iPhoto vs Photo

I give public slideshows and organize pictures taken from different cameras in iPhoto by giving each image a sequential name (e.g. Y001, Y002... Y099). When I transfer photo slideshows, slide shows get scrambled, because pictures wants to organize by date.

I use a Macbook Pro 2010, has been able to re - load iPhotos after automatically deleted Apple for my so-called 'upgrade' for Photos and slide shows are running smoothly again on my computer of 2010 when you use iPhotos. However, is now considering upgrading Mac computers, I'm afraid I'll lose iPhoto access, which will be a deal breaker. Does anyone know how to personalize pictures so that I can use an Apple Remote to scroll through slide shows of images based on the sequential naming of files (for example B0001, B0002 B0003)?

When I transfer photo slideshows, slide shows get scrambled, because pictures wants to organize by date.

If you transfer the file names with the numbers on the titles of the photos and create an album of them, you can sort this ambum by title.

Select the photos you want sorted, then create the slide show with "file > create slideshow. This slideshow will be sorted by the titles of the photos.

  • Understand migrations from iPhoto to Photos

After you migrate an iPhoto for photo library, the file extension of the iPhoto Library is changed in .migratedphotolibrary, and my understanding is that the two libraries share the same files through the use of "hard links". I've also read that if one of the libraries is published subsequently, what causes the link between versions of break. Is this true?

    If so, my questions are:

    (1) If hard links break, this means that storage on hard drive required by the two libraries is increased by the size of one of the libraries? If so, who would not take a little time if the booksellers were important, for example 100 GB or more?

    (2) immediately after the migration, what happens if one of the libraries I move to a different folder? Again break hard links? If so, same question as above.

No - change or deletion of a form of photos a library does not break the hard link and has no effect on the other library - they are totally independent

    1 - Yes

    2. Yes, I believe that to break hard links - travel for sure as a library to another volume break

Why move a? Usually simply leave you it where it is for several months until you are sure that you need is no longer and then archive and delete

  • Migrating from iPhoto to Photos

I just upgraded to El Capitan and want to start using the Photos, I have followed the procedures to migrate my old iPhoto library Photos with my library of Photos appointed to reside on another internal hard drive.  I tried several times, but shortly after the migration has started I got the message that there insufficient space disc - 10 GIG necessary.  The drive I'm migration towards had 240 available concerts.  I tried to reformat the drive and emptied of all other files so that its complete 250 concerts are available, but the process still hangs on to 8% with the same message - not enough disk space.  Can someone give me an idea as to what is the problem?

What is the format of the second internal drive where the library s iPhoto stored? How many free space your main internal drive there? What is your iPhoto library

And since there is no single move procedure and what you are doing is not working, it would be useful for you to actually share the procedure that you use

  • iPhoto or Photos?

Which one should I use? I have both on my computer. I use OS X El Capitan 10.11.3

Some of my photos (in each program) I can't edit. I click on edit and all the editing options are grayed out.

I have also a large NUMBER of photos that are not displayed. They are a white box with nothing in it.

Any idea what's going on? Where are my photos and what program should I be using? Does this mean photos are doubles and too much room in iPhoto and Photos?

A question at the same time help

1 you use is totally personal - support iPhoto has been interrupted for more than a year and one day he will stop working - for those who have only update every five years that is not a problem - if you install each update, it is - and Photos have more features than iPhoto and a stream of completely different work - so you fist need to make this decision

2 - once you take a decision on the software you want to use, then you will need to provide clear symptoms and doubts, including the version and exact context

    4. with regard to space - not - when you are migrating from iPhoto to Photos both libraries use hard towards the same original photos links and previews same so little extra space is used - Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

5 - and you're three updates behind - your first step should be updated to OS X 10.11.6, the current version of the operating system - which might or might not help things but is a good idea

  • Can see, but can not access, photos of iPhotos migrate Photos for Mac

    Hello

I transferred my my former (white) mac's iPhoto library to my new Macbook Air. I now see my iPhotos on Photos of Mac, but I'm unable to export or share (nothing happens if I click on these options), or even copy and paste. If I try to contact by e-mail or page that they do not appear on my photos via the Finder (but I can see more recent pictures no iPhotos initially). So basically I can see them, but can do something with them.

    Everyone knows about this problem?

If this does not occur, my only thought as to what this may be the case is due to an error in the migration? I have now installed Library upgrade on my new Mac (I think I was already use when migrating on the old Mac but don't remember the details), but so that he can see my iPhotos library, it is grayed out, so I can't try and apply the upgrade to the library via new Mac. So I'm stuck again. (if it's the solution, I'm not sure it's..)

Does anyone have any ideas what is the problem and how to fix? Where is possible it's just a failure of Apple/iphotos old photos have no Photos for Mac features?

    Thank you!!

    It certainly has the feature.

Have you tried to repair the library: back to the top and then press the command and option (or alt) keys all by launching Photos. The dialog that allows you to rebuild.

  • I just upgraded to El Capitan, which automatically "upgraded" iPhoto in Photos.  When I opened the Photos, my thumb nails is blurred with the exception of those that have been published in iPhoto.  This never happened in iPhoto.  How can I fix?

I just upgraded to El Capitan, which automatically "upgraded" iPhoto in Photos.  Now when I open the pictures, my thumb nails is blurred with the exception of those that have been previously published in iPhotos.  When you click on a fuzzy thumbnail to select it, the picture is very good. The photos were initially imported into iPhoto via the camera memory card to JPEG.  Is there a way to fix this?  I take lots of photos for a local spca and this will really slow me down in the decision-making process on the pictures to use.  I'm not a very tech savvy person any help with this is greatly appreciated!

