iPhoto library picture problem - what is their actual size, I can delete?

Hello

I'm trying to fix a friend's Mac airbook. It is insufficient on... out of 120 GB hard disk space, only 5 GB remaining who is causing trouble.

Now at some point, she has improved iPhoto to photos! On his computer, there are now two files... and it size differs depending on what software I use:

OmniDiskSweeper:

iPhoto Library 30.2 GB

Photo Library: 15.2

Daisydisk:

IPhoto library: 18, 7 GB

15.2 GB photo

---

total: 33.9

GrandPerspective:

iPhoto: 27.9

Photo library: 3.46

-

total: 31,36 GB

Finder (information)

IPhoto library: 30 GB

Photo Library: 15.7 GB

1. If the size is the iPhoto library? 30.2 GB, 30 GB, 27.9 GB or 18.7 GB? And what size it the photo library? If information can I trust?

2. can I remove one of the libraries?

I really need to make room for her and have tried everything... the real solution appears to tackle this problem of libraries of photos.

Help, please!

PSI don't know exactly how it migrated data. In any case I read much online and some people say that I can remove the old library, some people I can't say... or even if I do, saved on hard drive size won't matter.

beawre: this lady has no backup anywhere! (I know, crazy... but that's how she made things... I cannot now buy one for her, so I need to be careful before deleting anything)

If it does use iPhoto, you can delete the iPhoto library but you should check it first just in case

as for its size can in no way anyone without access to the computer can tell

as for space economy it will probably save a lot because it seems that she has a lot of deletions of his photo library or use iCloud photo library with optimized photos - immediately after the migration, two libraries share links to the originals and previews and deletion either saves very little space but that changes are made to one and not the other potential savings grow - my guess is that in his case, the savings will be a lot, but the only way to know is to archive the iPhoto library and delete it and restart

And be very careful about programs like OmniDiskSweeper - if you use it to remove pictures of each library it will destroy the library - you should NEVER directly remove anything on a Photos or iPhoto library - always use the program to remove things

  • attachment in Windows Mail pictures show much larger than actual size

Photos (not word files) attached to emails in Windows mail appear in the text of the e-mail message in my box of mailing or the Inbox, much larger than the actual size of the image.  I would like that they wait until I open the attachment in its appropriate program.

This is by design, and they are great because they need to be resized before sending.

The only way to not see the images once the text of the message to read all messages in plain text.

Should which library I use to remove old photos?  iPhoto or Photos?

If you migrated a library iPhoto to Photos and you want to release the storage, you should remove the pictures of these two libraries.

Related photos storage only comes out, after that the last linked file has been deleted.  If you do not use more of the iPhoto library, move it to a backup drive. Then simply delete the photos of your new photo library.

  • iPhoto and photos, delete the iPhoto library?

    Delete the iPhoto library?

If so, which file to remove - see PHOTO...

All this without losing any data.

    PS

I also use iCloud photo library - with my iOS and OS X devices - what is here?

    Thank you.

You will not lose data if you delete the iPhoto library - you don't have an it's one you delete

However is it discouraged because it will save very little space and you may want to or have need of the later - iPhoto library it is best to wait at least three months and when you remove it remember to archive everything first just in case where you want or need

Hi, I saved my photos on my passport, since I upgraded my phone and now I can't open the photos as it says that the version of the library is too old. I've uploaded my photos from my old laptop to my new office using my passport and still can't open. I tried to download the iPhoto library valuation tool but still does not open. Can someone please?

    Thank you

I tried to download the iPhoto library valuation tool but still does not open.

But install you and run the iPhoto Library upgrade?  Just the download is not enough.  You need to open the library in upgrader iPhoto library and let it prepare the library.  After installation, you will find the iPhoto Library upgrade in the "Utilities" folder in the "Applications" folder

  • Import iPhoto library in Bridge (from mac items)

Hi, I'm looking for a way to make my iPhoto library in Elements 8 for Mac so that I can browse them in Bridge. The only way I've seen do that here in this forum is ' in PSE 8.0 File > Open. In the side panel of the "Open" window, select Photos in press. Now in the menu that appears, choose iPhoto. Now select the photos you want to import and click Open. Your selection will open in PSE 8.0. "

I really don't want the items, I want to see my photos in Bridge. I really need to import them first in the elements?

