  • HP Photosmart C4280 all-in-one: what hp printers use ink 74 & 75? Buy new ink if my C4280 always says 'no cartridge detected ink?

This printer has worked well in the past. It is a bit old. I used one that has a fax for a while, but after I have does not need that 1, I put this 1 upward again... maybe a year ago? Recently, it does not recognize the ink as being installed. I think I bought cartridges 74 & 75 maybe 2 months ago so that they are fairly new. I looked at the help on this forum and tried from the back and then pull the plug out for 15 seconds and connect again... no help. I read how to remove the cartridges and where the cartridges go in... no help. I even unplugged from the rear and the plug for 20 minutes... no help.

I read somewhere on this forum without other printers use 74 & 75 ink (or was this one of them?). So if I had to buy new ink and is not the problem...?

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you!

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600: just installed new HP cartridges and ink colors are disabled!

It's very expensive 4 950 XL and 951 cartridges XL that I bought at Staples a couple of months. I noticed right after installation that bright red in my images were now feel like dull brown. I printed a few pages from the control panel of the printer test. Cyan and yellow seemed pretty accurate, but magenta was a deep purple, not the lightest color pink or pink, I expected. I think that something was wrong with the series production of this cartridge. I hope I can find my receipt, but if not, always wait that HP would replace a full cartridge that was flawed in manufacturing. My HP printer has an accuracy of colors great until about a week ago, but is now almost useless for the work at home that I want to do - for example custom greeting cards, cards, posters, etc.. I printed the test pages don't show any problems with the alignment of the head, and the stripes of color show no scratches. Just a magenta that is close to her correct hue, based on my long experience with color ink jet printers.

An HP service technician spent 1/2 hour on the phone with me yesterday, and we could not solve the problem. I had already worked through the steps that you referred me to. I have never known or heard of a problem like this, and had not the technology. When I printed the Diagnostic Page of print quality, I have absolutely perfect alignment and bars very clean black, gray and colors. Yellow and cyan looked quite right. Magenta was a deep, dark - purple not magenta I am familiar with years of work with inkjet printers. But it's printed cleanly, I started to believe that the new magenta cartridge, which had just been installed as well as 3 other XL cartridges, had somehow got filled with dark purple ink. However during our tests, asked me to remove the magenta cartridge and pick up some color from around the beak with a Q Tip. When I rubbed on the print paper, it was true magenta!

Other theories were: (1) that somehow the circuit board of the printer and print head did not and triggers the two nozzles magenta and cyan times reported magenta printing. That seems the most likely answer. 3 the theory was that the ink in the print head channels had a leak between inks cyan and magenta. It seems less likely, because there is no impurity in the print cyan, as well as the color printing was absolutely consistent over several test pages. The tech asked me to remove the print head Assembly and clean the area around the nozzles. That did not help.

In the end, I was offered a model of printer a HP refurbished more recent than mine. The price was very reasonable - much less than the cost of a printed circuit board or a feeling of head. He also used the same cartridges, so my XL series would be used later once provided with the new printer cartridges are consumed. I took that offer and hope to have a new printer from Tuesday. So I'm glad HP service.

  • HP Deskjet F370: Is it possible that a printer can t be detected by a computer because it has no cartridge or ink?

I have a 3-in-1 printer. I plugged it to my computer and my pc didn't have any reaction. However, there is no cartridge. I tried the scanner that doesn t require ink and it didn t work too. When I press the "scan" button, the power button started blinking and the ink light became red with an exclamation point. I was told that the scanner is still usable even without ink and cartridges.

I tried to install the HP software should detect my device and it cannot be detected, so I cannot continue with the installation.

    Hello!
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope that you are @Jen25,

I noticed your post on disorders that you encounter some scanning with your Deskjet F370 without ink cartridges and wanted to respond with my own suggestions. I would say that if the printer is showing flashing lights, such as: Burkina Faso / ink installed, then this puts the printer in an error state. If the printer is in an error state, it generally causes problems during analysis and installation of software until the hardware problem (the ink is replaced) is fixed.

In the end, my suggestion would be to replace the ink and try to analyze and to install the software again and it should work.

