    Thanks in advance

Don't know why this link does not work... McAfee must have fired or their FAQ is under review.

The Development should work... and you can uninstall/remove the application after that you are through using it.

Here are a few suggestions of Stephen Boots, moderator of the MSE Forum about fake antivirus programs and prevention measures General malware:

Unfortunately, this type of malware attacks are difficult to follow because they fool you by letting them install. They usually come to an infected web site and usually an advertisement. You get a pop up of infection and click on it to close the window pop up that allows you to install infection.  They can also be provided in a "drive-by" mode without any action required by the user due to the system being unpatched, any security software is running.

When you encounter one of these fake virus pop - up during navigation, immediately do the following:

-Do not touch any window of browser to close or navigate away.
-Immediately, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc and bring up the Task Manager and end by force all instances of iexplore.exe, if you use Internet Explorer, or the executable for the browser you are using.
    -or-
-Go to start/stop and reboot the PC without touching the browser windows.
-If you used the Task Manager to close the browser instances, restart the machine.
-Then go in the Internet/Panel control Options and delete all temporary Internet files and cookies. If you use another browser, open the browser settings to do the same - to delete the local cached files and cookies.
-Perform a full scan with your anti-malware program.

The steps above should prevent infection taking root.

In addition to using an anti-malware program, the following recommendations will help to protect the PC from infection:

S ' ensure that the Windows Firewall is enabled.

S ' ensure that all critical updates or important, including service packs for the operating system and programs are installed from Microsoft Update (Windows Update).

-Make sure that Internet Explorer is version 8 or higher and put up-to-date with all the patches.

-In Internet Explorer 8 or 9, use the SmartScreen filter.

-Make sure that the Internet IE security settings are at least put to fire medium-high (default).

-Turn on the pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer.

-On Vista and Windows 7 make sure that thatUser Account Control (UAC) and doesn't work with elevated privileges.

-Make sure that automatic updates of Windows are set to notify at least, but the preferred setting is to download and install automatically. If you update manually, be sure to update as soon as possible after being informed of updates available.

-Make sure that installed applications, including Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Flash and Java are at their latest versions. Many vendors are regularly updated and fixes security vulnerabilities.

-Never click through links from unknown sources and be careful, even if they are from a "reliable".

-Do not open attachments in unsolicited e-mail.

    Good luck...

  • Why are there redundant for Microsoft Security Essentials download sites?

    Original title: Microsoft Security Essentials:

At the insistence of some other people on this community, I decided to start another thread for this exact same topic:

Why are there redundant for Microsoft Security Essentials download sites? I went on the first site in my search on the web:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=520

It looks pretty official to me, however, there is only one problem with the above site. Download options are way too vague for us lay people. After publication on the website of MS Community, I was quickly corrected on my ad which does not seem to be an idle thread and offered a link to download the instructions and frequently asked questions that did not work. Much later, I was offered another site to download with different language options and a more detailed description of download:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Security-Essentials-all-versions

Well, I have to ask the same question again, but in a different way: why society billions of dollars allows this kind of nonsense (multiple and various download sites on the web) occur under their name? Excuse me if I look a little frustrated on this problem, but I am!

Here's what the site was used initially. I still don't know which version to download for use on this site. The only distinction: "amd64" or "x 86". I don't know looking below that mean both.

    Version:
    Date of publication:

    4.4.0304.0

    10/11/2013

    Name of the file:
    File size:

    ENUS\amd64\MSEInstall.exe

    13.0 MB

    ENUS\x86\MSEInstall.exe

    10.6 MB

Download sites are for companies and technicians who need to deploy these.  Basically, the people who understand and who need these details.

For consumers (users of this community site), the printable page is simply microsoft.com/security_essentials

Here, you can easily get the version you need.

It appears if you try unconsciously to e-mail an extremely large file or a search using terms such as "Slow PC", "lazy", "email does not load" etc etc. Lesson 1-NEVER buy software that appears magically when you encounter problems. Once it is downloaded, paid for (usually Paypal-to-Safecart), you are prompted to "activate" - requiring remote access to your PC. Lesson 2 - all unknown, no software support of brand person should NEVER be allowed to remotely... even large companies should be permitted only access controlled, usually stated in the user agreement (which is vital, reading for all software ' demanding' external/remote access. If the folders or files are missing, renamed, moved, etc. and you contact support, you will be asked again for remote access. It cannot. Then, when it's obvious that you're in trouble, you will want to remove - they help you with if you allow them ACCESS remotely!... Again, you MUST refuse. You can ask for instructions by email, that they will promise to send - and never go there. You can ask to speak to a supervisor and is put on hold - forever. You can remove the software - but it will leave little visible and several hidden files and folders you can not see, even if you check the box "Show hidden folders and files". You can do a restore of the system - same problem, all is not lost. In a recent situation, after several requests for the removal by e-mail instructions and insurance that they cannot yet a system once the software is "deleted", noted an activity external access. The computer was immediately put off. Lesson 4 - you can't fix it yourself. • Only https links work. Never installed security software. Never messed with the settings of internet connection. Refreshed Firefox. No joy.

Firefox worked like a dream for as long as I got - until two days ago.
It suddenly stopped linking to http sites. Still works for https sites, however.
This problem does not exist in Safari (but I prefer Firefox!).

Some dig and can already tell you that:
    (1) no additional security software have been installed.
    (2) no changes were made to internet connection settings.
    (3) connection Wifi is strong and fully functional (as it has always been)

I followed the procedure of "Refresh" recommended on this forum - still no luck.
I am the only person working on the two devices listed below.
    They are not networked.
Only for personal use at home, or when they realize (the laptop).

    iMac: 7.1 model
OS X (Snow Leopard) 10.6.8 (the Mac is too old to support higher versions)
    Memory: 1 GB

Have the same problem on many newer MacBook Pro:
    OS X (Mountain Lion) 10.7.5
    Memory: 4 GB

Make a check of malware with several malware scanning of programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs, because each program detects a different malicious program.
All of these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before scanning.

Alternatively, you can write a check for an infection rootkit TDSSKiller.

  • Update for Microsoft Silverlight (KB2690729) security... cannot be installed

My comp. tried for months install this update on a daily basis.

    Hi James roach,.

    ·         You receive an error message or error code?

    ·         You are able to install other updates successfully?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot state to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    a. click Start, run.

    b. type msconfigand click OK.

    c. the system dialog Configuration utility appears.

    d. click on the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    e. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx

Method 4: Follow the steps in the article, and check if the problem persists.

You cannot install some programs or updates

    Cordially walterzg

    Two points:

    1. I do not recommend "suites" of the software, be it security software or another type.  You must choose the best of each type, regardless of who makes it. The company makes the best type prgram A doesn't mean that it's also the best type b.

    2. for an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (do not run more than one) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

You also need anti-spyware software (even if you run a program like Microsoft Security Essentials, with anti-spyware feature integrated into it). I recommend that you download and install MalwareBytes AntiMalware (freeware)

About a firewall, the built-in Windows Firewall is very good, and there is no reason to replace it by a third party.