Thanks in advance for any help in this.

    Firislander

Well enough, he must choose between iphoto and bridge for general use. You can't browse the iphoto with bridge library. If you use iphoto, it's your browser, no bridge. You can set the PES as external editor for iphoto and send photos from there, if you want to continue to use iPhoto as your main organizer.

I copy the library from the back to the top first before deleting anything, in case something goes wrong. You can choose which library to open hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch of iPhoto. In the menu that appears, select "Choose Library"

No. but you can give him the iphoto library and she can open it with Photos.

  • transfer problem from Leopard to Snow Leopard iPhoto library

I have a G4 Mini Leopard (10.5.8).  A year ago I accidentally moved the iPhoto library to a flash drive, instead of just copying what I intended, so after that I could only see my photos in iPhoto via the flash player.

Now, I have an Intel Mini under Snow Leopard.  I want to get my photos in iPhoto on this computer.  I found this answer of discussion on how to do it at this link: 11 iPhoto library: Lion to snow leopard

"- Together to connect the two Macs (network, fashion target firewire, etc.) or use an external hard disk formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder on the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready to move on."

I checked my flash player, and unfortunately it is in MS-DOS (FAT 32), not Mac OS Extended journaled format.  I'm afraid that if I put the i photo library it is about that in the pictures of the Mini Intel folder it will cause a BIG problem.  It will be? I suppose that if I tried to reformat the flash drive, I would lose the content above, right?

If so, the only other place I have my photos on a disk external bootable with OS 10.5.8 I was support of the mini G4 up to it on a regular basis with Time Machine.  Is there a way I can make use of this to get my pics on the Intel mini?  If so, how?  I don't really know how to use Time Machine, so give me the specific steps to be extremely important and very useful.

As a senior, I'm out of my depth here, so all the ideas/help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

As a start connect the last drive on the new Mac and drag the iPhoto library folder pcitures and launch iPhoto - it works - it could, if it test and you sholud b fine - if it's not then psot for help in restoring the backup TM

BTW - TM is not bootable backups

  • What is the relationship between the library of Photos and the iPhoto library?

I'm asking this question here because I can't find all the relevant information online.

I was dealing with imac a client recently who had a full boot drive. I noticed that his old iPhoto library used 126GB while she had already made the transition to the Photos. His photo library said that he was using a lot more (200 + if I remember correctly). I copied the iPhoto on an external drive library and deleted. Then, I opened the contents of the package and imported pictures remains in program pictures to make sure that I wasn't actually remove all of his memories. Once the work is finished, I was surprised to see that there are more than 6 GB of free space on his computer. What gives? Is there a relationship between the old iPhoto library and new photo library? If so, what is it? Is what I did without danger? I understand at the time that she will not be able to return to iPhoto. But what I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

No - they are totally separate - connection or relationship of any kind is not

or the other can be deleted without any effect on the other - but it won't save much space at all and is not recommended - which is exactly what you have seen- Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

  • Opening iPhoto library from a backup Time Machine in pictures

I'm trying to make sure I have backups of all the photos of my old iPhotos library (something that I can open the individual files in the Finder, not just a copy of "iPhoto" Library). I turned on my old iMac that is not used much more to make copies, and when I open 'Photos' my iPhoto library is not linked. When I hold "option" at the opening of the Photos app, I see these options:

I think I'm trying to access the old iPhoto library, so I click on it, but then I see this message:

I tried to go to disk utility to repair permissions, but the problem persists. My next thought was to open an old Time Machine backup and try and open the backup iPhoto library, but when I do that, I see this screen:

Any suggestions on how to access my old photos? What I am doing wrong?

    Thank you!

Are these old libraries or backups Time Machine? TM backups cannot be opened directly, you must first use TM to restore the disk

and where are these libraries? On the main drive or on an eternal drive? If on a DHM what format is and how is it connected?