If you pick a few and twist and turn then back it is this resolved? -If this is the case you can do in large groups for the problem photos

  • Use iPhoto or Photos for books?

Hello. I have more than a dozen iPhoto libraries, one for each year. What I do is make albums and then the books for my trips or a book each year. I'm back doing the books. Now with the Photos app (and faster, etc.), I wonder if I should migrate my iPhoto library Photos and allows to make albums and photo books? Is there any advantage in doing that? It would mean that I'll end up with several libraries of Photos, because it cannot allow me to combine several iPhoto Library in pictures.

I thought I would like a link libraries, instead of importing thousands of same photos in the new libraries of Photos. So the main question is whether or not there is an advantage in the migration of all my libraries of iPhoto in the libraries of Photos, or simply stick with iPhoto and make my books there. Thank you.

You can no longer print books in iPhoto in any case, because Apple has stopped the iPhoto book printing service.  If you want that your books printed by Apple, the new Photos.app as the only option now.  Photos Presto can print your iPhoto books, if export you it to a PDF file.

If you open an iPhoto photo library, the library migrated will not need a lot of extra storage, see this document: Photos saves disk space to share images with your iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support libraries

Long term, it will be best to take Photos for Mac, because iPhoto will be less intense.

I have just passed my iPhoto library photos on El Capitan (10.11.3) on my new iMac and have lost some pictures, some were 3 years old from the originals and thus lost location information, faces and events.

Would this be normal?  Can I retrieve the original info. ? or do I have to revisit each of my photos almost 5000 and identify the faces and places all over again?

    NO.

  • What is the best way to convert 37 000 photos in iPhoto in Photos

I have a file with 37 000 photos iPhoto. I wish I only know how to use an Apple S/W photos, that's why I want to convert my new photos have been involved in the Photos!

What are the best options to convert 37 000 photos in Photos?

Is there a limitation on the number of photos Photos can hold/grip? It will run in degraded mode?

Should I have / is it possible to have more than one library? If so, does that mean that I lose a search function, i.e. I should search in each library, if I want to find something...?

All comments and ideas would be instructive.

There is an option - migrate the iPhoto photo library - it is good to change first the iPhoto library - see these advice Notes on the migration of an iPhoto for iPhoto to Photos for Mac library

No limitation on PHotos photos - your disk space is limiting - large libraries do not slow down it (I have a 20 000 library and library one 80 000 photos (not ready to pay for the space to her iCloud))

You can have several libraries of Photos, but you cannot search through them (PowerPhotos can help with this if you want multiple libraries)

  • iPhoto and Photos

I use iPhoto. If I open the Photos app that I store in iPhoto automatically transfer to the app Photos still would continue to have access in iPhoto? I don't want to lose the use of iPhoto but am curious to see what there is in the Photos app. Thanks much for any help.

You can launch the Photos app with the hold Option key and select the option to create a new empty library.  Or you can drag a copy of your iPhoto on Photos.app icon library to migrate your iPhoto library to a library of Photos to test.  You won't double the amount of used space on your hard drive for Photos uses hard links to the masters photos in the iPhoto library for these photos present at the time of the migration.

When you connect iPhone or camera photo library can be the first to open so that you can put do not open by unchecking this box in the Photos with your iPhone connected:

A solution may be better applications to opening when iPhone is connected is to go into general iPhoto preferences panel (before creating a library of Photos) and set the Open with setting to "no application":

If you need to manually launch the application to use after plugging in your iPhone or your camera.

  • Loss of 30 GB of photos during the update to iphoto to photo

I had 89.6 GB of photos on my Mac Air. She updated iphoto to photo and now I only 60.2 GB of photos on my system. Is this normal? Is there anyway to recover the lost photos or even know what has been lost? I did a lot of backups of my pictures before that (so nothing is lost permanently), but I'm not sure which to restore. Any ideas?

Have you checked the number of Photos and videos in each library to see if it's the same or not?  In the picture library, open the window all Photos and check the number of items displayed in the upper right.

In iPhoto, click on the Photos icon in the initial and check the number in the upper right.  They match?

  • I hate iPhoto (or Photos).

I have an iPhone 6 s more, 16G, and often I have to delete things to do more memory space. (Everyone is to do at some point?)

Thus, Apple support suggests that remove some of the fat videos or photos from my phone.

The problem is that when I delete these pictures from my phone, photos are also removed from ALL my devices share my iCloud. I thought since I have download all my photos regularly on my iMac, they are downloaded safely on my iMac.

This morning I realized that many of my photos (on the Photos app on my iMac) this summer have disappeared. I can not find them.

This means that when I deleted the pictures from my phone, they have been removed also never from my iMac?

No idea except if you provide specific details

You posted in iPhoto for Mac forum

Maybe you have Photos for mac-what version of the OS and or iPhoto or pictures you have?

If yu have Photos what are your settings of iCloud on all devices?

If you have pictures and if you use iCloud library then it works exactly as it is documented - ICPL is a synchronization service and any changes made on any device (additions, deletions, or modifications) are performed on all the devices - for devices with limited memory you affect their use optimised photos - if you don't want any they you do not use ICPL but transfer sync your photos using MyPhotoStream , iTunes Sync or USB direct import

Do not program you hate and do not use the services that are not what you want and what ever program and service, you do not take the time to learn how it works - life will be much easier
