Is it legal to re - install windows 7 with a different installation disk?

I have a discussion with my boss about the weather or not it is legal to re - install the original OS a system provided with, if time would "Dell" or "HP" ect. using any installation disc, as long as the product key on the machine corresponds to the OS re - install the drive, for example by using a non - OEM drive to install win 7 on a HP PC and then using the product key on the machine to activate the operating system.

When you install it, you will be asked for the product key.  So yes, as long as this product key is not being used on any other computer - and you give the key to the customer to keep to themselves, then you can.

A friend of a friend ;) has a 5200 satellite. He hides a very bad virus on his book, witch, I couldn't remove after 2 hours of work, so I would like to install Windows in order to "clean up" the system. The problem is: it is just to visit here, and his recovery CD is in his hometown, so I don't have the recovery CD.

My question: can I use any other Windows XP CD - and then use the key, that I can find under the laptop? Must it be a 'home' - CD too, or work any CD - or ONLY a Toshiba Recovery CD won't work?

It is important for him - if that doesn't work he'll buy a new Windows XP in the next 2 days. Because he pays me a little bit for my work, I can just try and then try again the next day or so.

PS: How much is a new recovery-CD - ONLY the CD - when I buy a Toshiba dealer? I live in Germany.

    Thank you

For the installation of the OS, you can use what you want. If you don't have a recovery media, you can use the facilities of Microsoft CD. All the necessary drivers, tools and utilities that you can find on Toshiba supports the page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com support & downloads.

Installation of Windows Xp from a usb key involves a lot more than simply copy the files from one windows on a USB disk. It is much more difficult than don't imagine most (but not impossible). I did it a few times. Read the instructions on the two links below. The first link below is your best bet. You are not likely to do things immediately. It's ok, we are here...

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

    Hello

So it does not start from the disc, but when you get to the part where it asks me to choose a disk to install Windows, you do not see something here, is that correct? Go to the menu of the Bios (tap button "F2" at startup to access the Bios), then Advanced and check what you show for the SATA/operating Mode option.

I have a hp laptop that has pre installed windows 8 with the incorporated into BIOS product key. I downloaded the iso file 10 windows from the microsoft Web site.

the question is will be 10 windows will be activated with my product key embedded in the BIOS automatically or I will need 10 windows key.

Thanks for the answers in advance.

    Hello

No, 10 will not be activated as a free update if you try to install it on Windows 8. You can buy 10 to have activated.

You need Windows 8.1 to receive the upgrade FREE at 10.

  • 640 proBook G1: Activation of Windows 10 with a new installation

    Hello

We received a new batch of HP Probook 640 G1 with 8.1 installed and the company decided that they prefer to have systems to update to Windows 10.

We tried two different methods to do this, whenever we get 10 installed Windows activation is rejected because installation does not have a product key installed.  We know that the product key is stored in the BIOS, but we are not able to determine which is the key.  It is also our understanding that Windows should have been able to detect the product key.

Any suggestions on where we can get the product key in the BIOS or a method to have Windows see the correct key in the BIOS.

Also, I saw a suggestion for a tool called Belarc Advisor when we run this it shows (key: not activated) for the product key.

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for the replies.

It is with Windows, having satisfied Microsoft they provided a different installation media and everything works fine.

Construction, we started with was of 331 and they gave us 953.  Not sure why our distribution did not have the latest media available.

  • How can I add a previously installed windows on my mac pro installation

Hi guys, everything becomes to collect my newly bought mac pro 3.1 (used). I'm moving PC, but how do I add my existing installation of windows on my mac? The mac pro is 3.1 and has 2 x 500 GB disks in a raid 1 TB configuration. It's just a matter of plugging my windows disk (I'm guessing No.) or is it a bit more complex than that? Any help or advice will be appreciated and hope to give back as much help as I get that I'm learning. Thank you

You can install Windows on a Mac computer using Boot Camp Assistant or by using a Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox virtual machine natively. Refer to the instructions of Boot Camp located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/. OT If using a virtual machine see the instructions located on the Parallels, Fusion or VirtualBox sites.