If you have trouble, let me know and I'll do my best to help.

  • printer will work if the color cartridges are ink

I have an Officejet 4620. My computer says all the ink cartridges are out of ink. I can always print in black. I need to replace the color cartridges?   The printer uses individual cartridges for red, blue and yellow cartridges. Color will be printed in blue and yellow only, so I guess there is little color left.

I usually do not need color copies and I have another Copier.

    Hello @Connsu,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I would like to help you today with your color cartridge application today. Because your printer uses four cartridges: HP 564 black, HP 564 Cyan, Magenta 564 HP and HP 564 yellow, if one or all of these color cartridges are exhausted replace them to continue using the printer. Your HP Officejets ink system is designed to print when have all ink cartridges. A little ink in each cartridge is used for maintenance and maintenance tasks completed by your printer to keep the print head system in your printer in good working order.

The print head is the part that the cartridges will fit. It controls the "reading" of the cartridges and put the ink on the page. If the printhead is not able to perform regular maintenance, due to depleted cartridges, there is a chance that the mechanism of the print head gets dirty. If the printhead is damaged in any way a whole unit replacement may be necessary. For more information about using ink please click here.

In the future, if you mainly print in black from the computer, you can set your printer driver to use black ink only. Normally when you print from your computer files will be sent to your printer as "images". If your printer "thinks" it prints an image file that ink color will be used to enrich the black ink. If you don't want that to happen, you can enable grayscale printing option.

    • How to set grayscale in Windows:
    1. Click on the Start menu
    2. Click on devices and printers
    3. Right click on your printer and select Printing Options
    4. Click on features or Advanced
    5. Select the Grayscale dropdown and replace Black Ink only
    6. Click apply and OK

If you ever want to print in color that you just open the document to print, click Properties in the print dialog box and change black ink only on OFF. This setting only will change to print one job and will return to black ink only for future jobs.

    • How to set levels of gray on Mac:
    1. In the software application, click print
    2. Select your printer
    3. Click Paper Type/quality menu
    4. Click the triangle next to Color Options
    5. In the color menu, select Grayscale or black & white
    6. Select the printing black only ink cartridge
    7. Click print

Please let me know if the information provided solves your color cartridge problems. I look forward to hear from you!

I understand that you were part of the troubleshooting already. Looks like you have dirty/defective ink cartridges or there is a problem with the distribution of ink system.

Please use this guide to try to resolve the problem:

If the problem persists and the cartridge is no longer under warranty, you can try the solution proposed in this video. Please use are at your own discretion.

  • Fill the cartridges of ink on deskjet 9800. Red light flashing, won't print. Always worked before.

Your Question: I haven't found new, original HP cartridges for my deskjet 9800 in any store. I so did my ink on deskjet 9800 as I did with success several times in the past. Two red lights keep flashing. It won't print. [Someone suggested that I need a new print head?] What should do? thanx

The coding strip only should be cleaned if there is a problem - it is very fragile and can be damaged, making the printer inoperable.  There is a post here that describes how do to clean the MICR band, but respect the warnings and don't do it unless necessary.  There is also a post here that shows how to solve one of the problems mishandling can cause.  Do not clean the Strip unless necessary.

The coding is the band one located just behind the stem of transport semi-claire. It aims to help the print cartridge faithfully keep track of its position as it moves along the stem of transport. Sometimes dust, ink or oil can accumulate on this strip and cause the following problems:

    • Prints "stairs" to the bottom of the left margin of the self-test page.
    • The margins left or right of the self-test are not properly placed.
    • Ink cartridges carriage slams on the left side of the printer.
    • Automatic test double-print or obscured shows the letters.
    • Defects to flow the length of a printed page (portrait orientation), or on the whole page (landscape orientation).
    • Printing stops and the lights of the Control Panel on the printer indicate an error.
    • Gaps appear in the printed text or images.
    • Slow printing

    CAUTION:

Do not clean the strip of coding for the following symptoms: media pick questions, paper jam tilt, ink cartridge, missing points or rejection white stripes with printing and smeared or streaked black ink.
