Is ff - update.exe to * safe to install?

Hello

I just received the following message: "you have chosen to open ff - update.exe... from: *.» You want to save this file. »

I have never seen this message before and can't find any reference to the exe file or address http. This address file and http is safe?

Kind regards

Ian

I wouldn't trust this file. The Firefox configuration file will have a name similar to "Firefox Setup 3.6.9.exe" and you should only download it directly from Mozilla. This site is not part of Mozilla.

  • Although installed firefox 10.0, I recently the updater.exe running application as soon as firefox starts. The problem disappears when closed with force updater.exe, then also firefox subsides. How to avoid this problem?

It consumes 30% of cpu and takes with him firefox, together consuming more than half of the CPU and was > 1 / 2 h.
It is a new phenomenon which slows down all other activities on my computer.

Sorry, updater.exe is not Firefox itself, something else began this process.

Firefox checks the updates the module as it is launched and checks the availability of an update for Firefox, about 5 minutes after the launch. or use a separate update process, they run the process firefox.exe.

plugin-container.exe is the only other process Firefox to clear or launch - a single instance of this process for each file from Web sites that use a Firefox plugin.

  • safe to install these updates?

read the news for the update KB2487426 says you must install this update before you install windows 7 service pack 1 (sp1), my pc has windows 7 (32 and 64 bit) version number of the family premium preinstalled V.6.1.7600 don't know anything about service pack 1, can someone tell me why microsoft would give me this update to install unless im not not running (sp1).   Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Update keeps telling me to install KB977165 even after 9 installs

    Hello

I tried to obtain this update to install on my computer laptop windows vista without success.  In the history of the update it says that the update has been installed successfully many times, however, whenever the restart of the computer, the windows update appears the taskbar saying me that an important update is available.  I tried the manual solutions posted in other threads that are running the microsoft fixit to determine if the computer is compatible (the tool says that my computer is compatible with the update) and then run the fixit tool to delete the update history and others and tried to manually install the update in safe mode and normal mode.  This update is vital or should I just put on the list of exclusions?  Any assistance would greatly be appreciated on this topic.

OK, first of all thanks for the quick responses.  I tried all the option listed in the post of MowGreen foregoing everything first without success.  Struck dead update continues to appear as needing to be installed.  Then, I went to the advice of the PA bear and at least now the update is not constantly ask to be installed.  The update continues to display in the window programs and features, such as an installed update, and it shows no longer update Windows it must be installed once more.  Thanks for the help!

It is up to you to verify the file Versions to ensure that the update is installed correctly, Feebler. Not too simple that it once was due to the Service Pack level possible that Vista can now be on. Simply because only such watch that installed upgrading does not necessarily mean that it has installed the 2 files containing the update. In plain language, the vulnerabilities that the update addresses can still be present on your computer.

The Service Pack level information is also on the system information page in Control Panel or, if you could click the start ORB, click Run, and then type
    winver
    Click OK or press ENTER.

The article on KB977165 shows the different Versions of the 2 files that should be present, according to which the Service Pack is installed.
The files are Ntoskrnl.exe and Ntkrnlpa.exe.  If no patches have been installed (you must apply patches, they are usually not updated), access to the services of the GDR branch which is planned for the concerned product of Vista.
If Vista is on SP1, Versions will start with 6.0.6001 . 18 xxx
Vista SP2 Versions will begin with 6.0.6002 . 18 xxx

Search for files which are in Windows\system32, then click on them, right click Properties, then click the Details tab to see which file Version they are.

  • What is happening with Windows Update you will need to install a new update to check for updates?

What is happening with Windows Update from 18/01/2016 When I find out Windows Update in Control Panel, he said, with a big yellow sign warning, "install new Windows Update software to check updates. You must first install an update from Windows Update. Your automatic update settings will not change. To install the updated Windows Update will automatically close and reopen. »

  • What's safe to install 9.2.1 iOS?

Fiasco from Apple launching v9 etc... I am extremely reluctant to update my iPad Air 9.2.1. Apple says it needs to address security issues, but they have said in the past. Versions 9 and 9.01, 9.1 done considerable damage - especially for the reception, storage and recovery email and I am NOT prepared to go through this again.

Although version 9.2 seemed to resolve key issues, it is far too early to know if he was sure, and we now 9.2.1.

You notice that the editor for the iPad yet do not format the initial characters of each paragraph (see this post). He is a current sign that things are not completely fixed.

Yes, Apple has lost my confidence, not without good reason.

Yes. It is completely safe to install. Updates are made to solve the problems.

  • Any chance that it will be safe to install?

Hello, I use a program called Unity that I use to make indie games on Vista (I know, I know, I have Win 7). The Unit recommended I have install this hotfix. I'm fine with that, but it is not fully tested. Microsoft recommends what to expect. Is it safe to install? OR should I just wait until she is released in a public update? I feel no problems ATM, but unity strongly recommends that you install it. So, what should I do?
OH, and if I do wait then someone can tell me when it would be officially released on Windows Update on past experience?
Thanks to all who can help. :)
EDIT: Oops wrong forum (sorry!), oh well this isn't really specific OS

You are in the right forum, Ninjasquirrel117. There is no specific forum update of Windows OS there is a drop down window that shows specific to the OS, even if threads we wish were certainly not there.

Read the symptoms of the hotfix KB section once more. There may be no problem with the consistency of the unit now, but further down the road the unit can start showing signs of the "inconsistent state. Single unit would know the answer to that.

I hesitated to recommed this patch you need to edit the registry, and then to turn it on. And I have no idea if how it would affect the overall safety of your system.
I don't know that the malware authors use IFEO to disable the security software and a few security people do the opposite, to create a framework for IFEO that blocks a malware executable file. The end of this blog shows how this is accomplished.

That being said, if you have the option to create an image of your system and save on a hard external USB or DVD drive, you will have a way to restore the computer if something untowards results.