In both cases you can not use a PC already existing installation of Windows. You need to reinstall Windows on your Mac.

  • Clean install Windows 7 with UEFI in dv6-7215nr

Hi, I would like to do a clean install of my HP dv6-7215nr Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x 64 envy laptop.

To this end, I have 3 questions to solve some installation issues.

    1. What are the steps to clean install Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise intact in UEFI mode?

I tried to install Win 7 after the pre-requisites following:

    (a) not partitioned 200 GB free space on the disk (only 1 physical disk)

    (b) already installed Windows 8 files with UEFI

    (c) UEFI enabled

    (d) heritage disabled startup

    (e) secure boot disabled

When I Boot in UEFI of CD/DVD, I can't switch to the Windows startup screen, it just hangs. What I am doing wrong? Is there any other prerequisites that I don't know?

I tried to install UEFI with Legacy enabled Boot, and I installed win7 but I can't disable Legacy new Boot because Win7 boot and I want only the UEFI Boot and need for inheritance disabled.

    2. where can I download drivers for Windows 7 for my laptop?

    I found this topic:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-operating-systems-and-software/HP-envy-DV6-7210ei-downgrade-fr...

    They point to these drivers

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us & dlc = in & lc = in & product = 5273735 & task = &

I think I could use these drivers, but I need just in case where. I guess they should work as the product names are roughly similar (with mine).

    3. is it possible to Secure Boot with Windows 7 SP1?

I have no research on this so far.

Thanks for the help that someone in the community can give to me, it is not important all the problems that I have set in I can still do research on questions 2 and 3 and help others with my research if I can do it before a response. Any info you can give me will be too great.

    Carlos

    (1) ' secure Boot' must be DISABLED and 'Legacy Support' must be ENABLED to install Windows 7 and many other older operating systems. The bootable media must support UEFI boot to install on a GPT-partitioned drive.

You let people with DISABILITIES 'Secure Boot' (and 'Legacy Support' ENABLED) once you have installed Windows 7. Changing these options causes Windows 7 to start is no longer.

    (2) the Windows 7 drivers on the CTO Entertainment Notebook PC drivers HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 page you referenced, will work on your computer.

    (3) it is not possible to install or use Windows 7 with "Secure Boot" ACTIVE.

    WARNING *.

HP does not recommend installing Windows 7 on a consumer computer comes with Windows 8, and it will support the installation of Windows 7. HP cannot provide the drivers for Windows 7 and the appropriate drivers are not available for the hardware in the computer. In addition, Windows 7 can not take in charge some of the hardware or software designed for the computer.

Make sure you create your media recovery HP or USB Flash Recovery discs before you edit or change anything.

You will need to DISABLE 'Secure Boot' and ENABLE 'Legacy Support' in the 'Configuration of the BIOS start-up secured' on the page parameters below, until you try to install Windows 7.

In addition, as the hard drive is probably partitioned as TPG, you must start the computer by using the "UEFI - CD/DVD drive" or "UEFI - USB Flash drive" options in the boot menu "F9". If "UEFI - CD/DVD drive", "UEFI - USB Flash drive" or something to that effect does not exist in the start menu, please post a screenshot and/or make startup listed options.

I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best installation experience. If you need Windows SP1, see 'How to install Windows 7 without the disc' to download and create your own disc of Windows 7 SP1. If the DVD does not start as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (can ask "Quick start" DISABLING in BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid active UEFI USB Flash drive if it is formatted in NTFS and may require only a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installeror WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, because it contains options for 'Plan of GPT partition for UEFI computer' and 'FAT32'.

If you have missing or unknown devices after installing the drivers, please post to the "Hardware ID" Device Manager (just the text string will do) to these devices as shown in the example below.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Please click the 'Thumbs Up' white LAURELS to show your appreciation
