iPhoto Upgrade Catch 22

Friend running MacOS 10.7.5 wanted to update the operating system but stick with iPhoto. Thus, we have updated the Mavericks before realizing she had an 'old' version of iPhoto, version 9.1.5, which I thought that we could be updated later. (In hindsight, I should have updated iPhoto when she was still on 10.7.5, but we are here.)

The combination of the operating system 10.9.5 and iPhoto 9.1.5 reveals iPhoto as a non-accessible program. When I look at its App Store > purchases, it shows iPhoto as "installed" and the button is grayed. So, I thought no problem, I've kept all the time iPhoto updaters. However, when I launch the updater 9.3.1 9.2.1 or 9.4 or 9.4.3, they all report that "the version of iPhoto installed on the Mac must be updated through the App Store" - which now is not possible.

I also have the iLife 11 DVD, so I uninstalled his copy of iPhoto (the application and receiving files located in/var/db/receipts in Receipts) and installed from iLife 11.  Installed just fine. However, I find myself with an iPhoto not accessible, even though it is a little more recent version 9.2.1.  When I run one of accession (9.2.3, 9.3 etc.), it gives me the error message "iPhoto 9.1 or later is required to install this update." that is a false message, but probably something Apple has ceased to care.

As far as I know, there was never an update to iPhoto 9.6.1 launched by Apple - at that time, it has been updated via the App Store.

Any ideas on how I have one to get an executable version of iPhoto on the Mac Mavericks? (Yosemite is not the answer for other reasons that I won't). I Mavericks installed on an external bootable with an iPhoto that works (not exactly what version, but probably either 9.4.3 or 9.6.1). I know that I could copy the app, but also, what support files need to be copied.  Or is it possible to "trick" the current rise in labor?

Re: Iphoto's gone? I want to go back!

Go to the App Store and check out the shopping list. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it's there, then drag your existing iPhoto application (not the library, just the app) in the trash

Install the application on the App Store.

IPhoto is sometimes not visible on the shopping list. It may be hidden. See this article for more details on how to view it.

A question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto, the application and the iPhoto library are two different parts of the iPhoto program. So, reinstall the application should not affect the library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • Boring IPhoto upgrade

I just upgraded to macOS Sierra. Once the dust settled, I had a few notifications App Store for upgrades. All these improvements have been addressed except one. It will not address an annoying upgrade for "iPhoto". Despite the fact that I use 'Photos' and don't use iPhoto, this upgrade will not process and it won't go away. Does anyone else have this problem?

See if you can "hide" the notification...

    1. Open the Mac App Store.
    2. Choose Store > Sign In and enter your Apple ID and password.
    3. Click purchases.
    4. Right click on the item you want to hide and choose hide purchase. A prompt will ask you if you are sure you want to hide the element.
    5. Click on the Hide button buy.
  • IPhotos upgrade?

    Hello

Sorry if this question has been asked but I have not seen the same exact question...

I was in the middle of a gigantic project to sort on iPhotos (using iPhoto Library Manager Duplicate Annihilator) I was building up to 10 libraries in 25 different Macs since 1988. So since iPhotos crashes frequently in El Cap, I decide to go forward in the Photos. I've reproduced my libraries on backup disks to keep safe, before I also burn to disc as well. Although I prefer iPhotos navigation methods I will get used to the new view of browser in Photos.

1st quarter), which is the best method to create different Photo library so that I can continue with the process of sorting? I always want to keep 10 libraries separate btw

Q2) know if power Photos (new version of iPhoto Library Manager) works well enough to finish the job here? (it failed shortly after the Photos, that's why I stayed in iP?

  • iPhoto problem

    Hello!

Can someone tell me what to do how to redownload my iPhoto for my new mac? I bought my camera in the States and brought it here in the Philippines, but I've never used my iphoto even once. its says I need to upgrade. I've recently upgraded to El capitan 10.11.6 v my iphoto application cannot be opened and is not on my shopping list. I tried a few suggestions of fantastic people here but unfortunately is said cannot be upgraded cuz iphoto upgrade is not available in the philippines...

What version you have now? v9.6.1 iPhoto will run on El Capitan. If you have that or a previous version of v9 the iPhoto which has been previously updated on the App Store, then you must use the supplied Photos.app El Capitan. This can open and use an iPhoto library.

  • Missing photos after the operating system upgrade

If iCloud backup has not been activated at the time of the upgrade of the OS, are still recoverable photos from iPhoto, or they are gone forever?  My Mac is 2 years old, and I installed the OS to El Capitan.  Time Machine can be used to retrieve these photos?  I looked in the trash, but it's only the deleted photos.

Your photos have not been removed.

If you previously used iPhoto, upgrade to El Capitan installed a new app called Photos. When you first launch Photos, it asks if you want to migrate your iPhoto photo library. If you keep your library in the default location (users > username > pictures), pictures will be automatically finds the old iPhoto library. If you have moved t elsewhere, launch Photos while pressing the Option key, and then select the main iPhotos library file to migrate.

Migration is a slow process, so give it some time.

Belongs to the iPhoto Library always Time Machine backup?

Can restore to a different drive. You cannot migrate the library as part of a Time Machine backup or a disk Time Machine.

To migrate the iPhoto for photo library, drag the Photos icon in the Dock or launch Photos while holding down the button options. That will bring up a panel of library selector. Now select the iPhoto in restored library.

Photos cannot import libraries and merge them into existing libraries. He can't open a library to create a library of Photos converted.

Use PowerPhotos or the library to iCloud to merge; If necessary, launch Photos with Option key button and choose another library.
