Is homegroup safe? File sharing

is it safe to let someone into your pc

Residential group has nothing to do with a person to use your computer.  Homegroup is further than you can leave both computers at home to share the same files (like a folder full of music, images or video).

  • Remote Desktop connection and file sharing

Hello, I have a technical question about file sharing.

I use a remote desktop connection to connect to the server of the company.  We are currently between the two groups of IT services (last guy retired, he will be missed!) In any case, I need to backup my desktop files locally and have 4 or 5 of these local desktop file files saved as a backup on the server.   I want to just my files desktop back mount easily on the server. And I don't know how / what to ask to do this. I just need to know what to ask.

    I'm having problems:

    1. I don't know how to configure a file to save its content on and through a secure server.

    2. There are two types of files that I am trying to backup my office.  The details are below.

    2. the first type of files are simple files of customer data, PDF files, word files, files is excellent. Thus, some records are filled with the updated forms and these files constantly increasing in number and size of the file.  A simple example of this type would be a Bill.  File grows in size and file number every week because the new files are always being added.

2B. I can't accurately describe the second type of file.  We use a program called TFP - when you open the program you load the specific customer file in a drop-down box.  Whenever you open the customer specific AMTS program saves any changes you made to this file and updates the customer file with a new date and then transfers the file from the client to a file from archive in C: drive. Basically, I want to save this file on the server of the company.

    3. can we make us safe so that data gets only shared a way?  I don't want people on the server to change my desktop files.

Feel free to ask any questions.   Thank you in advance.

  • Problem between Windows XP Home and Windows 7 Starter of file sharing

Hello, I have a problem with file sharing: my desktop computer running Windows XP Home Edition and my netbook runs Windows 7 Starter Edition.

On Windows XP, I shared a folder: Win 7 is able to open the directory and the files in the list, but there is no way I can open any file in the folder XP, nor that I can transfer the any of these files to my netbook.
All I get is an error "access denied."

The XP Workgroup is the same as the 7 home network, and the users have all the privileges on both computers.

Can you help me to sort out what is happening, please?
    Thank you.
    B.

As a first step, you have XP Home, which means that the 'Simple file sharing' is applied on this machine.  In addition, this means that any network connection on your XP Home of any another machine machine is forced to authenticate you as a user 'Guest', regardless of what a privilege that may be the real user.  In from here, it would seem that the 'Guest' user doesn't have privilege for the files or folders that you share.  To resolve this problem, you must change the access permissions to these files.

If you drag (move) files on your computer in your share folder, the origin on the file permissions will be maintained.  On the contrary, I would say that you copy the file to the shared folder by dragging with the right button of the mouse and select 'Copy' instead of 'move '.  A copied file will end with permissions for the destination folder that will be generally more suitable for sharing.

To the files and folders that are already in this folder, to change permissions, you must Access the 'Security' tab under the Properties screen.  In XP Home, this is possible if you log in as administrator in "safe" mode  To start your computer in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 during the startup key key), connect you as an administrator user, navigate to the file or the folder with problems of access, right-click on it, select 'Properties', select the 'Security' tab and set security such as 'everyone' (or 'guest') has the privilege of access you want.

I work for a financial company and we use our non-stop server.  Our server is just a XP computer a sharing folder.  Since yesterday, the server does not leave ANY computer access.  All sharing and security settings are defined very well, as they always were.  Any ideas?

    Hello

I doubt that anyone can have a clear idea without being particularly familiar with your system/network.

It can be one or more of the many configurations/parameters that went 'haywire '.

    Redo the sharing.

    --------------------

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted

Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

Open sharing Ports that are used on a local area network on the Internet is a Big safety hazard.

Laptop connects via the wireless router.

Both computers are in the same workgroup.

Two computers indicate that they are in the same network of 'work '.

The two computers 'see' each other.

Both computers have the same advanced sharing settings:

    • Turn on network discovery
    • Open file and printer sharing
    • Turn on public folder sharing
    • Streaming media is off
    • Use 128-bit encryption
    • Turn on password protected sharing

As I try to get the laptop to connect to a share on the desktop computer, the user accounts and passwords on the desktop include the user account and the password for the laptop. This is an administrator account.

There are actions on the desktop computer and these actions include the credentials of the user of the laptop computer with read/write access.

Sharing files between the two had worked, but then stopped. • Files shared/upgrade Win7

I have a local network, ORGANIZATIONAL unit called "GroupA".

All members of the GroupA can access the resources of the GroupA

GroupA has a shared folder hosted on Win7 Pro PC.  On all the following folders are defined:

MemberA, MemberB, MemberC and member access R/W access

Member and MemberF can visit r

MemberD is a user on the host computer.  MemberD has all rights of access as MemberA and MemberB MemberC

MemberD can open and edit the files in the folder; However, when MemberD makes a change to a file, it will NOT refresh in the folder.  MemberD added a file in the folder, but no one can see it.  MemberD can only see it.

MemberD can access a database in the shared folder and a record.  Nobody can see that added record.

One thing I noticed on the shared folder is a check mark on the top left of the folder icon.  That this has something to do with the question?  (Not sure if she did or not)  All rights and permissions are the same as other users.

Any ideas or suggestions?  Management of versions or libraries have something to do with its ability to change?

