Is it possible to buy the installation for Windows XP discs?

I currently have an old desktop computer that is really slow.  I would like to upgrade my desktop computer, but do not want Windows Vista or Windows 7.  The majority of the software I have on my computer is not compatible with these operating units.  I don't want to have to buy all new software, just because I wanted to speed up my computer.  I was wondering if it is possible to buy for Windows XP installation discs, or is it possible to spin discs in Windows XP that came with my old computer to a new computer?  I saw the post on the Windows XP installation from diskettes.  I don't have a floppy drive, CD will work very well.  I'm just trying to understand what my options are.  I contacted Dell and discovered that if I want to order a new office with Windows XP, I'll pay a little more for the computer.

See the Tech Geek response.

However, to directly answer your question, (a) well that installation of Windows XP CD are available for different sources on the Internet, it can be difficult to tell what you buy in fact and whether or not it is legitimate and (b) under Windows XP CD you have now, you may or may not be able to use them to install XP on a new computer.  In addition, there is no guarantee that there will be Windows XP drivers for all hardware on a brand new computer.

If by following the advice of Tech Geek, you cannot get your current running almost as well as he did when it was new, the best (and probably cheaper) option is to buy a new computer with Windows 7 installed.  Unless you use some small markets proprietary software applications, you may be surprised to learn that the software you have now, in fact, will work on Windows 7.

For example, you can get a Dell low end computer with a Core i3-2120 (3.3 GHz) processor and 4 GB of RAM with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit for $429.  If you really must use XP for your applications, you can switch to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (which supports XP Mode) for an additional $ 70.

Compare the above to the price of a 'full' (i.e., not upgrade) version of XP Home to $249.95 (Yes, you can get it cheaper if you are careful about what you buy).

Of course, if you find yourself either do a clean installation of Windows XP (whether on your existing computer) or another or if you buy a new Windows 7 computer, you need the keys to media and product installation for all of your applications.

Your computer may have a recovery partition which is accessible when you first start the computer (usually by typing the key F9 several times will begin the recovery process).

This will reinstall Windows back to the point when you received everything first, therfore backup important data files (Documents, photos, music, etc.) on external before starting. Be prepaired to reinstall all the software can also be purchased and installed (rounding up of multimedia installation and product key codes).

Why when I run the installer for Windows 8 consumer preview on my computer of Windows XP Home Edition he says: "this platform is not supported"?

You can see this message if you downloaded Windows 8 64-bit and XP 32-bit. To start the installation of Windows 8, you will need to restart and boot from the installation of Windows 8 media.

If you want to keep your current installation of Windows, you can install it on a separate partition and dual boot with the Windows 8 Preview of consumer. To install on a separate partition and dual boot, you must create and boot from the installation media.

    (1) first you will need a free partition on hard drive - if you do not you can shrink a partition and create a new one to install Windows 8 Preview of consumer on.
To reduce a partition and add a new one that you can use EASEUS Partition Master (free):
    http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm

    (2) to install on a separate disk, you can perform an installation DVD or USB key, then boot from it so you can choose the other partition. To download the ISO file and install media:
Download Windows 8 consumer Preview ISO:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/ISO
After you download the ISO file - use the Windows USB/DVD Download tool to install media:
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

    (3) installation on a separate partition for dual boot:
1 make a DVD or USB installation drive - to see the two options above.
    2. start from the DVD or USB install drive and click on install when prompted.
    3. during the installation process, when asked - choose a custom installation.
    4. Select a free partition on the hard disk to install Windows 8 Preview of consumer - this will install Windows 8 on a separate instead of your current Windows partition partition.
    5 continue with the installation.

    First of all please note:
1 consumer preview Windows 8 is a pre-release and will only work for a limited time - when it expires, you need to remove it.
    2. the overview of consumption is stable and has been tested, but it s not the finished product. Your PC may crash and you may lose important files. You should backup your data and you shouldn't test Windows 8 Preview of consumers on your primary home or business PC.
    3. If you install the preview of consumption on the Windows partition is currently installed, you cannot uninstall the preview of consumption. To return to your previous version of Windows, you will need to reinstall from the recovery or installation media supplied with your PC.
    4. in addition to dual boot, here are a few methods to install Windows 8 Preview of consumers without affecting your current installation of Windows:
    (A) remove your current hard drive and install the Preview of consumers on a spare drive.
    (B) install it on a spare computer.
    (C) install the Preview of consumer in a virtual machine.

