    Hi ykxx,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site!

    First of all, you can try to access the link, the link below and try to disable the Application Error Reporting tool

    Description of the Windows error reporting tool (Dw20.exe)

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/841477

    Method 2: you can try to create a new user account and check if you can solve the problem.

    To create a new user profile, follow the steps:

    1. open user accounts by clicking the Start button, click Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.

    2. click on Manage another account.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    3. click on create a new account.

    4 type the name that you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click create an account.

    If you are able to resolve the problem and then copy files to the new user account

    For more information, you can consult the following link to resolve the damaged user account:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

    Method 3: you can also check the following link and run a security scan online on your computer to remove the infections of viruses on the system.

  • Computer infected with Advanced Virus Remover (pavrm.exe).

    Computer of my granddaughter is infected with Advanced Virus Remover (pavrm.exe) and he turned everything. Disable you the antivirus (Cyberdefender), so I tried Ctrl + Alt + Delete, and the Bishop of tasks has been disabled as well. I then tried to go to the control panel to remove the program, and as soon as I clicked on it, the screen went to a blank desktop. I started in safe mode, but still an empty office. Then booted to a command line and managed to find the APR files in several places. Managed to remove a few files from the command line, but when I try to delete others I get "path not found." Many years since I used BACK, so I don't know if I'm in the commands incorrectly or if it's the virus. What should I try? Thanks for your help.

    You must use a second computer - like the one where you post now - go to the site of BleepingComputer, print out the instructions, download tools, etc. Because you can get into Safe Mode command prompt, you can copy the infected hard disk removal tools and use the CD command to navigate to the executable removal tool. This may or may not work for you.  Instead, it is best to start the computer with a rescue CD antivirus such as those offered by F-Secure, Avira, etc.. Or work with a Bart PE with plugins antivirus/antispyware. These "recovery CD" could get the machine in pretty good shape for you to enter Windows and to carry out analyses, etc..

    The easy solution and the best for a severely infected Windows machine must start with Linux Livecd like Knoppix, backup data on an external hard drive and doing a clean installation of Windows. If the girl is a young person, his Windows installation is probably not extremely complex and the clean install etc will be much less time than to use the methods described in paragraph 1. Of course, if you want to spend the time trying to clean instead, it is your choice.

    Standard WARNING: the advanced practice of the malware removal requires a certain level of computer skills. You know better. If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all shops are skilled at removing malware, and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will have to be properly installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before taking the machine into a shop. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • How can I disable/get rid of "dw20.exe?

    I can not at all on IE without getting the warning box saying that "dw20.exe" trying to access my computer.  I know what it is, but nothing I found so far was applicable to my situation, so I was not able to disable the thing!  In my case, if I click on 'allow' or 'do not allow', I get the same result.  I get an "Application error", then it stops IE, I get the warning box, again, etc.  She keeps just recycling.

    I have Vista Home Premium, and try to get rid of the problem, I upgraded to IE 9 today.  The problem occurred with older versions of IE, but I can't be positive that.  Very probably IE 8.  I REALLY do NOT have to take my computer shop to get rid of it, but I'm desperate!  Help!

    Thank you!

    Hello

    Follow steps 1 and 2

    Go to control panel, then go to administrative tools > services and then

    Scroll down the right panel, double-click "Microsoft Application Error Reporting". Select 'Disabled' in the 'Startup Type' window and click on 'OK '. Close the services window. This deletes the startup error and it prevent the execution.

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
    Data recovery, if/before you reinstall:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    See you soon.

  • Dw20.exe is not running under Windows 7

    I have a Toshiba Portege R830 with Windows 7 Professional installed since its purchase and never changed.

    After an automatic update of Windows, it began to show the following announcement at startup:

    Unsupported 16-bit application

    "\?? \C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\dw20.exe"cannot start or run due to incompatibility with the 64 bit version of Windows...

    Addittionally, at startup, I get several empty ads associated with Toshiba request that before updating the windows worked very well.

    Some of these ads will appear before logon and others after the connection.

    Is there a way to solve this annoying problem?

    Thank you

    Sebastian

    Hi Sebastian,.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums.

    Please provide detailed information about the issue. I apologise for the inconvenience, you have reached a good place and I'll be happy to help you.

    If I understand correctly you get C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v2.0.50727\dw20.exe cannot start due to incompatibility with the 64 bit version of Windows and you do invite you to Toshiba applications.

    This problem can be caused if the .NET Framework installation on the computer is damaged.

    You can get guests Toshiba applications following a software conflict.

    Method 1:

    I suggest you check out the link to start Repair tool Microsoft .net Framework to solve the problem.

    Microsoft .net Framework repair tool detects and trying to fix some problems frequently with Microsoft .NET Framework Setup or updates of Microsoft .NET Framework.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=30135

    Method 2:

    Put the computer to boot.

    Clean boot is one of the troubleshooting techniques that allows you to get the computer back to a State where you can perform diagnostic tests to refine the elements of the normal starting procedure that pose problems.

    See the article from the link below to perform a clean boot to windows 7.

    https://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135?WA=wsignin1.0

    Note: After you perform a clean boot troubleshooting, put the computer into normal mode.

    I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, we will be happy to help you.

  • Can I remove install.exe icons on the desktop without software uninstalling itself?

    I downloaded an .exe file driver and software and 3 updates on the HP site for my HP printer that I just installed. I installed all 4 downloads that I placed on my desk and the printer works fine.  My question now is to remove these .exe icons in my office without it uninstall the software or do I have to make a case for them and send them the file and keep them there?

    Of course, you can, this will not affect the printer. But I do not recommend to keep it somewhere as a backup to re - install.
