  2. If you are not logged in, sign in with your Apple ID.

  4. In the upper right corner of the iTunes window, click on applications.

  If you use iOS 10.x, you need the latest version of iTunes, 12.5.1. If you use iTunes 12.1.3, it makes me think that you have Windows XP or Vista. Is this the case?   Looks like I have to unlock my iPhone, access my main screen with the app, then connect the USB cable, and then it shows to the top in the list of devices, so problem solved.