  • I have an OEM of Windows Vista version on a dying computer. Can I buy the upgrade for Windows 8 and install it on the new PC, I'm building?

I have an OEM of Windows Vista version on a dying computer. Can I buy the upgrade for Windows 8 and install it on the new PC, I'm building? The upgrade, is published at the same time as I'm rebuilding my PC. I'm just looking to replace my OS. I need Vista.

    Hello

OEM license is tied to the first machine that is installed on the OEM license dies when this machine dies.

An OEM license is not transferable.

And you need a legal edition of Windows, enabled for upgrade.

There is no use, you buy a license upgrade of Windows 8 by itself as you have to upgrade anything of in the new computer, you build...

You can buy a license of Windows 8 when it comes out later this year.

  • Is it possible to get the files for windows vista, so I can reinstall my system?

    Hello

Im a user of linux on one machine HP Pavilion dv5-1095eo leisure. IM tired to restart my machine to run a windows OS, so is possible for me to get the files for windows vista. I got the windows key attached under the computer and I don't have any windows CD when I brought the machine.

    Hello:

You can do your own installation disc Vista too if you wish.

If you can read your 25-character product key MS, you can make your own Windows Vista installation disc. You just download the 3 files you need on the link below and read all the instructions to create a Setup bootable DVD disk using imageburn.

When I went to compile the ISO file, ImageBurn gave a message on a WIM file, file and ISO, and if I wanted to burn it in a different format.

I selected no, make the ISO file.

It was not so hard to do. I burned both the disk of 64-bit and 32-bit disk in case I ever need them.

I tested both of them (just before going forward with the actual facility) and they seem to work perfectly.

Apparently, when you enter the product key, he knows which version of Vista you have.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/software-OS/w/microsoft_os/3317.2-3-Microsoft-Windows-VI...

After you have successfully installed vista, you can download the drivers you need your PC support and driver page.

  • The installer for Windows Vista is wrong...

I was recently given an old "Lenovo Thinkpad SL500' with a failing HARD drive.  On the Palm of the laptop is Windows label that reads "Windows Vista Basic". I put in a disc of Windows Vista (x 86 version) and windows load, and to enter the serial number, it starts to install "Windows Vista Business" (perhaps the original owner updated the version of windows). At the end of installation, I go to activate and I like that it's the wrong version of windows for the serial number, hmmm... !  Think it should have been the version 64-bit (x 64), I perform the re - install, once again tell them he set up "Windows Vista Business" (64-bit version). Still, I get the same error message when you try to activate.

Time to cheat, I re - install again, but don't get me the serial number, which then gives the option to select the version of vista to install, this time I select Vista Basic (32-bit and 64-bit later). Windows installed twice and both times it fails to activate, this time with the error "Enter a different product for activation key", and Yes, I type in the serial number from the label (which windows it is was brought off the coast of the COA), still with no success.

Is it possible to say that Windows belongs to my serial number, or is it possible that the previous owner upgraded to a version of Windows 7 and changed the COA. ??

Vista OEM integrators of systems and DVD retail are the same both contain the files for the editions of Vista that you mentioned, and that is the PK that determines which edition is installed.

Unfortunately, there is no list to check a PK hand to see which edition it corresponds to the.

Lenovo are those who need to check with as to what is preinstalled on it.

Here is their information on it:

    Hello

As it is a Custom Build by Ironside was computers, you will need to communicate with them in a way to reinstall the operating system, they are required by Microsoft to provide the purchase

You don't say if the COA sticker on the computer case is retail or OEM System builders license.

If by chance, they installed a retail license:

The only legal Windows 7 download available is now Microsoft, as Microsoft has stopped DigitalRiver Windows 7 ISO downloads.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

But Microsoft only provides these downloads for Windows 7 keys to selling product at retail, not preinstalled OEM product keys.

Or you can also borrow the same exact retail edition DVD of Windows 7 and use your product key to reinstall.

    Or communicate with computers Ironside.

The error messages you provided are in fact rather generic, and as such, it is quite difficult to troubleshoot the problem only on that basis. I would like to ask you some questions to help me understand your problem better.

What version of LabVIEW are you using? Also, the VI (or screws) you want to compile into an executable running on its own LabVIEW?

Perhaps, it would be useful that you have downloaded your file VI and LabVIEW project (if you have one) as well as all other relevant records. If you do not have a LabVIEW project, please submit your application configuration settings.

Thank you and looking forward to your response.
