from the other two devices on the switch (here, assuming that you have a router/Modem device).

  • Need router and switches for simple network tips...

I have to get a new router and switch to an office with 9 computers, 1 printer, and a server.  They are all Mac computers. Two Mac computers are running Windows XP through Parrallels (not sure if it matters).  All computers have just need access to the Internet (through the router), access to the printer and 5 of them on the server.  A few more important details: the router will be located about a quarter of a mile away (where we could get a broadband Internet access) but will have a fiber optic cable running to the office, where will be the selector. In the building off site where the router, we would like to have a backup disk to send important files at the end of each day (or set up to do this automatically later).  The optical fiber has capacity of the card.  We want that the router must be connected only (wireless).  Any suggestion that router and switch combo would be enough?  Thank you!

You can use a RVS4400 router that has a gigabit capacity with 4 ports, connected to the gigabit switch.

You click on Expert in pse before trying to add layers?

Or it is possible that the image is 16-bit/channel.

In photoshop elements go to Image > Mode and click on 8-bit/channel and see if that makes a difference.

  • Switch-SG300-20-20 as L3 switch?

    Hello

In the company of a client, there is a ring of 3850 switches (L3) connected by optical fiber (the links are links L3 not trunks) and using OSPF for routing traffic between the different VLAN switches.

Now, the client wants to include a new switch between two switches exist (they are now linked) but using a Cisco SG300-20-20. My question is: can this work as an L3 switch? I have seen that you can configure static routes but I didn t find anything on routing protocols.

    Thank you!

Yes No ospf sorry just found post indicating 32 static not even tear apart on sg300, not really OSI 3, then you'll need something better, check again the sg500 who is mentioned in the post that only handles same ospf, a 2960xr switch supports ip ospf routes lite only about 200 dynamic and eigrp stub but its an option like layer switch not expensive 3

  • Need help setting up switch SG300-10

    Hello

    I bought a SG300-10 switch and configuration.

I have a problem to set up it causes that I'm not really used to networking.

what I set up at the moment is the VLAN.

VLAN 2 - step my router it for internet access

Vlan10 - is for my server and pc in my office

VLAN 40 - is for the wifi of comments.

I will use the mode switch layer 3 and I want to configure a DHCP server on the vlan 40 but I'm not very well how to do.  I activated the DHCP and created a pool of ip but how I assign on the vlan 40? and how to set up everything to go on the internet? If I followed the basic logic, I will put all my members of port of vlan 2, is that correct?

IM new in the field of networking

    Thank you

    Hi Justin,

Here is some basic information for the switch. With VLAN, it is tag VLAN and remove the brand VLAN. A package of UNTAG means in the package header, there is no VLAN ID. The switch will provide separate from the client connection based on the transfer of bridge table. Usually UNTAG VLAN is used for the client connection. A beacon packet contains the VLAN ID in the header. In general, tag packets is used between other network device. An access port is member of 1 VLAN that is not marked. A trunk (on small business product) port is a port that has 1 UNTAG VLAN (VLAN native) and has the ability to tag the VLAN extra.

Some examples of configuration CLI for tag and remove the brand VLAN. Keep in mind, VLAN 1 is the default VLAN, therefore, unless you make sure, VLAN 1 will default.

To create a VLAN 2 on your switch

    Configure the terminal

    database of VLAN

    VLAN 2,3,4

This will create the VLANs 2, 3 and 4

To configure an IP address to a VLAN

    Configure the terminal

    interface vlan 1

    IP 192.168.1.254 255.255.255.0

    interface vlan 2

    192.168.2.254 255.255.255.0

    interface vlan 3

    192.168.3.254 IP address 255.255.255.0

    interface vlan 4

    IP 192.168.4.254 255.255.255.0

Keep in mind, VLAN 1 must have a static IP address before you assign any other VLAN an IP address, or the switch will "lock".

To assign an access as a member of the VLAN 1 port

    Configure the terminal

    Article IG1 interface

    switchport mode access

To assign an access as a member of VLAN 2 port

    Configure the terminal

    interface hi2

    switchport mode access

    switchport access vlan 2

If you check the GUI you'll notice port 1 is "1u" and port 2 is "2u".

To create a trunk and assign some VLAN-

    Configure the terminal

    interface IG3

    switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan add 2

In the GUI, you will notice 3 port will be "1u, 2 t".

To configure a port to have a VLAN different other that 1 as it removes the brand on a chest.

    Configure the terminal

    interface IG4

    switchport mode trunk

    switchport vlan trunk native 2

switchport trunk allowed vlan add 3.4

    On the GUI, it will show '2u, 3 t, 4 t'

Now that we have fundamental port assignment of the road, you can work on DHCP and IP address management.

When the switch is in mode layer 3, if there is an IP address assigned to a VLAN, it is a switch virtual interface (SVI). The IP address of the service VLAN as default gateway which connects to this VLAN. The switch can associate the pool DHCP IP interface created on the switch-based layer 3.

Firstly, we must establish your first jump of the switch - the default gateway of the switch statement. If you have a router connected to the SG300 you must assign the SG300 default gateway, which is the IP address of the router.

    Configure the terminal

    Default IP gateway 192.168.1.1

Then you can concentrate on your DHCP scope. To configure a server DHCP table here is an example-

    network IP dhcp pool PRODUCTION

    address 192.168.2.1 low high 192.168.2.253 255.255.255.0

    Infinite rental

    default router 192.168.2.254

    dns-Server 8.8.8.8

This basic table DHCP said many things.