  • Can't see another computer for file sharing

    Hello
I have 2 computers in my house, a PC running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 and the other a XP Home Edition SP3 race, both connected to the Internet through a router TL-MR3420 and the adapter TP-LINK TL-WN822N. I have enabled the sharing of files on both computers and have no problem to display all of the files shared between each computer, so far.
Whenever I try to view another computer via "Network" or "homegroup" menu on 7 (or my network places on XP), I can't see my other computer which is supposed to be there. So far, I've tried a few attempts to analyze and resolve:
1 ping each other by IP - success.
2 ping each other by the name of the computer - has failed.
    3. try to access to "- and " run - failed with error 0 x 80070035 - path not found network. ".
4 run diagnose step above on Windows 7, she returned with a result: "the device or resource (my static IP XP) is not configured to accept connections on port 'The file sharing and printers (SMB)'."
5 turn off the firewall on the computers and router.
    6. ensure that necessary services for file sharing are active.
    7. the reactivation of the wireless connection on both computers.
8 change the name of the Working Group on both computers.
    9. run ipconfig/all on both computers.
10 install this fix on my XP.
Ipconfig, it seems my two computers showing the active DHCP on 'no', so I changed my network settings to "obtain an IP automatically" she turns to the 'yes' later. And "NetBIOS over TCP/IP", showing the different statutes on 7 that it is activated on XP it is disabled, even though I put it activated via the WINS tab on the XP network settings. Still do not solve the problem.
I don't know if it means something, but I share also some folders on my 7 to my Tablet ES File Explorer app, it works as it should (as long as I use static IP address), but if I try to connect my tablet to shared folders on XP, it always shows error message on either:
WiFi is turned off (it is)
SMB server is out of reach of the network
The ip address is not valid
    Blocked by the firewall
    SMB service is disabled
I guess that Wifi, IP and firewall are not the problem, and I don't know about SMB, it's stands for Samba / file Printer Sharing? He has already checked on computer network settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    I solved this.

I opened my XP, run these commands via cmd:
    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
    netsh winsock reset
Restart the computer and then change my connection of cable wireless lan then back to wireless again.

Windows 7 can not connect to the file sharing XP/2003server... I can remote the 2 OS, but I can't get into the share folder in both PC. as usual, if I want to access the shared folder on another computer, I can easily enter / / (IP address), but in windows 7, after I entered this command and I get the user name and the password (to connect to the file share folder), but after that show "wrong username and password. I don't think, because I can connect windows 7 to remotely 2 OS (with the same user name and password to enter the folder of file sharing), but I can not enter the share folder of file with the same user name and password. • WIN8 - password file sharing does not turn off

    all.

I just bought a win8.1 Tablet and have hit a problem with file sharing. Since yesterday the Tablet worked perfectly on my network and I transfer file between her and my PC without any problem. But now it will not work. I'm on a WiFi network.

When on my PC (Me - PC) attempts to connect to the Tablet (Me - Tab) via my computer/network it appears that error message from the device is inaccessible.

When on the Tablet, I go to my computer and then I can see Me - PC network. However when I try to connect it appears a connection window asks me to enter my username and password to connect. The PC doesn't have a user name or password to connect. I also noticed that this newspaper in the window trying to use a domain called "Me-tab."

My network doesn't use areas, all PC's are on a working group called simply at HOME.

The PC (Me - PC) is set up for the RECEPTION of working group.
The Tablet (Me - Tab) is put in place for the RECEPTION of working group

    On the two I put:
Network type is 'work' on the Win7 PC and 'private' in the Win8 tab
    Discovery - Network SUITE
    File sharing - SUITE
    Public folder sharing - WE
    a 128 bit encryption - SUITE
    Password sharing - OFF
Let windows manage the homegroup connections - SUITE

It seems to be stuck on thinking, it's in a field called his own device name, is there a way to reset completely all network settings? I said the tablet to "forget" the wifi connection, rebooted and reconnected several times without result.

Can someone offer advice before turn me this table

  • How to prevent file sharing automatic connection with the commune iCloud account?

I have access to my Mac remotely and always assumed that if I did not check the box pw to remember when asking username/pw I would always need to enter pw to access a remote volume.  This, of course, is the case usually except that I noticed that I have three computers (home, office, mobile) with the same user name and I can connect to the remote volume by simply entering the IP address of the target computer. I receive no request for pw.  This occurs despite the Macs with different user pw. I went to keychain in public services and did ' t see the pw of file sharing, so I guess they are in iCloud keychain.  All 3 Macs have the same username and the same iCloud account, and I have iCloud Keychain selected on all 3 Macs.  Potential problems would be if someone stole my cell phone when I signed to or if someone at work was playing with my computer after hours - they can then access my home computer (or vice versa). If it is stored in iCloud Keychain, so I don't see an obvious way to change.  So I disabled the option of trousseau in iCloud in system preferences on my laptop, not saved in keychain to my Mac and restarted; When I tried to access my home Mac, it helped to connect without my pw but I have noticed that at the top of the window, text says 'connected as [email protected]'- real username omitted here.  Is anyway to avoid this short of having each Mac journal on an account different iCloud (then would lose Sync calendars etc.).