The name of the table is the PRODUCTION, this can be anything you want.

low address is the first IP address that is assignable in the pool while high address is the last

infinite lease means that had not expired DHCP lease

Router by default, it is the most important. It is the default gateway, that the switch will be assigned to the customer. This is very important if you want router between VLAN or upstream of the internet

DNS server, this allows to resolve the name instead of having to use IP only.

Now, if you connect to a computer that is enable DHCP where VLAN 2 is not marked, you should receive an IP address that is assigned by the switch on this computer. Notice that the pool is a number of address IP 2 VLAN. The definition of IP pool, this is how it will bind to one VLAN, by matching the subnet.

Now, once you have all the basic configuration complete, as Marty says, depending on the capacity of your router, it will need to need to support VLAN tagging, interface sub dot1q OR, as Marty has said, it would need static route to allow to your additional subnet route on the internet.

Hope this will help you get on your way.

  • Mask problem Switch SG300-28 30

I seem to have a problem using a 30 mask my SG300-28 switch L3 mode.  I want to isolate my router in one VLAN separated.  I had one VLAN created with a 24 mask and it seems to work.  I tried to change the mask on the switch and the router at 30.  There is no DHCP on this VLAN.  I cannot ping either side of the switch or router.  In the configuration screen to assign the IP address to the VLAN there you can use a mask from 8 to 30.  When I change the 30 to a 24, it works very well.

I use a configuration access port for VLAN router.

Using a VLAN and an access port is perfectly fine.  There should be nothing wrong with that.

I don't know if this switch supports, but you might be able to do a "no switchport" and then put the IP address on the interface.

  • Router or switch do DHCP?

    Hi all

We are implementing a large number of RV320/325 routers and switches of SG-300 customers.
Usually, we use 2 VLANS. the standard 1 for normal use and 1003 for the guests.

Now, since both can do DHCP and DNS I was wondering what you use and what best practice would be?

Is it interesting to DHCP (or DNS) on the switch instead of the router?

    Hey

Check the forums about these switches of sg, they have serious problems with dhcp does not not on some versions of same fw later

I would look at the RV instead as your dhcp if you do not have a windows or Linux system can do, and who would be more ideal

  • Problem with routing/circuits between SG300-10 and Dell Powerconnect 5224

    Hello

I just bought a SG300-10 switch and loaded new firmware 1.27 on it.  Configure my VLAN and trunks, but I have a weird problem that I can't seem to understand.  It may be something small, I'm missing, but no matter, I have been scratching at it all day and I kicked in the butt.  If anyone can point me in the right direction or maybe something that someone see in my config which is wrong, I can get the terminology/theory wrong, after all, I just spent my CCNA :)

    My configuration:

I have the SG300-10 as my switch and changed over to L3, so it may be my core of my small network.  On port 1, vlan 200 is configured as my unidentified native PVID and I put it to 210(LAN network) to trunk VLANs, 220 (management vlan) on the tag to the Dell powerconnect 5224 24port switch.  On port 1 of the Dell switch, I install as a trunk it as well with the same configuration (vlan native of PVID unidentified 200, 210 and 220 tag trunking).

I have installed virtual interfaces on the SG300 for each VLAN (vlan 210 = 192.168.210.1/24, vlan 220 = 192.168.220.1/24) and on the Dell, since this is a feature of L2, I changed the vlan 1 to 220 management and assign the IP 192.168.220.2/24.

Now, since the SG300 web interface, I ping IP management Dell (192.168.220.2/24)successfully and vice versa, can ping from Dell web interface to one of the IP of the bridge VLAN (210.1 & 220.1) successfully so that test, to me, looks like the Dell communicates with the SG300.)  I also have the default gateway of the Dell 192.168.220.1 printer value.

    Server IP: 192.168.220.10/24

    Workstation IP: 192.168.210.80/24

    Now the dilemma:

I have a server plugged into switch port Dell 2 (configured as 'hybrid' because there is no option to access, value 220 PVID, vlan, worth 220 Untagged) and from the server, I can ping IP management dell very well switch and can ping the IP of the gateway of great SG300 so.  On the SG300 switch, on port 2, I plugged in a workstation (configuration is in access mode, vlan 210 unidentified) who can not ping the server plugged into the dell switch.  The workstation, I can ping all the SG300 interfaces and also the IP management dell but I can't ping the server.

Any ideas anyone can provide is much appreciated!

    Edition of VLAN.

Lenell, thank you for the call tonight. It seems that we have found the problem. The SIN, although it is configured with a default gateway, the gateway that brings 0.0.0.0. We also checked the NAS works from the same subnet to connect but fails outside of the subnet. Conversely, we checked 2 computers have no problem to connect through the VLAN level 3.

I hope we got the right direction.

  • IP route command - key word 'name '.

    Hi all

I am trying to understand a static route on one of our router and found a keyword 'name' used on one of its static routes. I searched on cisco for this keyword (see LINK below), but I still don't understand.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/iOS/12_2/iproute/command/reference/1rfindp1.html#wp1054112

is the key word as a "Note" used in ACL or some sort of policy/road-map? I tried to dig deeper to help see the race | I have but not here to no output. a sample would be as below. Thanks in advance!

    IP route 172.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 10.0.0.1 name Seattle2Detroit

Sounds to me like it's just informative.

"If you have many static routes, you can specify the names that describe the purpose of each static route in order to more easily identify each of them."
